Anakin Skywalker Should Have Saved Ben Solo (Film Fix: The Star Wars Sequels Part 2.5)

- What if Anakin Skywalker was in The Rise of Skywalker? What if Kylo Ren had been turned back to the light side, not by his father, but by his grandfather? Inspired by a comment left on my Film Fix: The Star Wars Sequels video, today we talk about how Anakin should have been the one to save Kylo Ren.

Yes yes it should’ve been Aniken to bring his grandson back from the dark because he’s been there he’s killed like Kylo is killed and they’re his grandfather comes from the forest ghost ether to save his grandson I love it it resonates so much in my being wow
Center row how could they miss such a thing how could these riders that are paid gazillions of dollars not come up with anything like that they could come up with nothing as you said thread there I can’t believe it I think Disney just thought it could just go on the way it was how they were doing it but no it missed the depth and the resignation with George Lucas isFamily the skywalkers and their saga
The more I see alternate TROS storylines, the more frustrated I get with the film we got.
I know right?
I enjoyed TROS in the moment when I saw it in the cinema. Hearing what we could have got from Trevorrow ruined it for me.
I wish that instead of yeeting his lightsaber into the sea, Ben had healed the crystal and made a white lightsaber.
I think it's better to keep the white Saber a unique thing for Ahsoka. Just my oppinion though.
I like that idea!
@@Azaghal1988 yeah, I hate how some others jedi's use purple light swords while it should be reserved for Mace Windo
Couldn't happen, healing already blooded crystal is too long process for film. For the film is better to throw it away and give him Anakin's lightsaber what actually happend.
I agree. I think it should've been leia's, han's, luke's and most importantly anakin's force ghost to turn kylo back to light.
All of them?
I'd rather have Han and Leia talk to Ben since they literally birthed him and it could mirror Han talking to Ben on StarKiller base.
@@CenterRow yes, maybe at first leia and han would talk to him, then anakin and luke. I think all of the should be there cuz they are very important to him.
@@kinolokki5953 Interesting!
I agree! The Rise of the Skywalker FAMILY. It takes all of them to bring Ben Solo back to the light. Plus, it fulfills what Luke said in Episode VIII with the "See you around, kid" (the implication being they'd have another conversation in IX which never really happened.)
This has always been what I wanted to happen. They kind of just forgot about him trying to be Vader after the force awakens. I also think if they brought back sidious they should have also had Anakin come to fight him in the end. It would have tied the saga way better and would be EPIC!
Exactly!
I definitely get why people wanted Anakin to be the one to redeem Ben but I think Han was perfect for it. You're right that Kylo was following Vader's footsteps in the first film but he stepped out of that shadow in The Last Jedi. Ben had no connection to Anakin besides stories he'd heard - presumably mostly stories fed to him by Snoke to try and manipulate him, which by this point in Episode 9 he had seen past. For his father, Han, to show up and offer up the paternal connection he'd so craved and to finally be validated by his father was so much more powerful than it would have been if it was his Grandad, who he'd never met before.
I can see that, I loved the emotion of the scene, I just wish it had made more sense than him imagining his Dad.
As cool and amazing this idea is...thematically, Han was the right choice.
Although I think originally it was Leia who was ment to talk Ben. But with the passing of Carrie Fisher, they didn't have another option.
The killing of Han had weighed heavily on Ben since he committed it. Even snoke mentioned it at the beginning of TLJ
At that point in RoS he was at his lowest point, of course he is going to think on his darkest act and see if he can ever be forgiven. Even reliving that final conversation. when he is forgiven, THAT is what brings Ben to the light.
It also plays in to rhymeing thing that star wars does. In the original trilogy, a father is redeemed by the love of his son. In the squeal, a son is redeemed by the forgiveness of his father. Also it keeps what Leia says to Han true.
"What makes you think i can do it?"
"Luke is a *Jedi* you're his *Father* "
If you change it to Anakin, you lose the power of the moment. However if you must, have it like this:
"Ben, come home."
"I...its too late for me. I don't know if I can, or should."
" Your Grandfather thought the same, but he found his way in the end. That was his true legacy, not some helmet and cape, but how he came back to his family."
A simple dialogue exchange that points out what Vader's legacy is ACTUALLY about, and still keeps the moment between father and son.
I love the father son emotion of the scene, I just wish it had made more sense than Ben completely imagining the conversion
“And then he cuts Hannibal Lecter in half”
Lol
And ya, with a real force ghost I wouldn't have had to question if it was a memory, or hallucination, or some new force thing that got Han to appear. I'm with ya, made me feel all the things, but didn't really make tons of sense.
Precisely!
great vid, spot on. makes so much more sense to see a force ghost and not an imaginary moment with han
Usually this idea feels out of nowhere to me, but it really worked here
Thanks!
It seems like a lot of people wanted an appearance from Anakin's force ghost in Episode XI. I have no idea why Abrams didn't make it happen. As you say, it would bring the saga full circle right back to the chosen one and the balance of the force.
I got tears in my eyes just hearing about this scenario in the video. I so wish we had got this in the movie :/
Thanks!
Thanks for the shoutout! I’m glad you liked my idea.
Thanks for the video idea!
Yes!! This would be amazing for all the reasons you gave! Maybe they'll do this with the rumored "fix" cut of Rise of Skywalker?
Thank you for your theory and i like this idea about Anakin that have saved Ben Solo.
My hatred for sand is greater than any jedi before me.
Is that why Obi-Wan hid your kid on a sand planet?
"Ben...why would you want to be like Vader? 'I' Didn't want to be Vader. Vader was everything I ever Hated. Becoming Him may have made me into the Powerful Being in the Galaxy, But it cost me everything and everyone I ever cared about. It wasn't worth it Ben. Not even for Hate's Sake, It was not worth it." - Anakin to Kylo my headcanon of Ep.9
THANK YOU. I been saying exactly this for so long.
Great minds!
A Hayden Christian cameo would have been incredible whatever they did with it. I would have nerded out in my seat
I saw another UA-cam video with this same idea right after the movie came out. I love this idea and wish it would get more attention
Wish I would have thought of it back then!
@@CenterRow it would have been soo awesome. Anakin could have explained how he was blinded by the Sith and was able to be redeemed. Anakin could have explained to Ben that if he really wanted to "finish what he started" that it would be to destroy the Sith, not join them. Seeing Hayden Christensen again would have been amazing
Exactly!
I remember thinking exactly this when I finished watching the movie in the theater.
Great minds!
🤯🤯🤯
I love it!
Thanks!
The path of hate is a dangerous track
You take one step and it's hard to turn back
It pulls you along
And though it seems wrong it feels right
Don't you see this path you're on leaves a permanent mark
It feels good at first, then it slowly turns dark
With each passing day
You're further astray from the light
Suddenly, you lose your way and lose the thread
Lose your cool, then lose your head
Every loss is harder to excuse
Then you'll see you'll lose your faith and lose your soul
'Til you lose complete control
And realize there's nothing left to lose...
No other context than this video. Like if you do know where it is from though or if you like how it fits here. (Yes it is a song)
You fixed starwars for me, thank you
Thanks for watching!
@@CenterRow you mean "thanks for the greatest complement ever." But that's ok, I know what you meant. 🤘😎
Yes, that is what I meant 😁
Ben with another gem!
Ryan! Thanks man!
This is Abbey btw :) your childhood best friend hahaha. You need to review The Star Wars Holiday Special!!!
Hey Abbey! Maybe I will!
What a great idea
Thanks
The closer look fellow needs to see this
Send it to him! Haha
The way Ben's redemption played out I think made sense. Anakin appearing to Ben Solo would have been great as well, like put them in a later scene or in part two if the movie were two parts (which it should've been).
Fair enough
It makes NO sense to have someone who Kylo has barely a fragment of a relationship with be the person who redeems Ben.
Usually I would agree if TFA hadn't spent so much time establishing his veneration for Vader.
I certainly see your point, but Kylo Ren’s journey in the story begins when he kills his father. I think it would make sense for Kylo’s character to end his journey in a mirrored situation.
I apologize for my harsh tone . . . . when I do that nothing is contributed to positive conversation :)
All good, I certainly see your point!
Yess!
I honestly probably would have been able to forgive the whole sequel series had Anakin brought kylo back
UGH THAT WOULD'VE BEEN SOOOOO GOOOOOOD!!!!!!
I know right?
I honestly thought that Leia used the last of her power to have Han come back and save Ben
I was saying this after the theater didn’t know if I was wrong or not.
yeah dude we all thought about that already
Although is sweet... I still thing he seeing his father is more impactful since you know... he kill him and being an product of his imagination makes it more powerful IMO.
But all forceghost should have appear in the last battle with palpatine thou.
It would have made a lot sence if anakin were the one to convince him i mean he was suppose to be the chossen one
Exactly
People who said the main star wars prequals should exist said. It was the success of Han Solo Novels that George got the idea to bring back star wars.
Yes Han Solo Already had a prequel. And it wreck coned. Maybe Solo didn't have same problem as prequals it had same problem of the sequels trilogy. With so many comics novels taking place after original trilogy completely recononed . Maybe it problems of prequal and sequel trilogies one group say doesn't need to exist other group already had expanded story
Goddammit, this whole disney trilogy was a big disappointment and missed opportunities. Anakin saving Kylo would've been awesome.
I'm currently working on my fan-edit of the sequel trilogy to make it better.
I wished Force Ghost Anakin was involved in the Sequel Trilogy.
Honestly having Han show up felt like a major insult. Han wasn’t a force ghost, he was just Ben easing his own conscience with his imagination. Han didn’t actually forgive him, Ben just decided he would have which is not, generally, how grief works. I don’t think any son responsible for killing his father would have an imaginary conversation with their dad just to make themself feel better. I didn’t feel like Ben was actually redeemed in that scene, I just felt like JJ was trying to tell the audience “no he’s cool now, Harrison Ford said so” without having a valid reason. At least give him the force ghost look and say “oh Han always had the force and learned this technique at some point” I could swallow that better than Ben having a conversation with himself.
Couldn't have put it better myself
Center Row thanks! I’m glad I found your channel, I’ve been binging your stuff lately lol
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Broooo yesssss
no one's ever really gone
The fact that you didn’t see this as being the way to go before bothers me but good job.
What can I say? I am a flawed man.
Center Row it just really bothers me that this movie and the ppl behind it squandered a chance to see the entire saga come together. Even something as simple as Force Ghosts Luke and Leia being accompanied by Force Ghost Anakin would have been more symbolic that this was meant to be the final one to tie it all together. It nearly brings me to tears.
I agree
Yay!
I even said this the day I walked out of the theater
Great, now i hate this movie even more. Too many missed opportunities.
I know right? Super frustrating.
@@CenterRow If they really wanted to, they couldve split it into two. That way the first half can be the treasure hunt story, and the other half would be about character development and a much more epic battle and more time to tie up loose ends. Sure, it wouldve broken the rule of 3, but at least it would be the story both jj abrams and disney wanted to tell without compromising quality.
@@CharlesMoss091 That could have been interesting.
A force ghost provides perfect closure and is, ultimately, lazy writing. Ben coming to terms with the MEMORY of his father, on the other hand, is infinitely more difficult and thus an infinitely more satisfying character arc overall.
Guys imagine instead of han anakin walks out and talks to kylo but it's like clone wars anakin but wiser and older and seems way more mature and he gives him a speech about his time as vader and we seem him in the afterlife or we see when obi wan taught him how to be a force ghost like in the comics and he redeems himself and gives kylo a puss in the right direction seeing w hiw much of a fanboy kylo was for vader having anakin come in and give him a shove in the right direction should have been top notch
I did think of this...
You smarter than me
@@CenterRow but you said it! You pretty much described exactly what I thought was the most logical thing to do with Kylo after TLJ. I imagined something like A Christmas Carol, but with Force ghosts :D
100%
These were legit my thoughts when I was in the uber home after seeing Rise of Skywalker. Calling it The Rise of Skywalker legit made no sense.
Great minds think alike?
@@CenterRow let's go with that😂
Pretty sure Kylo already knew that Vader was redeemed though. He more worshipped the idea of Vader rather than Anakin himself and, egged on by Snoke, was determined not to fall victim to the same weakness that destroyed Vader.
Did he though? Because he's literally praying to him in the TFA
I think Anakin should have turned up as a force ghost and physically handed his lightsaber to Rey in order for Rey to deflect palpatine's lightning. He says something to Palpatine before disappearing.
Interesting
Ok. Yeah. That’s stupid brilliant. How did nobody think of that. How did I not think of that.
Also Rey should clearly by Rey Solo not Rey Skywalker at the end. If she’s going to take anyone’s name
bruh this video just kind of makes me more mad about how bad TROS and the sequel trilogy in general was
Holy crap this would have been amazing. Oh well, good thing the sequels are getting thrown out and apparently remade!
Really? Since when?
I hope they dont. At least they would keep Force Awakens
They wffed up bad
I’m sorry. Ben has a much deeper connection with Han, his father, than with anakin, someone he’s never met. His Vader worship was a mask hiding his true unresolved issues with his father.
I made this vid on why anakin’s ghost couldn’t get through to Ben to intervene ua-cam.com/video/CB4KIKFHPtA/v-deo.html
The issue is that Han isn't actually able to visit Ben from the beyond, otherwise I'd completely agree
@@CenterRow - Thanks for responding. I love discussing Star Wars.
In my headcanon, Han actually _is_ a Force Ghost. I explain why here ua-cam.com/video/9X-DhM7ZL9g/v-deo.html @5:47 and@13:14
I was thinking that since the last jedi but oh no let's bring back ghost Han instead
I mean, it WAS nice to see Han again
1:59 Technically they were both deceived by sidious. 😅😔🤦♂️
Not a bad idea, but the most important thing for the whole trilogy, would be a unified vision, preferably the same writer.
Exactly! That was what Part 1 of my Star Wars Sequels Film Fix was about
@@CenterRow ok, maybe I should watch that.
@@CenterRow one way to fix the sequels would be like this:
2016
TFA was an incredible succes. Everyone loved it.
JJ, Rian, Colin and KK are now at a table discussing the next 2 movies.
KK: due to the succes of Force Awakens, we should now plan the story of episodes 8 and 9. They need to be epic, more original (she looks at JJ) and good. We have a lot of questions from TFA that need to be answered like Rey's parents, why is luke on the island, who is Snoke etc. And also we should leave some things unexplored and we could have Dave Filoni make an incredible animated show. Speaking of Filoni he would work with us. Good luck.
(Episode 8 Heir to the Jedi and episode 9 Duel of The Fates become the highest grossing movies ever, the new animated show is really popular and Filoni becomes vice president of LucasFilm. Rian and JJ both have a trilogy and Colin is working with Filoni for the last 3 seasons of Clone Wars ).
Some one needs to do this using DeepFake!
Please! Someone remake my video with deepfake!
Seriously, the movie is called the rise of SKYWALKER & is the end of the SKYWALKER saga. Why didn't Anakin play some role in this film??? Because people hated the prequels & Disney wanted to keep the prequels as far away from the ST as much as possible??
Darth Vader played an indirect role in this trilogy. Anakin's lightsaber has been a McGuffin for this trilogy. Why not let Anakin have some role in the finale?
At this point, I don't regard the sequel trilogy canon. It's just not as well-structured as everything else.
It's sad
As soon as Kylo was revealed to be Anakin’s grandchild in 7 I thought “they absolutely have to have a scene in one of these movies where Anakin’s ghost speaks to him”.
god damn it you made me hate "rise of missed opportunities" even more
A comment to appease the algorithm.
2nded
Bless you!
😂
6 fucking movies were made about anakin SKYWALKER, and in the last movie with the same name- we dont see anakin...? come on disney
It was the natural fix . But no . Not at all. Fuck that movie forever .
I haven't even seen the video and I already know I'm not gonna like what you say...
Still true?
Completely disagree. Kylo shouldn't have turned back to Ben Solo. And if you have to have the redemption arc, having Anakin do it is not very interesting in my opinion. It should have been Luke.
Well that was my original idea in my original video, so I'll take that as a win!
@@CenterRow yeah having it be Luke would just make the most sense. I can see a scene where Luke goes "I have taught you a lot, Ben. But I have one more lesson" and he can talk about Anakin and Luke apologizes to Ben for failing him. I don't know if that's what happened in your video or not but I think that just makes sense.
honestly, most fan fiction sucks. but Rise of Skywalker was so bad almost all these types of videos have presented more interesting material then what we saw in theaters. (sad Chewbacca noises)
It's very sad.
_"No one's ever truly gone"_ - Luke in _The Last Jedi_
_"Of course he is redeemable, Vader was a lot worse"_ - Rian's quote from an interview after the release of _The Last Jedi_ talking about Kylo's character.
Yes, Anakin should have appeared to Kylo. But _The Last Jedi_ established that Kylo is the only one who could decide his destiny, not Rey, not Anakin, him. Basically what we got in _The Rise Of Skywalker_ .
Fair point
It would have worked SO well. (Personally I still think Kylo should have stayed a villian and get his ass killed by Rei but you can't have everything.)
Looking back, I think him staying a villain would have been best. But if he were to be redeemed, this would be the way to do it.
@@CenterRow
Agreed.
There were so many better ways this movie could have gone lol, it's endlessly so fucking annoying!
It's quite irritating
