- Oddbodz, a collection of crazy and crude cards, completely captured the imaginations of 90s kids in Australia and New Zealand.
The series was made up entirely of artwork from Australian artist Andy Hook, with many of the characters he created becoming iconic for a generation of young creatives.
I tracked Hook down to discuss the series and to find out how it all happened.

We do remember your work Andy and still care, thank you for creating all the characters for Oddbodz.
As a Kiwi, the fact that the original artist didn't even know his work was super popular here until 20 years later is hilarious to me.
What a great guy, so great listening to him. I was only missing like 3 from the original set. Our school banned them, not because they were crude, but because kids were stealing them from each other.
He later went on to use the Oddbodz characters in K-Zone comics, and had some Flash fames based on these renditions up on the K-Zone site.
There was also a PC game where the conceit is that YOU'RE Mystery Kid, basically a kid from our world (you) sucked into the Oddbodz realm.
Thank you - watching this has brought up so many great memories. I always looked for the ‘hot’ cards.
I remember these as a kid. I didn't know they were only Australian. I'm 29 now and I loved them.
I love these cards, inspired me to draw from a yoing age, and now work in creative field. Authentic talent
It took me YEARS to find anything in relation to this artist and his art. I never had any of the cards, but I played an old Abandonware game from 1997 when I was growing up. Thanks for the video :) Decided to look them up again today and found this was very recent
This was fantastic. Thank you! (Grew up with these cards in NZ.) I distinctly remember my friend having the Snoop Doggy Do card, so it wasn't banned there.

Woww I remember collecting these
I collected the whole set and even had the Fold out case that you could hang from the wall. The glowing feature made them special to me too. At 39 im still annoyed at my Mum for throwing them away. I even miss the way they smelt :)
Spent all day today trying to remember what these cards were called. Got a flood of nostalgia and they just popped in my head today. Finally found a video!!!
Just looking at the images now transports me back to these cars, rubbing the heat spot while waiting for my turn on the Nintendo lol.
also, there's no way in hell these cars would ever be sold today without Karen's losing their minds 😂😂

Also wow I havent thought about Oddbodz in over 20 years at this point! Love that some of the core "Australiana" artwork from the 90's is surreal art like Andy Hook's work on Oddbodz or Reg Mombassa doing Mambo

@@ART-efacts that would be amaaaazing! Another artist that I think would make for a super interesting video would be Jeremy Andrew, he did the all the promo art for Qantas' kids mascot Max and some illustrations for the 'Minties Moments' on minties wrappers back in the day as well!
