Very very cool Phil - this is going to epic. The manifold are going to have to be a work of art! “Not messing about with this one” - isn’t that now a new steering rack assembly, disposed dry sump pan and new 10:1 assembly and manifolds? You must love that car - one for life?
This project was already huge from the start, today it is becoming stratospheric! Nice job guys! Shoutout to the "quick" job done by Jay, this man got golden hands
I appreciate Uncle Craig's apprehension @12:45 - but having seen how the catchment sits through the kidney grills @29:30, I'm sold. It looks magnificent. Here's to hoping it not only works, but works well 👌
Peugeot 405 Mi16's and 309 Gti-16's had an 8 into 1 manifold with not alot of room between the bulkhead and engine. Great to see a nice bit of engineering like this
I'm not a professional fabricator and I recently made a 6-to-1 header for my S54B32 (fully welded, not slip fit like yours will have to be) and let me just say, it was a hell of a challenge! You guys are in for some serious fun on this one!
one of the best episodes so far. more and more progress is made quite rapidly now, or at least it seems like it. can't wait to see this thing in full swing again, although it'll be sad to not have new episodes. I'm sure there'll be new projects, plus we've still got the Lambo in WIP mode :D
Hey Phil and Jay, thank you for your absolutely entertaining build videos. So much love and effort for an old car, just brilliant. You guys make me love my ancient e46 328 even more with every video and i drive my car for 20 years now! I literally grew up with it. Even though it has an almost stock engine and i cannot do what you guys do with your cars. Keep up the amazing work. Hopefully you will finish it successfully!
Love this build, one day I hope to see her in the flesh ( or metal ) look forward to every episode during this strange time we are in. Keep it up Guys 👌
To an E46 M3 nut, this is the best reality TV. Ever. You casually walking past that CSL all the time and basically ignoring it is starting to drive me insane though 🤪
Loving this series guys! I had an E60 M5 and that motor is my all time favourite BMW power plant. Being stuck in Lockdown for the past few weeks it's been so good to have awesome and interesting videos to watch. I would love to drop an S85 into a 1M one day.
I'm kind of with the guy who mentioned the collector glowing red .... just before the belts and everything else that can melts 🤣! Love the vids though, you're keeping me sane in these weird times! (which is ironic 😉)
How’s the heat going to affect the accessories and belts on the front of the engine? I think the GT3 style radiators is a good idea and would look good with the e46 front bumper!
Mental project! Love it! :D Can`t wait to see the finished result of the headers :) I know you maybe want to see those pretty tig welds and a shiny manifold in the end. But I would recommend coating it and doing some work to keep heat away from everything around them headers. As I know this car will be used and lot`s of trackdays will full throttle V10 sound for days :) hehe! Just keep up the fantastic work :)
Well if you're gonna run exhaust pipes through you ,,imaginary ac compressor " you can run a electric ac compressor in cabin. Bunch of hybrids have them so they are like 100$ on Ebay .
I would think some form of exhaust coating will be needed on the headers. Cerakote would look and preform well because no one likes header wrap. The 10-1 going into a titanium exhaust would be icing on the sound cake!!
Phil that engine bay needs to be black and orange so orange cam covers and pipe work it’s makes sense in so many ways and advertises your company colours like nothing else when you show this car off !!!!!! Jay convince the boss it makes sense 🤣
I know you know what you’re doing but don’t forget you could used a stepped core rad, if you’re not using something off the shelf of course, something which is really thick at the bottom and goes into the lower centre grille of the bumper like an intercooler would.
Could you use a twin duct CSL bumper, using the two holes for small heat exchangers and then use the PSDesigns n/s/f main beam delete induction hole for the engine air?
It's on Schirmer Nitron suspension. I just need to check damper stroke at my own ride height as I've been on the side of the road with a snapped rear Nitron damper in this car before.
Oof, a snapped damper? How does that happen? I've heard of people's rear trailing arms hitting things they shouldn't on low cars, but never a snapped damper. Did the rod snap or was it part of the housing?
Doesn’t look like much room up front there, probably best to bite the bullet and make it mid engined 😉 You gonna do the maths to get them an equal length, tuned for a certain powerband? If they’re not equal the pulses might clash and make it sound/run a bit rough.
Haha. Yes they will be equal length & I believe SJ design will be tuning the length as best as possible (as the back cylinders are quite long even with a direct route. )
Driftworks yeah the front cylinder ones are probably gonna have to swoop around a bit to get the length to match up, it’ll be interesting to weld that’s for sure 😂
Hopefully you can let your 3D scanning friend also work out the exhaust after the collector just to see if there's any possible way to retain A/C. That would make this car perfect.
Driftworks zircotec makes a great plasma sprayed thermal barrier coating that is similar to what we use on jet engine components. Super high quality and great for thermal management.
"Jay and Uncle Craig Show" needs to happen.
👍
Would be like Rod Hull and Emu wouldn't it! :)
Quick, everyone act surprised!
*Oh no Phil. I can't believe you're actually doing it!*
Can't wait to hear this thing. :D
😂
I can imagine now, that exhaust glowing red behind the grill when the engine is at WOT. 👀👀
😄Now that would be a shot to try and get.
The shuttle edit 😂🚀 love it. Cant wait to see how this turns out
😄Cheers
"Sucking in all that lovely cool exhaust heat", very good Jay!

Had me in stitches with the 'exhaust out the bonnet' stuff!

You boys are nuts and I love you for it.
👍
I used to watch these videos for the cars, now I watch them for Phil and Jay's sense of humour.
👍+ the cars obvs 🤓
Was it episode one where you said "I'm not going to get carried away" 😂
Yep, Episode one of my life.
@@driftworks I would expect nothing less!
Hands down best content on UA-cam. You guys kick ass
Cheers 👍
THE SOUND! CANT YOU IMAGINE THE V10 SOUND THAT IS COMING 🤘
Fingers crossed its worth all the effort 👍
Awesome Vid’s! Boys buy any new car, but real Men keep older cars running and with Awesome Custom work! Keep it up guys!

Many, many thanks to Phil & Jay for bringing us some semblance of normalcy when we need it most. Well done, lads. Cheers

It seems like a cool idea with the exhaust I am sure it will turn out even better than planned!

To an E46 M3 nut, this is the best reality TV. Ever.
You casually walking past that CSL all the time and basically ignoring it is starting to drive me insane though 🤪
Haha, i love the CSL, but my first love will always be V1TEN!
Sleeper. Turbo and a 318i badge on the back. Love the channel 👍
Haha, doesn't work so well on an E46 when the M3 is widebody... Plus no turbos! 😄
The term "Can you just" is the essence of life through the hands of proper craftsmen. The burning salt in the dark pits of OEM-kingdom.
😄
Can’t wait to see the headers! Love making them myself so this is right what i wanna see!

One word..... epic. Absolutely loving this, making want to get silly with my 330d 😅

Great TV for lockdown, thank you keep them coming guys
will you have too take manifold off too change spark plugs lol
We'll do our best 👍
" something's coming out the bonnet" has got sticker & clothing line written all over it, Jay. Good job
I need that as a sticker haha
😄
I quite genuinely can't wait to see this.

away from the norm, good works guys

The best series of videos to come out of the uk in a while cant wait for this to be done, no way we in the time were your having to restore e46s haha
Thanks. I'm going to stop calling it a restoration series now I think 😄
Love❤️ Love❤️ Love❤️ 964, e46 Keep strong guys!!! Best projects!!

Love this guys do mods NA unlike many others who can only tune something going the turbo way
👍Thanks man!

It's crazy how every brand new part you bought either for the 964 turbo or the v10 needed some finessing lol 😂🤣🤣🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Yep, there's alway something.
Twin 5 x 3" tips. Out the back should look siiiiiick!! 😂
Barf 😁
No 😂
How’s the heat going to affect the accessories and belts on the front of the engine?
I think the GT3 style radiators is a good idea and would look good with the e46 front bumper!
We'll have to see. We'll shield stuff if we need to.
Driftworks keep up the good work. Nice to see some local lads doing world breaking stuff.

Thanks man.
Would an M3 GTR rad help? They are a bottom half rad with a thick core but I’m not sure if they mount further forward or not
I've not seen one. I'll see if I can find an image 👍
Remote the rads yes absolutely! Dry ice cooler too! Do they make high temp belts? Maybe some shielding too?
It'll be shielded somehow I imagine 👍
5:10 thats definitely more of a trend from the other side of the pond Phil. 😄
There's quite a lot of it over here too to be honest.
So glad this is back. Please dont ever sell this beautiful beast
👍
Yes, this and a DannyDC2 video to watch later. Going to be good!
👍
I always like before I even watch ,,
Awesome 👏🏻 guys !!
👍Thanks man!
I would think some form of exhaust coating will be needed on the headers. Cerakote would look and preform well because no one likes header wrap. The 10-1 going into a titanium exhaust would be icing on the sound cake!!
Yeah possibly. It's extremely expensive though. We'll have to see.
Holy shit the boquet of badassery!
👍
Does S85 have a split pin crank that makes it even firing? Will the 10 to 1 header give that F1 shriek with an uneven firing V10?
Would coating the collector and manifolds help with the heat issues you may have? Zircotec (other coatings are available) for example may help?
That's possibly part of the plan. I used Zircotec in the past. Are there other options now? Zircotec were really expensive.
@@driftworks Zircotec still is incredibly expensive. Cerakote is another alternative.
You know it's gonna be good when Craig walks over to have a look. LMAO
🤓Walks over to look disappointed!
@@driftworks LMFAO
Any progress? I can't wait to hear it, I'm guessing it'll sound like a 90s F1.
Maybe push fans could help a bit with packaging :) Can't wait to see it running
Hopefully I can use normal fans. Push don't work very well generally.
Very very cool!!!
👍
Phil that engine bay needs to be black and orange so orange cam covers and pipe work it’s makes sense in so many ways and advertises your company colours like nothing else when you show this car off !!!!!!
Jay convince the boss it makes sense 🤣
It may happen. You never know.
What about 10 in a Y to one then the 10s could go at each side with the Y in the middle then one down and under ?
There's no advantage to that when a single 3.5 fits nicely.
Are you planning on using spring connections for each runner into the merge collector? Can’t see how you could possibly install/remove any other way.
Yep, some runners will possibly be split halfway as well.
Driftworks good deal! Gonna be cool to see/hear when complete.
Perhaps a vented bonnet might be necessary. Since the runners and collector is top side with ITBs , the ITB might choke from the height temps?
I hope not, but we'll see.
I know you know what you’re doing but don’t forget you could used a stepped core rad, if you’re not using something off the shelf of course, something which is really thick at the bottom and goes into the lower centre grille of the bumper like an intercooler would.
👍Yeah it's going to be a bit more custom than I originally hoped.
Love these videos!
👍
When you have all the parts in such a massive pile how do you keep track of bolts and other hardware? Is it a pain to find it all again?
It's not the way I work, but Jay has his own process (that doesn't work as he loses everything 😄)
top techs you 3.. love the content...
👍
Could you use a twin duct CSL bumper, using the two holes for small heat exchangers and then use the PSDesigns n/s/f main beam delete induction hole for the engine air?
That's the bumper that was on it. I'm just going to have it open ITB I think.
@@driftworks its great how us people suggest to you what you should do with Your car. Gotta love the internet
Have you thought about flattened/oval tubing? Also a duct through the bonnet towards the ITB's would be cool
For the runners? No. I may use it in a very short section under the car where it gets a bit tight though.
@@driftworks Thought it might be easier due to the shape of the exhaust port and packaging of the collector. But I'm sure you thought it through
Craig ‘how did that happen?’
Jay ‘it just went through’ 😂😂😂😂👍
😄
Was it eminox your we’re thinking about? Who make the stacks etc for trucks?
Alunox 👍
Can't wait to see it finished, and then to hear it!
Are you going to do any supporting mods to the footwork? Or leave it how it was before?
It's on Schirmer Nitron suspension. I just need to check damper stroke at my own ride height as I've been on the side of the road with a snapped rear Nitron damper in this car before.

Micheal Cox has done an 8 to 1 and tanner foust has had an 8 to 1 on his rockstar Passat. Just ideas for reference for a 10 to 1. That's awesome
Tanners car is why I'm doing this.
Are you going to get whole exhaust system ceramic coated to keep engine bay temps as low?
Possibly. I need to see the design first.
@driftworks you guys should see my genuine 12 into 1 exhaust system
That's f$ck!ng sweet! Nice one!
@@driftworks thanks man it's a shit ton of work 🤣
I see something coming out of the bonnet! Craig will fix it once y’all leave! Rofl!
