Too dangerous to audit up here. Polis Scotland will seize your phone in an _instant_ - and they're still pushing back hard against body worn cameras except for firearms, so they can abuse with impunity.
Hey AB, I love your videos and just wanted to share a bit of information regarding legal tender (I'm from the black country now living in Scotland). Scottish banknotes are LEGAL CURRENCY, which means they have been approved by the UK parliament. However Scottish banknotes are NOT LEGAL TENDER, EVEN IN SCOTLAND. In fact, you'll find NO BANKNOTE INCLUDING ENGLISH ONES ARE LEGAL TENDER IN SCOTLAND. Legal tender means, money that a person is legally required to accept in payment of a debt. Legal currency means, money that is approved by the UK parliament. I hope this helps. Oh and yes, we do have £1 banknotes but they're not in circulation anymore although the bank will exchange money for the £1 notes if you ask.
Im from northern Ireland, we know all about trying to use our banknotes in GB over the years. We had the added confusion of our neighbours in Ireland trying to use the Punt then the Euro in shops in England. Unfortunately Our notes are not fully legal tender and a GB shop can legally refuse to accept them. It is at the discretion of the business whether they take them or not.(Scottish notes are probably the same). You wont lose out taking a northern Irish note in GB, but GB banks have then the added problem of returning the non Bank of England notes back to NI banks so they discourage the shops from accepting them....Only bank of England notes are Legal Tender in the UK.
I used to work at the post office; a couple of times I had the grand speech from people about not being able to spend Scottish money in England, and how stupid they were down there for not knowing it’s all sterling. Then I would give them Irish notes and they’d melt down saying they couldn’t use it and wanted a Scottish one 😂
Northern Irish notes are legal currency just like Scottish ones so the issuing banks have to hold an equivalent amount of English currency therefore shops can accept them without any risk or worry. Of course shops don’t have to accept them but they can refuse to accept English notes too. Just like you could decide to only accept buttons for an item you were selling if you felt like it. Irish notes would be euros now and it tends to only be large shops or ones in tourist areas that accept those.
Wrong they are not legal tender in England and Wales, however the UK government accept Scottish notes as legal currency (there is a difference between tender and currency) because of that business's in England can legally refuse to accept them. Some do, some don't. Personally I don't
While many retailers will accept Northern Ireland notes, they are not obligated to do so. Shopkeepers and taxi drivers can refuse to accept them. I'm from Norn Iron, I remember seeing a Scottish £1 note as a kid - couldn't believe it.
When the council don’t do their jobs people complain to the council. If people do what the council should have done……. You’ll be facing charges, foams, vans an fines for care in the community
I am Scottish but worked in England for a Scottish company for many years on construction contracts, the company sent our pay packets down every week and we had to do the usual wrangle every week explaining to shop keepers that it was legal tender etc ( they knew it was fine but just liked winding us up ) !!!, we were told of a local pub landlord who was giving our guys hassle when paying for beer so we organised a night out in his pub and ordered a huge round, as it arrived we made sure not to take a drink and one of our big lads offered the landlord payment in “our” money of course the landlord refused to take it so we all stood up and walked out of the pub !!, lesson learned !!!
Only English notes are legal tender but that doesn’t mean a shop or seller have to accept them either as they can choose to contract with you using whatever they want. Legal tender just means the money has to be accepted by a court to pay a debt. Scottish notes are legal currency since parliament has passed laws saying this. The Scottish banks also have to hold an equivalent amount in English notes to back the notes they print, or at least they used to.
Scottish notes are classified as promissory notes, which are essentially cheques drawn on the issuing bank's account. Scottish banknotes are not legal tender and in Scotland Bank of England notes are not legal tender either. The Bank of England one pound note was legal tender in Scotland but was withdrawn from circulation many years ago. Officially, the phrase 'legal tender' means money that a person is obliged to accept if offered it in payment of a debt. So in the same way a retailer can refuse a Scottish note south of the border, a Scottish retailer can actually refuse current Bank of England notes.
