    Love the double-feature!
Captain Clock is probably my favourite guitar playthrough from Roman. The official live video is an awesome performance, especially from Tatiana, even though the guitar sound is bad. There's also a lyric video, but you really need to see the outro section performed live by Tatiana.

I think Vlad is using a rack tom as a floor tom next to the kick. The other two are regular floors. Which is something I see a lot of drummers doing these days. It makes some sense because if it's mounted on hardware rather than sitting on legs you can repeat the position of it easier from setup to setup. The extra snare is a really tiny one cranked really high. It sounds amazing for what he uses it for. Those K Zildjian cymbals have a really satisfying tone to them. Since Vlad was originally a pianist I think playing split handed was a natural for him.
Tatiana's lyrics are always so good. Her process for writing them might be rushed and chaotic but it works.

    • @BemusingBill
      @BemusingBill  7 місяців тому +2

Thank you for the info my friend! I love the sound of those K cymbals. I've know a lot of drummers that use them and swear by them. Yeah, the small snare isn't technically a 'piccolo snare' but more like a 12 or 10 inch snare like you mentioned 'cranked up'. He like to use that for accents. I appreciate the clarification!
I don't know what Tati's songwriting process is. Every singer has their own way. I remember Joakim from Sabaton saying the music is written first then he he creates the song around it. I'm not sure what Tati does but it works! Her poetry is always beautiful. see you on the next! 🤘❤️🤘

    • @coder4liberty
      @coder4liberty 7 місяців тому +2

@@BemusingBill She procrastinates a lot and then at the very end she cranks it out after the music is mostly or completely done. Their song Wallflower is actually inspired by that. She's an introvert and so she was in her own world chilling, the guys were done with the music and she hadn't done any lyrics yet so they were kind of hounding her to get them done. So in the music video of that song they show up pounding on the door.
It's an amazing thing about her because for the most part the guys in the band don't do all the changing time signatures to fit her lyrics, she somehow lays the lyrics over all the time signature and key changes. I'm a drummer and have difficulty figuring out what they are doing sometimes.

Here for the Jinjer! I absolutely love the playthrough videos. It really helps appreciation of the full band compositions to start to understand what's going on with the individual instruments. It's complex stuff. Even more complex than is often apparent from listening to the album or watching the band videos. Somehow the complexity of the individual parts blends into a cohesive whole that sounds less complex than its parts.

    • @BemusingBill
      @BemusingBill  7 місяців тому +1

My brother from another mother! Yah, dude extremely complex stuff. Whether soft and subtle or vicious and unrelenting they put it all out there. Don't know if you follow Rick Beato on UA-cam but he should check out Jinjer. He's blown my musical mind with some incredibly but not obviously, complex pop music by really breaking it down with chords, key signatures, time signatures. The dude is incredible and I need to get him into Jinjer so his head can go spinning like mine. There will be Roman and Eugene playthroughs on the upcoming videos. can't wait, bro! 🤘🤘

@@BemusingBill Sweet dude! Yeah, I follow Rick Beato, he's way cool. He might do something on Jinjer, especially considering the view count on some of those Jinjer videos. I think he'd appreciate them. Lots there to analyze. I'm a Jinjer reaction video hobbyist. I never liked harsh vocals before Tati, and I never really watched reaction vids before Jinjer either. Now I start most mornings by searching UA-cam for Jinjer reactions. There are hundreds, and the algorithm is always bringing me something new (or old) and interesting. (I like yours a lot.) I particularly like musician analyses and vocal coach reactions. I'd be super interested in seeing what Beato thinks of Jinjer. I know he's a big Rush fan like me.

Roman is kind of the unsung hero of this band. He is actually very involved personally with the songwriting and arrangement process of Jinjer. Watching guitar playthroughs of his after Oksen (original guitarist) left the band is wild because you don't really have an idea about how much one guy is doing to fill up a LOT of space in the mix until you watch him play it... dude is up and down the neck of those guitars every song

Yo BB wussup! Great job as always! If memory serves, there are 13 bass playthrough vids with Eugene: Vortex, Noah, Ape, Perennial, Copycat, Colossus, On The Top, Wallflower, Beggars' Dance, Judgement & Punishment, Who Is Gonna Be the One, Retrospection, Home Back. There are also a bunch of "shorts," and some bass cam vids, like Dreadful Moments.
Switching to guitar for a moment, here's a fun "cover" video of Top 10 Jinjer Riffs:

Yeah, Roman is a whole other animal. When I watch his playthrough vids I'm always boggled, like "THAT'S what he's playing???" I think my favorite of his is Vortex, which reminds of Alex Lifeson on mushrooms (that's probably a thing lol). His parts are often so seemingly dissonant, especially when heard on their own. Tati often finds a surprising melody that pulls the whole thing together.

Lyrically, I take this song as expressing existential moral outrage at all the shit that goes on in the world & how it can cause us to feel alienated & disconnected. Even though Tatiana is avowedly atheist, she sort of addresses her outrage to god.
In the first half of the song, when the video depicts her dressed elegantly in a room, she's telling us that she was once optimistic about the world, seeing it as "an amusement park, rather colourful than dark". She changes costume partway through that section, signifying that she's realizing that the world is darker than she thought when she was younger. She switches to harsh vocals with the lyrics "Firе's burning all around us, And all we feel is cold", which I take to mean that we see the horrors happening around us, but are typically cold to it instead of outraged or moved to action. She changes to a grungier costume & moves into the band's space for the "dirty streets" section, wishing that she could show god what's happening here on earth, lamenting that god doesn't teach her what she should do, instead abandoning her to try to cope with it in whatever way she can...she finds that she has to disconnect herself from it just to cope ("Cold blood is coursing through my veins, 'Cause ice will never burn"). She ends the song wondering what it could mean to be happy & enjoy inner peace in a world like this, & wondering what we have to do to get god's help.
    Anyway, that's my interpretation.
    Mediator
    Stop!
    Go!
    Go on!
    My wish would be
    To see this sun shining
    To hear these birds singing
    Children laughing, hearts recovering
    My dream has always been
    Life has always seemed
    To be an amusement park
    Rather colourful than dark
I wanted a loser to win
    The thin never starving
The full not keeping it down
And needing nothing from no one
I wanted the poor to live in abundance
I wanted the rich to have someone
    Except for himself
To love and take care of
I wanted a loser to win
    The thin never starving
The full not keeping it down
And needing nothing from now on
    Firе's burning all around us
And all we feel is cold
    I want a neighbour, not a hater
And a hеad to go round
    From white, white snow
    But what to do now?
Wish I could catch god by the beard
And drag him to the dirty streets
To show him what was going on
The kind of curse we've waged upon
We're half way through to freedom
    The path is treacherous
The best way to make a kettle boil
Is to turn your back on this
You've stranded me with no decree
    No lessons given, only learned
Cold blood is coursing through my veins
    'Cause ice will never burn
    What is happiness?
    What is inner peace?
What do we have to do
To get a piece of you?

Thank you, my friend! An excellent interpretation in my opinion.
