There is quite an incredible video on UA-cam of Tim Akkerman and young 12 year old soprano Amira Willighagen singing the rock opera 'Barcelona' that has garnered over 1.3 million views that might be worth a look. She's one of the biggest French female singer (famous in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Russia). I've never seen anyone at all reacting to her and she's got a gorgeous voice and beautiful songs!
Singing Shallow & Phantom in the same show is child's play for Floor :). When Nightwish is on tour, she'll do 1.5 to 2 hours with hardly any breaks, and sings songs ranging from Weak Fantasy, Yours is an Empty Hope to Ghost Love Score and The Greatest Show on Earth. AND...when they're in NA, it's not that unusual for them to do 3 shows back to back to back. It's pretty well established that she's from a race of super beings sent to earth to bring peace, love, and good happiness stuff to humankind :) (props to anyone who gets *that* reference!).
Wow! You even called out the organ being used! As a progressive rock and jazz/fusion enthusiast, you've acquired more respect from me! Very used in the 70's and I love that sound. It's making a come back in modern bands as well.

Yes Christy, this was in the same show as the Phantom. In fact all the duets were in one show. Most of the singers did 2 duets. They set it up as as all of them made a choice and this was Tim's choice. The Phantom was Floor's choice. Ruben did only one duet, but he wrote the Dutch lyrics for one of Emma's duets. Tim however did three duets and this one was his third. Between this performance and The Phantom, was only one other duet, Rolf and Samantha.

In Canada there are "songwriters circles" that are similar in concept, but not so performance focused.

Christi even if you don't speak a word of Dutch watch the last episode of Beste Zangers in its entirety. Everybody has at least one duet, it is amazing watching all the performances culminating in Floor and Henk performing 'Phantom.' All the artists really show their talents in this episode even more than the rest.
I believe there are versions with English subtitles from all the episodes on UA-cam now.
The season with Floor kind of blew off.

Without any pauses, material of Beste Zangers (like all Dutch public broadcasting material) will be blocked in no time. It's even an achievement to publish with pauses.
@@jhcfight which is foolish since 99% of the world is only ever going to find this great stuff through English language reviews.
Public broadcasters could fund themselves from more intelligent monetization. Artists generally would support that.
@@crhu319 It's the neverending question, why to block something that in fact promote your show or song? Sometime I really don't understand what some marketing professionals are thinking, probably they are only doing the wrong job.
I agree to block a reaction of a new song or to something they are actively selling now, but tv shows or old songs, to me make no sense.
Having watched Nightwish run through a setlist of 15 songs in a row, including lengthy monsters like the Ghost Love Score late in the concert I don't think Floor would be too phased by having to do a couple of duets - even back to back. The woman is a true vocal athlete.
It is a very gentle version. I think you nailed in it that one descriptor. Tender. Soulful. Moving. Full of emotion and undercurrents of anguish and wariness and hope. I don't know that he deferred to Floor as much as they played different roles: her being the one who was 'diving in' and him the one who is supporting her courage to do that, as well as perhaps the character of the man in the song, who is hesitant and not 'all-in-' and wary around the edges. While she is both the one who is taking the step forward and encouraging him. They are mirroring the very skinless reality of the song, IMO.
It was the last episode, the duet one. All did 2 duets, besides Ruben doing one duet and Tim did 3. They normally record 2 episodes per evening but I don't know if this was the only one they did record that night. I think they do keep 1 recording time as spare in their 4-5 day time in case of bad weather. And the last duets including the Phantom were done in a bit of a hurry since the roof of the tent was leaking (you can see it in the clip) because of the heavy rain and wind. (It's recorded on Ibiza in April)

@@AnnieNYC1 You are most welcome. The host (Jan) won't be hosting the next season and will be replaced by 2 other singers that he used to host other similar shows with on the same channel. Not sure if it is just this year because he will also host the Eurovision song contest together with a previous host of this show and 2x Eurovision contender Edsilia Rombley. I know he has or had laryngitis and cancelled all his shows and wiki etc say that is the official reason he won't be hosting beste zangers but since the recordings of that is end of April and Eurovision is begin May and broadcasted by the same channel.. seems more logical.

@@icerabbit9419 Ah yes, you are right! they did reschedule the recording to December because of Eurovision, but Jan is sick so Nick and Simon took over. Quite weird that they don't mention anything about the contenders and dates on their website, like usual.

For future reference, in every episode (broadcasted weekly), one of the singers is the guest of honour, to whom the other singers sing the song that the main guest wrote/sang/were inspired by. E.g. in your reaction video about "winner", Tim Akkermans was the guest of honour. Tim wrote that song and released it on one of his albums, so Floor chose to sing that song to him. The songs that the singers are going to sing are kept secret, at least to the guest of honour that episode. In the episode Floor did the solo version of shallow, Emma was the guest of honour.
The very last episode of each (more recent) season is the duet episode. Everyone can choose 1 other person to sing a duet with. Tim chose Floor for this song. At the very end, Floor chose Henk to do Phantom of the Opera with.

Second, and proud of being here. Always a dedicated journey with glad and honest comments, so Iike to come back. Greetings from Germany .. and YES, both duetts did happen at the same evening. It was very interesting to me, that Henk had no idea, what other songs and combinations would be shown. That‘s what I like on the show, if you feel there is an element of surprise to the protagonists as well as to the audience. Thank you for your reactions!

And indeed, this was the same evening as the "Phantom" performance, the duets night and that means Henk did another song as well, namely "Vivo per Lei" which he sang with Emma Heesters, you'll love that one too.

Yes this was also in the final episode where they did Phantom, Phantom was the last song of the show.

When Floor gets off the stool and get up you know it's about to go down...
All duos were in the last episode. Phantom was the last song of the series. It was raining and thundering very hard and you can see the rain leaking through the tent during the performance of Phantom Of The Opera.
So Floor started the season and ended the season, as it should be.

At some point Tim looked like he had been given a Gift, being able to share intimate stage with Floor ❤. You don't get a duet partner like that every day unless you are Marko, Troy or maybe Henk.
That last episode was a really great conlusion of the show. So many great duets there. One of my favs is "Vivo per Lei" with Henk and Emma. I compared it to many versions with Andrea and female guest singers and I think Andrea and Emma would be my favorite combination. Emma does a really great job there, bringing the lightness, freshness and emotion that the song requires. Sounds great with Henks rich and full voice, but I miss that little distortion that Andrea Bocelli brings in with this song, which makes it even more emotional. That's complaining on a really high level though :-)
Another great duet is Emma and Rolf doing "Pa Olvidarte". That one is just fun to watch and you start to wonder what was going on behind the scenes :-P
Yes. They do a great version of "Vivo per Lei". Highly recommended. I really enjoyed it. Emma is more of a pop singer, but her performance in this is beautiful and very endearing.
"Vivo per lei" was the biggest surprise of the season to me..
I second (ehh third or fourth) that request. Vivo Per Lei brought me to tears. Even more than The Phantom! It also brought Floor to tears as you can see in the recording.

@@ChrisPage68 It's all up to her.. as long as she doesn't get "lost" in things she can get huge. But not all brilliant singers and nice people get famous unfortunately.
Tim Akkerman doesn't only sing in a higher key, he also has much better pitch control than Bradley Cooper. Cooper wasn't exactly spot on with all his notes.
And about Tim only supporting Floor a bit: it might simply be all he has to offer. If I remember correctly Marko Hietala (bassist and singer of Nightwish) once said that Floor is the first singer where he doesn't have to hold back on harmonies. Because whatever he does, Floor will be able to outsing him anyway.
Yep.. I think he just didn't have enough voice power to keep up with Floor. Perhaps the sound engineer had to set his mic louder.
One thing about Bradley Cooper not being exactly spot on might be, that maybe he does not use autotune? Is it even possible to be off pitch with it? In this Beste Zangers show I believe they used it to everyone. Even Henk sounds too processed and little weird, so does Floor's straight notes. I'm not expert, and I would be happy to wrong with this, but there is something that doesn't sound right in many of these performances.
@@oo.llpee.7457 Ah, the autotune rumour again. Sorry, but even I can hit notes better than Bradley Cooper. At least what I heard from him here in this video, maybe it was just a subpar performance. And I'm nowhere near the level of Henk Poort, Floor Jansen or Tim Akkerman.

I'm not a singer, nor have I ever wanted to be, but voices fascinate me and I love seeing voice teachers and coaches react to my favorite artists. I've learned a lot doing so but this channel is something else. The way you point out techniques and show the effects again and explain it all is really interesting! Thank you!

I think: Tim realized he had a timing problem, Floor was running ahead of the instrumentals to stretch the notes, as divas do. He couldn't exactly predict it so shifted to safer harmonics. Remember they have very little time to practice, they shot 2-3 shows per day.
You really should watch Floor in her youth perform in my opinion her most beautiful performance, After Forever - Essentric live Pink pop festival
Love your Floor and NW reactions....you GET it!! I'll also 2nd the suggestion to listen to Tim sing Nemo for Floor. Because of time constraints on Beste Zangers he sped-up the tempo and Floor really enjoyed it.
I think the faster tempo suits it. I'd like to hear NW do it that way.
Yes, they performed both songs in the same episode.This was the last episode, which is always the duet episode. Each singer chooses a song and a duet partner to perform the song with. Tim chose this as his duet, The Phantom was Floor’s choice. Henk chose Emma to perform Vivo per lei with him. Not sure if you have reacted to that one yet, but if not then you definitely should, it’s breathtakingly beautiful. The Phantom was the very last performance, i.e. the closer of the season. What a way to close the season!
Floor & Tim must have given Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper many sleepless nights with this live performance.
Gaga loved it.
Cooper is an actor. He knew he was not going to be the last or best to sing this.
Gaga wrote it. A songwriter wants to know her work will go on after her.

Hello Christi (again) -- I knew and was sure that you still have this performance on your radar - and rightly so, as it turned out once again... For me, it's definitely a better musical realization than Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Floor and Tim are thoroughbred musicians and they both know what they can do. Therefore a complete one step higher in key -- that certainly didn't hurt the performance and they both obviously felt more comfortable with it.
However, Tim also ran the risk that Floor would cover him with her vocal power - which is why Floor slowed down noticeably, at least up to the bridge piece. But it is exactly in this bridge piece that she loosens all reins. At first sight I thought: ok, now Tim is eaten, when Floor gets up and puts the chair aside.
But for me this was again an extraordinary good performance of both, which doesn't need to hide behind "Phantom of the Opera".
Well done again Christi. Great analysis. This was a great performance, but I prefer Floor's fragile solo version which she sang to Emma. At least in Finland's Beste Zangers format they sing half of the day's songs in the morning and the rest in the evening. And the main person of the day plans, in advance, some kind of fun activity (sports, painting, baking!, fishing,...) which they do before the dinner and the evening songs. Those activities are also shown in the program.
Managing Shallow and Phantom in the same show is nothing compared to the variety she goes through in a standard Nightwish live show. Treat yourself to "Showtime, Storytime", "Vehicle of Spirit" or the new "Decades - Live in Buenos Aires" DVDs to see what she gets through over a couple of hours. You'll recognise a lot of the songs from reaction videos!
Yes it was the last episode of season 12 were we have duets, she did 2 duets there and the last one was with Henk. Thank for u your detailed opinion and sharing experience.
This was from the final episode of this year's Beste Zangers. Every singer did at least 2 songs.
Denise Hofs did a wonderful translation of the whole show (www.dailymotion.com/video/x7mnhr1) , Unfortunately it is not available on UA-cam. Every one of the performances was amazing. The standouts were probably Floor with Tim, Floor with Henk and Henk with Emma, although they were all top notch. Even if you don't react to it, I would highly recommend watching it!
You have to react to time rendition of Nemo!!! He sings it to Floor on her spotlight episode! It’s awesome.
They were both in the finale episode, those two duets. Definitely was an episode of duets for everybody.

Hi Christi, if you want to hear a more powerful Tim, try Nemo from the Floor episode of Beste Zangers. If you want raw emotion, try Bring him home from Henks episode.
You last sentence struck me. Did you know, she will be on tour in the Netherlands where she will be performing all these songs one after another... And Henk will be joining her on stage for the phantom if I'm not mistaken.
I like your description of Floor looking like she was going to devour him. When she gets off the chair and towers above him, I was worried for him.
She looked like a great cat (panther, perhaps?) that had her next meal in her sights...

Im not too sure if you're familiar with metal vocals but have you heard many bands of the genre djent? If not, I recommend "uneven structure buds one shot live performance" to react to. He does cleans and screams its sooo powerful and reminds me of something you'd enjoy hearing!!
Apart from Springsteen which someone mentioned, his voice also reminds me a of mix between Chris Cornell and Dave Grohl

Ma'am, you should react to Tim's performances on that show, his graspy voice is so enjoyable to hear. Emma's voice as well. You have good content for your channel just in that show.
For me the best that happened on TV worldwide last year.
And yeah, that full episode (1 hour) was about duets, every duet happened that same day, one after another.
The record 2- 3 shows a day….and stay 5 days on Ibiza (the location) The last show with the duets , Tim dit 3 and Floor 2. Please comment on the other artists to, the all are great.
Wow, that's a lot, didn't realize the production schedule was so compressed.
World, especially the USofA and the UK, try this instead of your "WINNING, WINNING .... CONTESTS". These people cry because of emotions, NOT because they LOOSE ...!!! These guys & girls are interested and respectful towards the other singers. They love giving, yes giving ... They don't think: "How can I beat you ..."
I would like to suggest yet another version of this one, this time from Portugal (with love): Cuca Roseta and Djodje… enjoy!
Tim did a cover of Nemo for Floor in this show. A bit more up tempo but a very good song. Love to see your reaction to that.
Think back on The Poet and the Pendulum, where she has four or five different tone qualities / emotions in the same song, without even a break. I think she has reached a level where she can just switch and sing at will, snap finger: belt, snap finger: opera, snap finger: breathiness and head voice and distortion stacked on each other... hey, why not throw a bit of growling in for good measure (you really need to react to Yours Is An Empty Hope, live at Wembley or on the cruise)... Tim Akkerman performs 'Nemo,' a Nightwish song, for Floor in the same show. It's great, I hope to see your reaction to it!
Why didn't someone recommend Tim's version of Dear Mr. President which he sung for Samantha (on this same show).
If performing Phantom and Shallow within a span of the same episode is interesting, it's even more impressive what Floor can do within the span of the same song! As great as Ghost Love Score was in that respect, there is an even more impressive example - "Wildcard", from her ReVamp days. It's also a part of her arsenal you have not heard before, at least not in the reactions. I think a Floor deep dive might be incomplete without it...
By the way, in a recent interview Floor said the entire Beste Zangers show, all of its episodes, were filmed in only 4 days. And Floor provided the bookends - Vilja Lied was the opener, Phantom was the closer, at least the way they aired.

With more practice They could have balanced their Sounds even better. It still is nice performance, but Floor did dominate in volume... but it is really hard to not be dominated by Floor in volume ;)
I definitely like Tims Dear mister president and his other duets. The last episode was blast! And his take on Nemo was really interesting speed rock version. Very different from original!

Yes Floor was likely much louder at the end than Tim. But this is one of the few performances from Beste Zangers I feel they could have done a better job adjusting the singers volume during production. Mostly it was pretty much spot on, but here it''s like they turned down Floors mic as she kept increasing power, keeping the volume at the same level from start to finnish. The problem however it sounds like they turned down Tims mic equally, leading to him being almost inaudiable at the end.

Floor did wear the same outfit. All duets were done in the same (last) episode. The whole season of Beste Zangers was recorded in only 4 days. So there should even be multiple episodes been recorded on the same day.
You have to review Devin Townsend "kingdom" live emg. The Man is an amazing singer/performer. There is so much to talk about if you review him. Warning, you might fall for him.
That's what we all thought when the music started ramping up, and Floor stood up from the stool... "Oh-oh, oh-oh! Oh my God she's gonna go full Nightwish on him and hurt that poor boy!!" Fortunately she didn't eat him alive like we feared!! LOL! :)

For some reason they had Tim strangely low in the mix. I have heard this song sung with a VERY powerful male voice and a great female singer. It was fantastic.
So, I think Floor would be a great actress in that she can mimic any language she wants. It must be a little harder to sing to match sounds and tones rather than words you're used to singing.

I got his album Lions Don‘t Cry some weeks ago, which is very solid, rocky and pleasant. Didn‘t know him before the show, but immediately likes his tone and attitude.
