One thing about the Budokai trilogy (along with Infinite World and Shin Budokai) is that you can cancel charge attacks with the guard button. It really elevates it over Tenkaichi for me
@@DrJojoGaming Yeah. For example, you could do (KKKKK) and cancel the last K with a guard while charging and do another combo string afterwards. To really understand the ins and outs, I'd recommend looking up cancel combos for Budokai 3 (a good resource is Dr. Doppietta)
That's not enough to elevate a game.😂 Budokai is hardly a real fighting game and Tenkaichi is definitely not one at all, but canceling is not what makes a fighting game have depth. Character individuality, nuance, and OPTIONS does. First of all, the characters literally had all the same moves and inputs, as well as the same animations in Budokai which was cringe, lol. There was no high or low options, no jump-ins, no utility based moves to extend combos, etc. Budokai is sheer mediocrity trying to masquerade as a fighting game and it never qualified, lol. I was playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 heavily around the time Budokai 1 came out and I was laughing at how bad the Budokai games were and only played them because it was Dragon Ball because the gamer in me rebuked them.

8:27 B3 has the best kaioken art style in any dragonball game. All other games (Except SparkingZero and Burst Limit) just put a red filter over goku and call it a day
Oh this has always been *The* debate back then😂 I really do like Tenkaichi 3 but I’m a Budokai 3 fan through and through and it has always been my definitive favorite dragonball game so far in nothing has topped it yet for me not FighterZ or Xenoverse or kakarot from unlocking the SS4 Gogeta fusion capsule to the beam struggle, Dragon Universe and the branching storylines and the originals soundtrack regardless of the controversy surrounding the plagiarism all of it was a perfect package for me burst limit and infinite world couldn’t compare honestly

The original DBZ Budokai is the only Dragon Ball game to date that features Cell in his bulky form (I think it's called "weighted" in the game). If anyone remembers, Cell entered that form out of desperation in order to defeat Gohan, and he could in that state. Despite having the power to defeat Gohan, he ran into the same speed issue Trunks did in his "Super" form. Similarly, it's a callback to 100% Max Power Freiza and Super Saiyan Goku.
If I was to go back to any of these games for any reason, it would be these for each respective game: Budokai 1 has the best story mode cutscenes and storytelling in general. Budokai 3 is the best of the standard '2D' fighting game styles (although Dragon Rush sucks). Story Mode is OK, but feels pretty cheap outside of the open-world flying segments. Tenkaichi 2 has the most expansive story mode coverage, though it's 'cutscenes' are still severely lacking in quality compared to Budokai 1. Budokai 3 has the best gameplay of the Tenkaichi series, as well as by far the biggest roster of any of these other games, making it the most replayable, and the most accurate DB battle simulator. It's Story Mode is a neat concept, but is missing far too much content/battles.
I was annoyed at first when sparking zero was announced since I wanted a budokai type game, (not that i perferred it but it was covered less) my mentality wasif you want a budokai tenkaichi type game you have xenoverse (i know its not the same but its quite similar) but for budokai you would have to go back to burst limit all the way in 08. After seeing the effects that sparking zero has, destruction, explosions, splash effects and others makes me glad it was made. Maybe next year we can get a budokai type game

They seem to make a Dragonball game almost every year so they have plenty of opportunities to return to Budokai. I wouldn't more branching out like a smash bros type as well
I genuinely think that Xenoverse's combat system is effectively DIMPS' take on Tenkaichi, but with Budokai DNA. SS1 and SS2 even keep the exact same 10% and 15% stat boosts AND their respective ki bar requirements. (SS3 is slightly weaker at 20% instead of 25% like it is in most Budokai games, and it only takes 5 bars to transform rather than 6). The only thing the transformations in Xenoverse 2 don't have is ki drain, and you can even add that in yourself via Super Soul in exchange for a stat boost.

In my opion its Budokai 3 / Infinite World is the best DBZ games Ever for me and ill be honest im baised because i was born in 93 and I used to go to the arcades and play Street Fighter Killer Instinct and Tekken Countlessly my first Dragon Ball Gaming experience was the Budokai series but that doesn't mean Tenkaichi (Sparking) isn't Good they're all amazing in there own way but I love the Traditonal Fighting Game and OG Budokai 1 2 3 and Infinite World is more Traditional fighting then Tenkaichi ( Sparking) 3d Arena And When Dragon Ball FighterZ came out I lost my mind lol But I'm also still losing my mind over Sparking Zero I Can't Wait! 🤘🏻
I totally get it. I had some amazing memories playing the original budokai games when I was younger. the traditional fighting style of budokai games do lend themselves to be more competitive than 3d arena fighters.

Tenkaichi is stronger overall as a series. But I prefer Budokai because of Budokai 3. The strength of Budokai 3 is far ahead of everyone else. B3 was so good it was almost good enough to be a serious fighting game and not just be only a DBZ game
Budokai 2 getting more Ls with its lack of coverage when people talk about Budokai. A fun fact about Budokai 2 is it was the first time Trunks had SSJ2. Something they gave him again in Budokai 3 & Infinite World. Of course, this was before he canonically had the form, so i guess you could condider it a what if form. You mentioned the What If scenarios with Budokai 1, but Budokai 2 took it to a whole other level. Not only did the story have a what if Majin Frieza and Majin Cell in the story mode, but there were what if fusions/absorptions exclusive to only that game. You could play as Super Buu absorbing Vegeta, Tien & Yamcha, Frieza, or Cell. You could also play as a fusion between Goku and Hercule w/ 2 different looks, and you could play as Tiencha. All of those things were only in Budokai 2 minus Tiencha who showed up in Fusions, Heroes, and Dokkan. There was also a special version of Budokai 2 that added some special costumes. Cell got his Majin Costume while Frieza got his Majin Costume, a Cooler Costume, and a costume based on his Son, Kurieza. A cool little tid bit about Budokai 1 was that it was one of the only games to have Power Weighted Cell as a playable form. Only issue was for some reason the form looked correct in the Story Mode fight, but if you used the form yourself in VS mode, it was just regular Perfect Cell's model.
I do remember the fun Fusion they had in budokai 2. It was the most memorable thing about the game for me when I was younger. Its a shame they did not bring them back in budokai 3.

As of now, unless you own a Japanese PS2, the only other way to play the most complete version of the game is either Emulation or specifically playing the Gamecube version of Budokai 2. Even the gamecube version is missing those Japanese Special Edition exclusive costumes, but it does have a little bit more content than the basic PS2 version

@DrJojoGaming I think it's simply because it wasn't received well/didn't sell well like Infinite World didn't. It had the same plagiarism issues that Budokai 1 and 3 had, so that definitely wasn't the issue.
My favorite Dragon Ball fighting game series are the Budokai series and Dragon Ball FighterZ. I loved the Budokai series because the Budokai series was well-balanced and it was Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, Tekken and SoulCalibur in the world of Dragon Ball and I love Dragon Ball FighterZ because it is Marvel vs. Capcom in the world of Dragon Ball. The other Dragon Ball fighting games that I have tried out in the past (Including the Tenkaichi series) are nothing but all gimmick and no skill.
Time. I basically review 4 games and do the whole video process myself (game recording, scripting, voice recording, editing, thumbnail, etc). If I add more games it increases how long each step takes. Since i have a 9-5 who knows when this video would come out if I did. I also tried doing more games in a video and did not like the process, the one piece video. I capped myself at 4 games per video to make it more manageable and can make a video every 1 to 2 months instead.
Why just you just make the first video about Budokai 1 and Budokai Tenkaichi 1 and make the second video about Budokai 2 and Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and make the third video about Budokai 3 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3 other UA-camr did that and they never skip a game

I could play 2-4 hours of each game and just talk about slight differences but can't say I wrote a fair review of the games.

Both are trash. I'm a fighting game player (real fighting games) and neither game didn't deliver a decent experience until their 3rd release, which is nuts. Rushed, low effort and cheap. Those first two games of each series reeked of shared animations, button mashing, lackluster gameplay and mechanics... the epitome of licensing cashgrab.

Both are trash. I'm a fighting game player (real fighting games) and neither game didn't deliver a decent experience until their 3rd release, which is nuts. Rushed, low effort and cheap. Those first two games of each series reeked of shared animations, button mashing, lackluster gameplay and mechanics... the epitome of licensing cashgrab.
