He gets his arm blasted off, screams as he's definitely feeling an intense wave of fear, BUT readys his weapon with his remaining hand/arm. Dillon was no ordinary man. He was a warrior to the end. Even if he met his end swiftly.
Our local cinema has been doing retro movies the last month. Seeing Predator on the big screen is another animal entirely. Saw the Ultimate Hunter Edition, all cleaned up, was absolutely amazing.
Honestly, this was the scariest moment in the movie to me when I was a kid, it symbolized the hopelessness of a clean escape. When he turns his head towards the Predator, that look of desperation he gives is just incredible
0:48 This is my favorite moment of this scene. You can tell by his expression it's the moment Dillon realizes he's going to die and he can't do anything about it. Such great acting by Carl Weathers!
The predator was watching him the whole time… This movie is full of hidden details, right when Dillon turns around after hearing the predator say “Any time”, you can see the predator is actually standing on a tree branch right above Dillon’s right shoulder, then the camera pans around as Dillon is still looking for him and moments later the predator reveals himself to Dillon, he was toying with his prey, it’s all a game to him!
I was shit scared of this movie when I first saw it in the early 1990s. This scene is one of the scariest. If you jump to the shoes of Dilon, you are up against something you don't understand, something you can't see, something way more powerful than you....you are simply going to die. The way predator is running towards Dilon, its actually death running towards him. This is a fantastic film. One of the best alien vs. human movies ever made. I would rate it as the best Arnold Schwarzenegger movie after T2. Even generations from now, this movie could be still enjoyed.
Despite the fact that Dillon was hiding the details of the operation, I always felt sorry for his death. Carl's acting is very convincing when he discovers Mac dead.
Earlier Mac barked at Dillon for slipping up and giving away their position and then threatened to "Bleed him real quiet like and leave him here" But here it seems like it was Mac who actually ghosted them and gave away their position, leading to both of their deaths
@@Defender78Bill Duke(Mac) was absolutely brilliant. Loved it when he played dead. The look of death on his face was absolutely realistic. When it said ANYTIME 2 get his attention.
Dillon was a different type of coporate a-hole pencil pusher. Most film pencil pushers like Burke from Aliens initially start off as artificially charming and empathetic until the last 20 minutes reveal them to be the most heinous character. Dillon is revealed early on to have manipulated Dutch's team and Hoppers team to eliminate the revelutionaries for the CIA . While he's an a-hole at the begining he avoids going the same route as Burke in that he doesnt run away or do anything cowardly . He accepts that he's become what he reffered Dillon and his team as "An expendable asset " and at least accepts responsibility for his actions . When Dutch tells him he can't win and Dillon replies " No but maybe I can get even " its basically him telling Dutch "I know I screwed you guys over and that I'm likely to be a goner by the end , but let me make it up to you by buying you guys some time to escape". By the end he's pretty much earned Dutch's respect to the point where Dutch gives him an extra MP5 to protect himself . Dillon may have been a pencil pushing a-hole , but in the end he went out like a champ.
Wow I never thought of it like that. That was actually pretty good way of putting it. When he said maybe I can get even, I thought he meant at least he would wound predator. But what you said seem more deeper and real. Now I got more respect for Dillon lol
0:55 to 1:01 see that slight distortion in the pan and scan movement, just up and to the left of that big fern leaf? The Predator is standing right there looking at Dillon and he doesn't even see it until he looks back. But WE see it, and it's scary AF to know Dillon is a dead man before he knows it himself. Awesome scene. Awesome suspense.
yeah he's standing there watching him the whole time, even taunting him with playing a recording, anytime, then intentionally reveals himself by flashing his eyes at him, as in I'm up here. doing that either to taunt or making itself a challenge.
There's a lot of really cool stuff in this scene that make it so good. I love at 1:32 when Carl gets over the pain and the adrenaline picks up, you get a real sense that he's in fight or flight mode and he's chosen to fight. Then right after, the scene at 1:45 where the blades come out, check out that stylish tilt of the camera. Just really badass.
I must have watched this movie 100 times growing up. Dillon and Mac's scenes were always so memorable with how they setup the suspense and unique kills. It is crazy how well this movie still holds up.
I feel like the moment they heard Dillon screaming at 1:53, that was the moment Billy knew he had to step up and honor Dillon's death by facing the Predator knowing his fate as sure as Dillon's.
The creepy playback recording of Mac’s “Anytime” is symbolic of Mac saving Dillon from a deadly scorpion but he can’t be saved from the Predator. “Turn Around” is exactly what Dillon did after seeing Mac’s corpse.
After hearing Mac's voice saying, "Anytime" from behind you, after you've just found Mac dead, you'd really feel like you were dealing with some kind of demon.
Due to scenes like this, this movie could easily be considered a horror movie, but instead of dumb teenagers, the victims are special forces soldiers. I enjoyed this film in my childhood.
No I feel Bad dir the predator I mean he Comes to a planet and what he have to See a guy kills a poor scorpion! So what should he do,? Tell me please? What Choice did he have than ripping of there skinns?
Dillon gets a bad rep. Even though he was treated like dirt by the team he still redeemed himself with this and was fearless. Great character played by the legendary Carl Weathers. I just realised John Mc Tiernan should've directed the first resident evil with this film in mind. THAT would've been good.
He was treated badly because he lied about the mission. He claimed it was a rescue mission, but the truth was Dillon used Dutch and his team to get rid of the guerrillas
do you know how many of us would have just stood there looking at our arm unable to move by the fear we felt?! Dillon still had the mental stability to try & shoot with his remaining SMG.
His adrenaline was probably firing up like crazy from losing that arm and the realization of imminent death, so the only thing on his mind was to kill the Predator before he bled out.
The power in this scene was and still is phenomenal. The use of camera angles, subliminal shots, and suspenseful build up create a moment of unparalleled terror. It feels much like the moments leading up to a car accident. We know something horrible is about to happen, but not how. It is this uncertainty which creates the Fear, and the excitement. The look on Dillon's face at 0:54 was perfect. in that moment, we all knew that he was already dead. We were just waiting to see how it would happen.
Fun fact: To add realism to this scene, Carl Weathers insisted that the predator had to shot his real arm off. The predator helped the medical crew to reattach his arm afterwards.
The music truly brought this movie to an extra mile, it's superb, it fucking fits every single scene and it drives you crazy for how dark and mysterious it is, you just feel as them, scared of something you can't see! Absolute masterpiece, we're lucky to have such a movie!

This is one of the greatest filmed death sequences ever!!! Even with his arm shot off Dillon still used his other arm to try to kill Jungle Hunter. Then the way Jungle Hunter with cheetah like speed ran down on Dillon and lifted a 275 pound man with one arm.....EPIC!!!
One of the most wildest moments in cinema history. All of Carl’s expressions were spot on. Especially when he started firing the gun. He looked like he was crying 😢 there.😳😳😳😳😳😳
It's really clever how they show Dillon in slow-motion, to emphasise the nightmarish sluggishness of his reaction to the Predator. Meanwhile the Predator's aiming and movement is in real-time, making it seem horrifyingly fast. I recommend Collative Learning's video on this scene, he goes through it all.
Such an amazingly well executed movie! We had this on VHS when I was a kid, but it was taped off the TV and was edited. In the version I spent years watching Dillon’s death scene ends when he is blasted with the Predator’s shoulder canon, so I always thought that he died from a shot to the chest like Blaine. Imagine my shock when in my late teens I moved into my own place and Predator was one of the first DVDs I bought for my action movie collection, and I discovered that there was a whole lot more to Dillon’s death scene than I expected. If the team could have seen how Dillon went out then they would have respected him a whole lot more. He took it like a man and even tried to look for the kill shot just seconds after getting his arm blown off. A true warrior. Also RIP Carl Weathers, a true gentleman and a very underrated actor.
I just love how the shot at 0:55 doesn’t specifically draw attention to the Predator. It’s there on the branch if you look closely, but we have just as much of a chance of seeing it as Dillon does
Dillon's death was probably the benchmark for perfect movie scene. It was a combination of a perfect script, a perfect soundtrack, perfect sound effects, perfect photography and perfect acting.

“Mando! I want this one brought in COLD, it’s personal!”
Mannn this scene is so majestic and messed up but I’ll never forget it . RIP CHAMP
Rip. Legend. Thank you, For the childhood memory growing up, you won’t be forgotten.
Everytime carl weathers character dies in a movie part of me does thats why i watch action jackson over and over again .....love this actor
Jon Moris I don't blame you!
He dies also in happy Gilmore, but that was an hilarious death😂
I miss the manly men movies. Do see any of these film nowadays.
I was only 5 years old when my Dad made me watch this!! Best Dad ever!!!❤❤❤
1:15
Look at Dillons face and eyes .. great acting .. and the music background .. Damn !!!! .. that's really good work ..
R.I.P. Carl , loved your movies.
I will be honest.
I will pee when a beast like predator comes running towards me like that @ 1:35.
Very good acting. I can see the fear in dillons eyes and after screaming the surprise of looking the death coming after
The way the Predator sprints around Dillon like a lion always amazes me. Just like a hunter.
Rip Car Weathers, best scene ever and done so well, movies today just can't hold a torch to this type of acting
Legend has it that gun is still shooting.
fr
I love his expression, your eyes looking for Predator show how fear he was
Rest in peace Carl, what a great actor
I just love how the shot at 0:55 doesn’t specifically draw attention to the Predator. It’s there on the branch if you look closely, but we have just as much of a chance of seeing it as Dillon does
Dillon's death was probably the benchmark for perfect movie scene. It was a combination of a perfect script, a perfect soundtrack, perfect sound effects, perfect photography and perfect acting.
Epic movie death scene. What a film, amazing acting and film making. That soundtrack is hauntingly beautiful too.. they don't make 'em like that anymore.
this might be the most iconic death in the franchise
I always liked how the camera came up after Weathers at 0:23. Good camera directing, added excitement to the scene.
There will never be another predator movie like this one what a masterpiece in sci fi
First film i ever saw him in.
This scene is so beautifuly shot and acted.
I love the way the ending credits gave you a really nice collage of all the characters
First thing i did when i heard he'd died was watch this film to pay my respects.
RIP Carl Weathers, a true legend 💪🏿
Duel mp5's ❤
Oh yes 😄
I feel so bad he was my favorite character 😭
You’re an ASSET
At 0:59 you can actually see him before Dillon spots him with the glowing eyes
Rest in power, Carl Weathers.
Such a great scene. Carl Weathers is awesome in Predator.
Alan Silvestri's score is so effective in this scene. It amps up the tension to 10, as we know Dillon's end is near.
This scene in Predator (1987) hits really different now with Carl Weathers passing away today at the age of 76. 😢😢😢
