😄 There are two things to consider: 1: There is a huge amount of work that you don't see on camera. I wouldn't be able to do it without Jays amazing work, but Jay wouldn't have any work to do without the work that I do in the background. & 2: He doesn't want to drive it 😄
I've just loved watching this series and the INSANITY that trying to make the proper steering set up for this match up. Wow super props to Jay! Seriously hard and meticulous. I thought this whole idea was next to impossible. But it turns out...I WAS RIGHT! LOL. But only next to impossible not totally. You guys are CRAZY but in all the best ways! Cheers from Canada!
Everyone needs a Jay in their life😜. Also a belated happy birthday to him, although if he’s only 40, his papar-round must have been in Beirut🤣😜. Either that or you’re working him too hard😛.
phil you guys rock now i'm getting excited to see it finished hows the family good i hope i recon i saw jay giving the car a lick and a tickle when you had your back turned lol the look on jays face was priceless when the cross member was finally bolted up the look of a box of biscuites
Those E36 M3 Evo shocks are very interesting! Never knew there was a such a difference in stroke from e46-36. Keep up the good work lads going to be amazing the end product!
👍 Turns out I was mistaken & this is the standard Z4M setup. It uses E36M3 front and E46 M3 rear, but the standard non M Z4 uses E46 front and rear. Very confusing.
lol. love this build that you and Jay are doing. it is a step further now and I can wait to see you drive this one again when its done. keep up the good work guys.
Jay were your biscuits fella what you playing at your letting yourself down you par of handsome bastard's need to do a calendar you both throwing fantastic shapes rolling around on floor none the less great work fellas
Do you have a jacking trolly table, they are great for this type of install, could even modify it by adding a removable scissor jack on a small extension to the table to pick up the gear box and adjust the angle off the engine/gear box. 👍
I love how Phil thinks he's gonna have any time for projects when that baby arrives 😄 prepare to have no time for anything at all, ever. Good luck mucker
Finally one big step forwards I guess the next video will be a couple of steps backwards 😂 🙊🙊🙈hahaha definitely the best idea Getting that made hopefully full steam ahead see some big progress in the next couple of videos can’t wait to watch
My solution to lowered e46 was to cut the antiroll bar links in half and weld them back together overlapping with the right clearance between control arm and link end. The car cornered and rode like shit however because I can’t afford good coil overs so it’s on some good old Koni yellow shocks and springs and it rides so nice now. I’m 24 and I’m already tired of hard suspension 😂
Would it be worth 3-D scanning or amending the CAD data that the crossmember was made from so you could duplicate it if asked in the future and recoup some of the investment you put into it? Great to see the progress 👍
I've watched this entire build from the first episode some episodes I've even watched twice and thrice. By far this has been my favorite episode thus far. Think mostly because Phil is back working with Jay. I never knew thats thr e46 struts are that short. I have a e36 evo. Thought the suspensions were the same, but nice work Phil and Jay. Can't wait for the next episode. What brakes are you going to be using 🤔. Will the brake rotors and calipers of your porsche 964 fit?
I cringed when the subframe flexed when you first installed it, its all well and good 3D designing parts but a proper FE analysis is even more important for structural components.
In fareness the load was completely miss placed as it was a single centre point rather than on the two engine mount bracket points, so even if a 3D simulation was run it wouldn't have identified the flex. But unless you're playing with topology optimisation you may as well add some reinforcement.
Boys nice work. Phil nice to see the boss getting into it. Phil I'm in need of a favour. I have an old school Celica I'm putting a dct in and well my CAD is shit and wanting to know if you have a DXL file of the centre spigot that you made that you can share. Everything helps in builds like this 👍 cheers
funny! i was going to make a snarky remark about using bubble wrap to protect the engine and darned if you didn't beat me to it! once everything fit, i think i would take it on and off five or ten times just to enjoy watching it go together properly. after all that work, putting in only once seems to be wasteful... somehow.
Great video as always! Are you guys going to be at Goodwood Retrorides Weekender, and if you are do you think the V10 might make a public appearance?? 😋😁😎👌
@@driftworks Latest announcement I've seen online is September 5th and 6th 👍😎 Saw you there last year, didn't know the Driftworks name at the time... now I certainly do!
e36 m3 knuckle wont fit on e46 m3 arm as ball joint on e46 m3 is thicker so You need redrill knuckle or change balljoint for smaller ones (normal e36 ones etc etc) but its not garage jobbie due to ally.
steve murch yep. But won’t be a problem. There are rules about massive changes but this don’t fall into them as not any major bulkhead mods or chassis rails mods etc.
i think jay should have the "first Drive/first start" when its all back together as a reward for the effort he's put into it.
ohh he better have!
6000 biscuits AND the first drive (I do imagine he gets paid tbf)
But what if he likes that more than the LS???
Jay's input and hard work has been absolutely fantastic but don't forget that he's at work and getting payed to do everything that's been done .

😁
I had my doubts but that front subframe is a work of art!!!
👍
Tom Schirmer & team are absolute BMW geniuses. Fastest BMWs on the Nordschleife, always have, always will.
Yep, seriously awesome car builder!
Get you a friend like Jay who puts the same amount of passion and detail into your project when he's working on it as you do youself!

Tom; grumpy? Naah never 😄.
I'm guessing now everyone is exited to see how the ten into one is coming along. Nice work guys. 😉😎
It will be a few episodes away, but a lot of 'virtual' progress has been made. Cheers

Will be interesting to see if you guys are counting the hours that have been put into this project so far then total it all up at the end?
No chance. Never add things like that up or you'll never do it again.
Do the larger dampers just mean you can have a low car, with better ride than if using e46 dampers?
It means that at lower ride height we can retain more damper stroke & adjust it so the bump stop comes into play where we want it to.
All hail jay again nice 👍 work

There's no one else that would want to go through what we have to get the engine in this position.

The entire 250+kg was resting on a small block of wood in the centre of the steering rack so it's not a fair analysis.

Thanks 👍. Sounds like a cool project. Which bit are you looking for info on?
The centre gearbox spigot. I need to make an adaptor to the sr20 motor from the BMW gearbox. Cheer
I'm not sure which bit you mean. Is it a part that we've made on the E30 or the E46?
The threaded addaptor that you used to join the motor and gearbox together. Usually attached to some kind of flex plate or flywheel.
Got an email I'll send a pic ?

Haha 😄 Don't worry, there's zero chance this wont be on and off a few times yet.
Is there any video that explains the z4m and where it came from ect ect ?
Was explained early on. Had to be part of the deal of getting the V10 back. Simple as that.
There's nothing in detail, but yeah I had to buy the Z4M to be able to make the V10 M3 deal happen.
You need more Baxter on the channel. Bring him to the garage more to keep Jay company
