  • On July 27th, 2022, composer Michael Ching sat down with OPERA America's President/CEO Marc A. Scorca for a conversation about opera and their life.
    Michael Ching is a composer, conductor, and songwriter. His operas include the popular SPEED DATING TONIGHT! (over a hundred productions since 2013) and BUOSO’S GHOST, his sequel to Puccini’s GIANNI SCHICCHI. The double bill has been done recently at Michigan Opera Theatre, OperaDelaware and, next season, will play at Florida Grand Opera where he was on the music staff from 1981-85. Michael was Artistic Director of Opera Memphis from 1992-2010. Michael began his opera journey at Houston Opera Studio where he studied with Carlisle Floyd and Duke University where he studied with Robert Ward. Michael is composer-in-residence at Savannah Voice Festival and opera consultant at E C Schirmer Music Publishers. Michael is beginning work on an opera about the life of Pauline Viardot which will incorporate her compositions, music she sang, and original music.
