The fact that you are still wearing a Rolex while telling this story is the reason why Rolex treats you all the way they do. They know no matter how they treat you….you’ll still buy their watches…you’ll still go on those waiting lists.

The issue is people complain yet still remain Rolex fan boys. So basically these Rolex sales people proved they don't need to have good customer service. Plus they clearly read the situation right, no one was going to spend anything at the shop anyway so they have indirectly justified their arrogance sadly.

I have two steel Rolexes, I won’t buy another because of the way Rolex is towards its customers. Also the ADs are trash too. They’ll buy the expensive watches, wear them and then sell them off their wrist at market value. Once I saw my AD do that, I was done.

I was hired to help with sales in a jewelry store. When all the other associates ignores a women with torn jeans and motley crew shirt I asked her if there was anything in the case she wanted to see. She left with $200k worth of merchandise. Boarded the jet with her fiancée, the ceo of MTV at the time. You never know who your dealing with based on appearances.

I had the exact same experience at the New Bond Street Rolex store in London and believe me it emotionally scarred me for a long time. Not because it was Rolex, but just that I had never been treated this badly by any person or any store before. I left the store thinking what I had done to deserve this treatment and experience.

I visited my Rolex AD, and was treated like a tramp. I enquired about the process for adding my name to the waiting list, to be told the waiting list was full. So I spent time learning about watches, and decided to try on a speed master, which was quite a bit cheaper. The experience at the Omega couldn’t have been more different. Having tried on most of the watches, whilst drinking champagne, they then invited me to an evening event, to actually buy the watch I settled on. Treated like royalty, with a goody bag thrown in too. ( watch case, pen, key ring etc) which was from the event. Cocktails and canapés too. So I love my speedmaster, love seeing the movement, and have nothing to say but glad I didn’t buy into Rolex hype. Have enough spare change to buy a dive watch too, and I’ll start my journey at Omega.

The irony is that in the world of ultra luxury watches (the Audemars Piguet, the A. Lange, the Patek Philippe) they’re the little brother of brands. I too love Rolex watches (Batman forever) but I’ve had such great experiences at other stores. I had an incredible experience at Omega as well, so much so that my Speedmaster is my daily. I intend on buying a Grand Seiko in Japan as a reminder of my trip and I’m genuinely excited for it because of the service alone (and Japan of course is known for that). I don’t wanna say it but…Rolex is kind of shitty now.

I have never owned a Rolex. On my 30th anniversary of owning my business I wanted to commemorate and by a gold Rolex. My budget was 100,000. I pulled up in 300,000 Porsche, $5000 suit, was polite and professional, I look like a banker.
They dismissed me for 15 minutes, finally asked me what I was looking for and then offered me a list and a possibility of buying a 8000 watch I have no interest in. Worse is the sales person took almost an hour of my time making me feel like I had to prove I’m worthy. I said I have $100,000 to spend today. Was offered the chance and possibly of maybe getting an Airking.
I bought a yellow gold Yacht Master the next day from the grey market, still stickered, brand new for $4000 under msrp and no tax.
    AD’s can go bankrupt!

So why didn’t you buy the omega and the grand seiko despite their top notch customer service? It’s $$$ you will lose. On the other hand despite the snobbery if the Rolex SA offered you a steel submariner I bet you would have snapped it. Again it’s the $$$ you will gain. It is what it is and you sound a bit “entitled”. You can’t expect Rolex to give you something worth thousands more than you paid for and also customer service to match other brands that effectively loses half of its retail value the moment you walked out. Now if you put money where your mouth is and bought the omega and grand seiko then that’s a different matter.

I had a similar experience a few months back in Vegas. Walked up to a Rolex boutique while cruising around one of the hotels, and before I even got to the door a salesperson stepped out and immediately said, “We only have one watch for sale, a blue datejust (or something similar to that).” At that point, my girl and I were standing in front with him standing there as if he were waiting for a response and blocking the entrance. I said cool, not interested in that model, but would it be fine if we walked through to take a look at the floor models? After reiterating that they had nothing for sale, he moved aside and let us in but had us stand to the side for a few minutes before motioning us to go ahead and look around. Nobody helped us after that. Very uncomfortable experience overall. Yes, I’d still buy a Rolex as I’m a fanboy as well, but in most other cases I’d pass on a brand if given that treatment.

Form a phony friendship with the AD, visit the AD often and present small gifts, purchase other jewelry that you don't need or want, submit to questioning and a background investigation, and after all of that just HOPE you will be chosen from among many to buy a $20,000 stainless steel watch.

It is there despicable, low class sales tactics that makes me embarrassed to even own or wear them anymore. 40 years a collector and twenty years a member of NAWCC. Also sold and traded Rolex in Chicago through the 1980s.
Also completely agree about Omega which is the finest watch AND finest customer service there is. Look at all the creativity and artistry in Omega, This is seriously lacking in Rolex. Rolex just keep putting out the same watches year after year. They just keep raising their prices and demanding that you bow down and pay them. I have sold my Rolex watches years ago. Good riddance!

I’ve had that experience with Rolex ads before. I walked into a Rolex dealership with my Rolex date just SS. My wife had on a Seiko, two tone with jubilee bracelet, we were thinking of getting her one. The lady was nice to me, but as soon as she looked at my wife’s wrist, she said-That is Not a Rolex! And didn’t seem to give us the time of day, and her demeanor changed. With the whole room. My wife, looked at her with disgust and said, with a firm tone, I make over 60 k a year, what do you make? 8 bucks an hour? No? Probably commission. So why do you act like you own Rolex and the whole store? You ought to act more respectful and courteous to people who buy your products. As you know, the customer is always right, and pays your bills. And with that we walked out, and bought somewhere else. My wife was right, just being courteous goes a long way.

I bought a two-tone Datejust, a lady's Datejust, and a lady's President between 2001 and 2005, but the Rolex AD told me I needed "more current customer experience" and suggested some jewelry I should "consider" before asking to be put on the waiting list for the watch I was interested in purchasing. It is only too obvious why they get away with this; it's because of suckers like me. I hope I live long enough to see a market change where this behavior will backfire on them.

This exact same experience he just described. I own Tudors, Omegas, Rolex. The cost of a Rolex is about what I make in 20 days so although Im not a millionaire, I can afford to buy their products. The point is, they aren't interested. Rolex has a business model of Patek or AP but aren't ANYWHERE near the quality, price, or limited availability of those brands lol. Its kind of why Rolex prices are crashing right now. Lets be real, the Rolex Certified Pre-Owned program was their way of doing damage control. People are getting sick of it.

They said due to it being bust down and older it's not warranty anymore but they invited me to sit down. Took the watch in the back. Gave me a glass of champagne and chatted a bit. Then they brought the watch back out all tuned up and said we fixed it free of charge as a courtesy. I was pretty impressed they didn't charge me and were pretty hospitable. Watch running great now... and they didn't try to sell me anything and they were very nice to me. I walked out feeling like I'd be happy to go back there.

I met the sales rep Michael who showed me all their watches on display. They did not have any at the moment, except some 31mm for ladies. I got this call this week that he's getting me one of the watches I wanted. I went to the store literally every day during my stay in The Bahamas and they were always very polite and friendly. Lesson learned: A single bad experience shoud not deter you from visiting other Rolex AD stores.

Stand by your convictions. Who actually asks to be put on a list to be allowed to spend ones money? I mean, it's like being slapped around by a person, complaining, yet staying. Get yourself a timex homeboy.

Was a fan...Rolex is a joke, worst CS Experience. Going to Vacheron, experience at their Chicago boutique was incredible, from start to finish. Eventually got my VC Oversees little less than 6 months. BUT, really, the customer service experience is exceptional.

I went to an AD in Boca about 20 months ago, put my name down for an Explorer I and Sub (no date). I got a call about a year later but I wasn't interested in the Explorer I , I just felt *meh* and at the time it wasn't prudent to spend the money.
The bitch on the phone scolded me like a 1st grader saying "you know that this will show that you declined in your file and we have to pass the watch along now"... to which I said " yea, go ahead, I'm telling you I'm not interested anymore a year later".
Still waiting to hear about a Sub... which I will probably have the same response. Not that it isn't nice, but I'm just like F it at this point having 10K on my wrist only to be treated like I'm a bum.

Demand might be artificial but I guarantee you no matter what alternative watch you buy you will always feel like it was your second choice and desire a Rolex even more, the psychology rolex play is simply brilliant, Rolex are master manipulators and I love it, they literally have turned the customer experience around where you need to kiss there ass in order for them even consider selling one to you. This is the game they play and they wrote the rules,If you don’t like it then you don’t get a Rolex but will always desire one.

As I am from the UK, getting hold of a Rolex is not easy, especially in Europe, unless you buy on the grey market. What you have to remember is. Rolex doesn't need your business. Rolex only makes 1.700.000 pieces a year.
This is part of the mystique and branding. They don't want to sell to Joe Bag of Donuts. Arrogance it maybe but every Tom, Dick and Harry wants one and Rolex know this.
With regards to the Rolex shop assistant standing in your way, when you were entering the AD. Remember, the amount of robbery that is now taking place. This may have been an issue. In London, stockists of rolex have been robbed countless times, as have passers by who are wearing this timepiece.
All said and done. Are Rolex snobbs? Yes! but that's Rolex for you and they can afford to be.

Skipped Rolex. AD’s turning people off. Bought a grand seiko. Love it and I think it’s a better watch. I’m now starting to think it is a better brand also. If you buy a watch for status buy a Rolex. If you want an amazing watch buy a grand seiko.

I agree 100% This has really turned me off to Rolex. I own a few watches from the brand but I now am enjoying many other watches from Omega, Tudor, GS and even Seiko. They act like they are doing you a favor, which is ridiculous. There are many great watches out there that deserve our attention more than Rolex, honestly.

I bought a yacht master two tone “chocolate” at the boutique. I then placed my name on the “list” for a two tone sea dweller. I did get a text in which it was available but missed it an hour later because rather than receive a call I just got a text. Who can hear a beep vs a ring tone? My point is, they can’t have the decency of calling ? I mean its roughly a 20K watch after taxes! I still like ROLEX watches but I simply just went to a different boutique all together. Lol rather have someone else who has better customer service and earn the commission than someone who is snooty !

It’s that attitude of “I can get it thousands of dollars cheaper but let me go waste this guys time by asking a bunch of questions and run him around for free” that is why you got the treatment you got at Rolex. I’ve done similar things but it’s why retail has been suffering since the internet era. I’d go get all my questions answered by the idiot at the store and then go online to find the lowest price.
