@@charitys.3862 oh wow! Those serrated knives can be dangerous and definitely leave a ragged edge to a cut. Hope you are OK, and it wasn't too deep. There is a safe technique to Cutting cabbage and certain hard squashes. Start with the tip of knife in center of cabbage or squash, and bring knife down through half the vegetable. Turn and cut other side. Don't try cutting the head completely in half in one swipe of knife. Paula should have laid that head on it's cut flat side to continue her cutting, but she was cutting and it was rocking...made me cringe!!!! Hope that helps for next time!

My mama was born in raised in the Blue Ridge area of TN/GA. She never put onion in fried cabbage or dried squash. I added onion to my cabbage when I got married. Sometimes I'll make it to accompany Asian dishes and add some soy sauce and sesame seeds. It's delicious. And my daddy got me eating the core from the time I was little!

Glad to see someone else likes the core of the cabbage. My mom used to save them for me to have after school when I was a kid. I cook bacon, take it out and do the cabbage. At the end chop the bacon up and toss it into the cabbage. Raw cabbage has 5 carbs per cup. As a Type 2 it's the one thing I'll have as coleslaw. Thank goodness butter and fat are off the bad list now.

Cabbage is a good food if you're on Keto....but there is still 4.2 g of "natural" sugar, which, if not burned off in your body, will turn into fat. ONE CUP of shredded cabbage is 34 calories, 8.2g carbs (5.4g NET carbs after subtracting the 2.8g of fiber), AND 4.2g of SUGAR, which will end up turning into fat in your body if it isn't burned off for energy.

Seriously.....if you're going to cut each half of that cabbage into half, again, for heaven's sake, put the FLAT side on the bottom instead of cutting it where there is a rounded side that could cause a slip. ALWAYS try to have a flat side down to create a secure base. (Surprised that you have any fingers left after all of the years of cooking you've done. ) Perhaps you should have someone prep your ingredients so that you won't hurt yourself!

The constant movement makes it very difficult to focus on what you're doing, I watch you on my computer, not a large screen TV. The constant swaying actually makes me nauseous. The soft powdery look/lighting you're using blurs everything as well. It's a pretty look for photography but you and your house are already beautiful you don't need to soften and blur. OMgosh! Talk about childhood memories! My Grandma Faye had a huge garden, and grew lots of cabbages. Now she always had a big canister full of bacon grease right there next to the stove. But if my mom at home did not have bacon grease, she would fry up a half a pound of bacon and use that grease with the cabbage, and then sprinkle the crunchy bacon pieces on top. She put onion in hers, and butter. You are absolutely right that those crispy brown pieces on the bottom are the best. Pork chops, mashed potatoes, homemade bread and butter pickles, and a big plate of sliced tomatoes from the garden? YUM! Thank you for the great memory, Paula! Love you and your videos 🥰

@@stacey5925 Sounds yummy. Hey, how are you? Still doing good w the diet? I fall off the wagon here and there but, haven't gained any back and still loosing a lb here and there. Hope you're doing good!! 🙂 I've made cabbage soup and "fried " cabbage a lot in the last several months good diet fuel!

@@charitys.3862 Same here. But I always go back to watching the calories. Still walk every day too, so that helps when I slip a little! Getting ready to transfer my tomato and pepper plants that I grew indoors outside in my whiskey barrels. Watching the weather here, and it looks like our last frost was last week. So they say???? How are your raised garden beds coming along? 🍅🌶️🥬🥒

@@stacey5925 They're not going yet. I think it may be next year before we tackle the raised garden. But, i do have a few big pots I might put a few jalapeño plants and tomato plants in. But yeah supposed to be the 1st and last snow here last weekend. I sure hope so, I'm gearing up towards Spring mode now, I just hope it didn't affect our blueberry bushes, that were finally starting to do well, and our little peach tree. Guess nature's usually tougher than we think!

This looks delicious Paula. Speaking of Irish food, mashed potatoes with cabbage is a dish eaten in Ireland. It's called Colcannon. Enjoy St. Patrick's Day.

I love fried cabbage... My mom would cook bacon crumble it up and put to the side. She would shred cabbage and onion and caramelize it in the pan drippings. Then when all done she would mix in cooked egg noodles. She served this with sliced tomatoes and cornbread. Many wrinkle their nose when I say I'm making cabbage noodles and bacon but in my family it's heaven❤

We had cabbage and noodles growing up, minus the bacon. One of my favs. Mostly on Fridays during Lent, and with breaded, deep fried fish.

I do the same minus the onion lol AND my mom always kept the core and salted it to eat herself. I LOVE fried cabbage and sweet cornbread. LOL that’s where I get the calories, the cornbread.

A Tbsp of bacon grease has 115 calories, so 3 T. has 345 calories plus the butter you added has 105 calories per tbsp. so it's not quite calorie-free!
