How absolutely foul. Not a single word from him about being heartbroken about losing her as a spouse, the mother of their household, nothing talking about the good in her that he's losing. Because I am a person who loves in my relationships, when someone leaves my heart aches for the loss in my life of all the wonderful qualities that person brought. But he's upset because his "property" defied him. And it's more about his ego and the feelings of humiliation of not being able to make her submit to him entirely. He looks at his situation and is only upset with himself for not being "as powerful" as other abusive men who keep their partners stuck with them.
