Er..... Something I did when I did the rear axle on ours, wondered why the hell I couldn't align the rear end, until someone on m3cutters pointed it out to me😂
Everyone talking shit about the solid bushings and the stuff that came from the Schirmer subframe really need to look up who Team Schirmer is and what they do with BMW's. Yall are hilarious.
100%. I found solid subframe bushings to be very tolerable in regards to NVH as long as the differential was isolated with factory bushings (setup I had in my 320i e36 drift car) the sphericals on the trailing arms will be pretty rough but maybe Phil would be in favour of a oem bushing with a limiter plate design to allow deflection but limit severe deflection. Love this build btw.
The RTAB brackets are installed upside down. The RTAB inserts up into the chassis- with the way the bracket is currently installed it would mount below the chassis.
You should weld in some reinforcing material on the chassis brace near the crack. That thin minimum section will likely just fatigue and crack again if that minimum thickness isn't increased.
Such a pleasure to watch driftworks videos. Loving this build and Jay's commentary 👌 . I can't help but smile at Jay. Good work and can't wait to see the next one
Great work jay as usual, I went through the pain of stripping and re bushing the rear axle of my m3 a few years ago, I feel your pain, never mind the weight of it all, when trying to get it back on the car Team schirmer cars are amazing to watch round the ring, the cool black and gold colour schemes and they look so damned quick!
"My name is Jay. And welcome back to another weekend in the life of Phil's financial mistake(s)." Love this build! Isn't it too much work trying to finish this, your Mustang and other stuff all around the same time? :D
This diff is ready! Can't wait to hear your input on how it feels once on track/drift. I'm seriously like chomping at the bit to see what the progress is with the 10 into 1 header!
I’ve been watching this series since part 1, my apologies if you had already touched on it and I missed it, but what’s the deal with the “Schirmer” Z4M that’s in pieces? You mentioned you had to purchase it to get the M3 back.
Yeah I had to buy it to get my car back. I didn't want it. It's an ACS Z4M coupe in 2000 pieces with a rod out the side of the S54 & a few parts missing (even more now) It had been stripped ready for a full Schirmer track car build with an S65 of S85 I think. I need to get rid of it really, but it's a complicated pile of parts to sell easily.
Driftworks Copy that. Does sound like a headache, but hopefully it works out favorably for you in some way. Thanks for the steady content, it’s appreciated 👍
I was thinking yesterday when is the next video of the V10 coming and here it is. Really enjoyed that, I wish the video was longer as can't think of watching any other car channel that is as good. Excellent work as always Jay! Looking forward to watching the next video 👍
I remember seeing that Porsche for sale on Facebook a few weeks ago! What a mental looking thing, the list of custom work on it was huge. I think it was listed for £95k.
For the rear trailing arm bushings, full solid sucks even for a track car. You actually need some of the deflection. Check out Synchro design works. The use a factory spherical bushing in an aluminium housing. Perfect for road and track and easily rebuildable
I'll check them out. These are Schirmer parts though, so I don't think they'll be a problem unless they're too noisy. He's the guy behind all of the fastest BMWs on the Nordschliefe.
phil since you have a parts bimmer you should barra it lol .Viten is looking schmick jay is doing an outstanding job as usual still waiting for jay to dj at the shop craig could be in the background making toasted sangas the wrong way and you can give the glorified vw a lick and a tickle i'd subscribe to that. wait a minute i am subscribed by the way how is the v10 headers coming along can't wait to see them cheers
Ow yeah, a proper limited slip diff with ramps and clutches. The Gkn viscous was not a bad idea on paper from factory, I think they tried to eliminate that preload of the 2 wheels together with a proper lsd, making the back end snappier on wet if the pavement is bad. But that preload is what gives better traction on my opinion, because you don't have to make one wheel slip to buildup pressure in the diff and then viscous couple them back.
👍Changing to the Carbonetics multiplate lsd back in the day completely transformed the car. It got so much more traction & more importantly precision at speed when cornering & braking. The jury is still out as to whether it was the ultimate cause of eventually snapping 2 axles in the car. We'll see once it's back together.
Lads, gutted about the crack in the rear arm, i imagine your quite a way on now but if you havent fitted the frame and you want the two arms and the diff backplate doing get them over! I’ll do it for biscuits!
Regarding all solid bushings etc - I put full solid bushes and whatever needs to move is spherical in my E36 M3, and tbh I cant even feel a difference from stock. Granted, I havent driven it very hard yet. But I heard scary stories about vibrations and sounds. And I havent noticed a thing. Even the diff is solid mounted. As long as you have some interior in, which Phil has, I dont even think its that noticeable. Will see how it is when all my interior gets ripped out.
I watch loads of tech vids on UA-cam and on tv, most of the people doing it are tits. They may be good but are very hard work to watch. Jay is really good at not only doing the tech but presenting it. He’s great to watch
Why did you not change the inner upper control arm bushings to monoball? By the way there are also other options of having the upper control arm adjustable other than that weird bore, seems like that has to be check quite frequently as things can move under load...
@@JayDontGotThis how about a Replace the filthy diesel with a V10 M3... cant drink that much with tiny fuel lines.. plus all the kids will love you outside one stop when getting your daily biscuit rations 😂
That remains to be seen. I've only ever driven the V10 M3 with compromised suspension. The way we've engineered it this time around it should be uncompromised, and the only negative effect will be a little extra weight.
What bushes are going in the diff cover? Keeping the old ones? Also what’s the plans for the handbrake? Looks like you’ve not installed the disc backing plates and these would be needed to fit the oem handbrake shoes and the hold the retaining screws.
Yeah, it's just to run something for the standard ECU, possibly to do with the ABS. My memory fails me. The engine is run on a Pectel SQ6M12 with Cosworth Motorsport loom & Pi System dash.
