Great. Finally, I've found some top rank classical guitarists demoing Yamaha instruments.
Im going to bring my G225 on my 79 Yamaha XS1100 motorcycle up to Michigan to then ride my 95 Yamaha WRIII waverunner. This company rocks.

I have a Yamaha model G-231 II guitar which I enjoy playing very much: however, lately I have been trying to find some information about it and the Yamaha website has none. How does the G model relate to the current CG and GC models ? From the serial number I think my guitar was made in 1981. It has a solid cedar top and mahogany back and sides. Thank you.

Thanks for the comment. Great to hear you still have one of our G-231 II guitars! The G Series was developed in the late 1970s and earned a reputation for their clear and rich tone, and for their excellent playability. The equivalent range today would be our CG Series models which sit above our C and CS Series guitars. The GC Series is step further still (and includes our flagship GC-82 models).

Thank you very much for this information, but I have another question. What is the significance of the II. I have not had the pleasure of playing one of your GC series guitars, mainly because I have enjoyed this one so much, but I will try to find a dealer locally and see how it compares. Thanks again. Hi Earl, no problem! We improved the tuners for the Mk II version. The tonewoods and design weren't altered (so there wouldn't have been any significant tonal difference between the Mk I and Mk II).

@@YamahaMusicLondon I have this guitar, one of 3 classical and it is by far still the best. Love the sound so much and she stays in tune better than even my electrics. Thank you yamaha for the info. I will look up the equivalent in today's market and hope it is comparable. I want another just in case. I go to guitar center about once a month and try all the classical guitars and so far none are superior.
I bought a GC22S, great guitar but I use pro arte j45 and I think it is not at it’s best. What strings do you Play ?
Try savarez corum cristal or cantiga cristal, normal tension or hard..your choice. I had tried both and i love hard tension.
i bought a cheap yamaha steel string a couple of years ago, because it sounded good for the price. shortly after a year the glue started to break and the laminated top bent at the bridge. looking for a nice classical, but lost my trust entirely.
Sorry to hear that. I didn’t think much of them until recently. A couple years ago I got the Fg800. Then I found a FG3 and fG5. Sounded great. All of them doing well but the fg800 is not in a case. So I have to watch the humidity closely in the room and keep it stable.
Do these guitars have truss rod in the neck? I think no, why Yamaha can’t make these high end guitars with truss rod? I had saw so many great classical guitars had bad bowed neck for years playing, body is still like new, but action is too high, no way can adjust the neck.
I think it’s because the way classical guitars are build having a rod will lower the amount of resonance and vibration the strings will have,part of the sacrifice of not having a rod is to give the guitar more power.
They are very good classical guitars, but way overpriced. For half of that amount I can get a luthier handmade guitar
