Henk said in the show that when he lived in Italy, there was a guy that, knowing he was a singer, said that he should go to the next village where there was a guy singing in a bar every night and he thought this man was really good. So Henk went to this bar and there he met the singer, Andrea Bocelli. So this was a special song for him, too.

Was a nice story yes.. but Bocelli was famous already when Henk lived in Italy. It is possible that Bocelli did play in his father's bar for fun, but not the way Henk did make it sound like it was a kid playing piano etc, they are almost the same age.

It’s sad but I agree that a show like this wouldn’t work in the U.S. There’s no craziness, no tension or drama. Watched Besta Zangers because of Floor & ended up loving all the artists. This performance was one of my favourites. It’s such a beautiful song. Artists supporting artists, what a concept!
They spend a week together with each day one of them in the centre with the host. The duets are done at the end of the week and you can see that they have grown closer to eachother

That's for different kind of program, but I think most people don't want to watch a serie of that kind of program
At the end Emma said Thank YOU to Henk and she means it. You see in his eyes that he is proud of here doing this performance so good. That is what love is about, being proud on somebody who is doing good.
I am a fan of Nightwish and of course stated watching Beste Zangers videos because of Floor. I soon realized that all of the other people on this show are talented in their own ways and I was really surprised by how they were all able to take different styles of music and adapt them to their own style. I mean Rolf`s version of Hotel California is fantastic and Henk Poort used a distorted voice when singing to and with Floor a no no for a classical trained singer. The biggest surprise for me was Emma. I will admit that I judged the book by its cover and I expected little from her when I found out she was a You Tube cover artist and had little to no experience performing live. Oh boy was I wrong about that. When sang Strong to Floor and brought tears to her eyes I knew then that she is a special performer and I hope she gets signed to a contract that gets her airplay all over the world.
She did get signed although I do not remember to what label. If you go check out her channel she has some new material up. There are actual Music Videos that did not happen for her until after she got signed. The rest are still her sitting on her stool in her room, like normal for the channel. :)
that's the very surprising thing of this show every time. There is a group of singers with different background singing together or solo but never their one song. There is a tradition in the Netherlands with shows like this even live like holland zingt hazes and Amstel live. Artist joining together so perform
Each artist had to pick someone from the group for a duet. Henk surprised them all by picking Emma, who comes from a completely different world, musically. He did the arrangement, coached her in Italian, and they hit it out of the park. No wonder he looks so proud of her.
He saw the talent and the soul.
And has no interest in ever suppressing what she brings uniquely to the stage. Which is a lot.
That's why older artists are of such immense value, they've got that coaching skill. Henk is doing what Tony Bennett or Dolly Parton has done through countless duets. Making young performers confident geniuses.
i watched the show for floor and this ended up being my favourite performance. its stunningly beautiful.

This one really did get me. I like a LOT of what happened for the 2019 season but not all of it. I really hate to play favorites, so for me it's hard to say 'rank least favorite to most favorite' or 'worst to best'. But this one is definitely up near the top, after Phantom.

As uncle Henk says: Good music is good music ... regardless of genre, language etc.. And these lyrics and these performers certainly shows that. I also love this show btw. It's just so cozy and relaxed, and it warms my musicians heart.

For Emma to hold her own amongst vocal masters like Floor and Henk is truly incredible. Her voice is so beautiful, so colourful… full of light and shade. This duet is one of the best I’ve heard… ever. Henk really almost nurtured Emma through this. They complimented each other so well. Honestly, if people remove the bias of knowing that Emma mostly does covers on UA-cam they’ll admit she’s amazing.
You should do a reaction on a duet from a couple years ago on de Beste Zangers.

All great performers, yes.
Not only Dutch. We have the same show in Denmark, where it's called "Stjernetræf" (Meeting of stars) once a year. It's basically national stars honoring each other by interpreting each others songs and singing them back to their creators. One star is in focus each episode and then there is this duet episode in the end. What makes it great is that the singers are very set upon getting and giving recognition. And it is always a mix of genres and generations. What I most love in the song is the way Henk is clearly so proud of Emmas performance.

@@cvb6089 We also have this in Sweden, really wonderful concept that brings out some truly great songs and which is generally pleseant to watch and listen too.
In this show there are no Ego's involved. They are on an Isle In Europa together for more then a week and record all this performances. And they make a bond forever.

I'm sure this has been mentioned in the past but Beste Zangers is a double entendre meaning both best singers and dear singers (used as a salutation in letters)
When the show is recorded, the singers and the band will stay together in Ibiza for over a week. That's why they are so tight!

Thank you Christy for paying attention to The best singers 2019 again. I was not aware that you had not commented on this duet by Henk and Emma before. This duet is so wonderful to watch and especially to listen to. I also really appreciate that you praise the band so much. This Marcel Fisser Band consists of Dutch top musicians who can really play anything. Marcel's son is already a phenomenal drummer, but too young to get a place in the band yet. I loved that you almost cried talking about how the show is about encouraging each other and stuff. Yeah, we need more of that around the world. (they sang beautifuly btw... and Floor
FYI. This group of singers (famous and less famous) spend a week on (I think) Mallorca. Each night one of them is the guest of honor and the other artists sing a song from the repertoire of the guest of honor. Often times a song that he/she wrote him/herself. But it can also be a song that has a special meaning for the guest of honor. On the last night they sing duets together. Floor Jansen already had a following in the Netherlands limited to metal fans and people who saw her perform in a couple of tv shows as the hardrock queen that can also sing opera. But through this show all of our country got to know and appreciate her.

This season was one of the best things I've ever watched. Such a refreshing show without the usual drama or contrived nature associated with reality TV.

In this show everybody wins. Each singer individually, as duet's and us the viewers who can witness music as it was meant to be, enjoyable, moving and without any ego standing in the way of that!

On the show: The producers invite well and less known singers from The Netherlands, but from specific genres or platforms (like UA-cam or TV shows). Or singers who actually are very well known/famous abroad, but not so much in The Netherlands itself. Each episode one singer is featured and the other singers have a day to pick a song from a suggestions list (featured artist's own songs or meaningful songs to the artist) and make a cover version of it. The featured artist will comment and will be asked to pick a favourite, but there's no scoring card as it's not a competition. In the end it's avout encouragement and sharing each other's love for music indeed.
On Andrea Bocelli: where should I start? I think it's easier to check out his Wikipedia page. But I'll give you a few of names of artists he has worked with:
Céline Dion, José Carreras, Sarah Brightman, Dua lipa, Ed Sheeran, Renée Fleming, Ariana Grande, Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige.....the list goes on.....

Like many others, I watched the show for Floor, but fell in love with this song/performance. Next to Phantom, it is my favorite! The same reasons you articulated you love the show is why I also fell in love the show ~ to love and support one another as artists & now friends is simply BEAUTIFUL. Definitely wish we had something like this in the US! If I might say, you exude that same love & heart for music which is why I’m absolutely a subscriber to your channel! ~Don
There will never be a variety program better than that series of Beste Zangers. The group of singers, the band and the stories of each performance were amazing.

Beste Zangers should be a standard worldwide. It is a show that gathers musicians from that country, from different genres. And each week they celebrate one of them. The host and the singer who is celebrated sits on the middle couch, and talk about his career, while the other singers perform songs of them or songs that mean something to them. And the last week is a duet week. Just to have fun. Not a competition, a celebration. They start the show not knowing each other at all, and finish it like a family.
You can see online the Season of 2019, with subs. Denise Hofs' channel made them first, it worths the watch.

as you said, they were close together; they stayed for severall days on a resort in Ibiza for the recordings and no managers etc are allowed to be there; so, they were really spending the days together and grew to be very close and some friendships started; only Tim knew Floor, for the others she was a total surprise as you can see in the first episode when she did Vilja Lied (song) from the Merry Widow for Henk

I guess as a Swedish person, we're used to not boost our ego. We have this show too, our Swedish stats have a own Day and the others do one of their songs. Some change the songs completly, some doesn't. The reactions is the best... Love it. We are stronger toghether, as people, as countrys as planet.

@@Jos_G. I'm not sure we Germans have that attitude. But at least we have that show, as well. It's called 'Sing meinen Song' and it is one of the most enjoyable things on TV. Although most of the time I don't care much for the individual singers, it's nice to see them interact and get out of their box, musically.

Thank you so much, Christi! This song is perfect and speaks to me on many different levels. The melodies, the words and all the key changes are wonderful... I'm not the only one who started to watch Beste Zangers 2019 because of Floor Jansen. I love all of her performances but then I also fell in love with the other ones... and especially this version of Vivo Per Lei.
So, why the song gets me so emotional? This will probably be a long comment. Sorry about that. :-) I felt a need to write all about it.
Let me explain... I'm a Finnish musician and a songwriter. I'm not a professional but I've still managed to get a couple of my songs in an album or two. I always had to compromise a lot and it's all been a very difficult process. One of my regrets is that I wasn't able to study music at any professional level and I'm not good enough at using my voice as a singer. I also lack the confidence and the drive to be the best musician that I could be. Still, I live for her... the music. I surrender to it but I also feel helpless. I feel I haven't done enough and I have let the music down. I would love to have a chance and have the confidence of my skill to let the music truly shine but the motivation is hard to find. When you write a song then all the instrumental parts and the arrangement should serve the song and be perfect for it. Nothing less will do. Sometimes it seems like an overwhelming task and it seems impossible to even start. I love so many different kinds of music and I can't even decide which direction to take with the songs and the arrangements.
Here's another thing and it doesn't really help at all: In Finland it's most important to be humble. We feel it in our veins. Sure, it's a good thing... but it also means that you certainly aren't supposed to say that you're good at anything... :-) It also leads to not showing your skills because then you'd just be "showing off"... and nobody likes that guy. (Only Finnish people might understand). It's very unusual to find encouragement. Even if a person would say that you're good you wouldn't believe it. I hope it hasn't been the same for most people but it has definitely been true for me. My childhood and my time at school were difficult. I have suffered from depression and I'm a highly sensitive person. It has caused me some problems... It's also been one of the reasons why I've left a couple of bands I was in. Music has still helped me to get through everything. Nothing can really describe my love for music but sometimes it can get overwhelming.
Now I'm alone with my music. I don't have to compromise but still... there's not much I can do... alone. Sometimes it all seems just a beautiful dream. It's more real than our made-up world but still remains a dream. That's what music is for me at the moment.
Time and time again it also seems that there's less audience for real music. You know that music can be more demanding but at the same time much more rewarding. There's many factors that doesn't let music to connect. Many of us hear it but do we really understand it? Like it's written in the song "The Sound of Silence" we might be hearing but not really listening. Every word of that song makes perfect sense and it definitely was a song that needed more listeners. I'm so glad the band Disturbed made a cover version of it. There's also this one other song that came to my mind. With a little bit of imagination this song could also be about music itself and it describes the power and the beauty it brings. Music can make us feel and also make us think... In the end it might also make us ask the question: Is there anybody listening?

Yeah Henk italian is pretty perfect, not surprising for an opera singer, but also Emma did it really good, not perfect but really well done for a young singer who don't speak a word.
I remember a lot of american singers in '60 having success singing in a terrible italian, lukely now they are much more professional and take attention to the language too. Also Floor at my ears sounds really good in spanish.

Marcel and crew are SO good. They have helped many an artist to multi-platinum recordings on top of what they do on this wonderful show. No wonder Floor took them on her solo tour (where they absolutely nailed it of course!)
I absolutely love the concept of the show , I have actually watched most episodes with English sub titles.
Great reaction Christi. You nailed it when you mentioned the other singers. This program is very special and I hope one day it will be possible in the US to do something like that with big and not so big stars, whitout pay, but just for the love for music and respect for co-singers (they never met)

This show (the 2019 version) has a special place in my heart. The whole cast was terrific, and I'd feel like I was cheating on them to watch the current season. haha. Music brings out some strange reactions sometimes. ;-)

Indeed it's a special format without competition but with a lot of sharing love for singing. I've been seeing this show since 2009 and it has always been joyful. Yes Christie this show is very refreshing. I’ve seen many episodes and it’s exciting to see the other artists watching from their couches. It seems they are genuinely impressed by the voices and song choices. Great show. USA could learn something here.
Everybody on this show just gave great performances week after week. I still go back and watch many of them. Watch Rolf's version of Hotel California, that will take away the tears :)

Yes, a show like this would never work in the U.S. Honestly, since first hearing this, I can't listen to any of Bocelli's versions. Henk has a voice Bocelli can only dream of having. He actually had a career in opera before doing Phantom. Floor was already famous before this show, but not in her homeland. So the Dutch got to know her through this.
All the singers are acting outside their "comfort zone" and I think that gives us the ( not always) thrill of unexpected singing results.

Loved it Christy! This show is so wonderful. This was one of my favorite performances from the show. I love the harmony interaction and the way the vocal melodies lead into the multiple key changes. So dramatic and emotional. I am a passionate music aficionado as well. A famous man once said "Without Music Life would be a mistake"! I couldn't agree more.

Emma Heesters is the unknown jewel I discovered thanks to this show, this song is a masterpiece. If you are interested in another from Henk Poot I highly recommend 'Noelia', its beautiful not only because he is a master, but he also sang it in spanish and dedicated it to Rolf Sanchez, since this was the song his grandmother sang to him when he was a child. Bring the tissues.

I'm not sure if you can watch the show of "Beste Zangers" directly in the US, but there are complete episodes of every show on UA-cam, with English subtitles. I was always awed by the song itself (definitely check out Andrea and Georgia singing it, totally worth it! The writers are GENIUSES! I can't remember if Andrea wrote it alone or what, but GOOD FOR THEM!!!) and of course Henk and Emma did a WONDERFUL cover (LIVE, as you pointed out)! But I personally never teared up while watching and listening to this until your reaction here! You had me going as much as you were! I really hope that you are okay!
I understand that songs can get emotional (especially on this show) so maybe it's all happy tears here. The entire situation with the show's format really is a breath of fresh air for us over here, you are totally correct! That may be part of how/ why I have cried for other songs on the show. But this one never hit me that way until I watched you react. Of course, I didn't read through the lyrics so diligently as you did. Maybe that was it, I was just missing the point of the song. Floor loved the band (Marcel Fisser band) so much that she hired them for her mini solo tour in the Netherlands.
And the other singers where pretty well known, just not Floor. Metal is, strangely enough seeing how many great bands and singers they have, a big genre there.
The hidden gem of that show. Its maybe the song i have listened the most to 😍
And great reaction, especially with the second pass of the song, since i really can't get enough of it.
Also speaking about the reactions, i always loved Emmas reactions to Phantom of the Opera and wished there would be a version where i can see her complete reaction to it 😄
For the song with Andrea Bocelli, he did a lot of version where the female singers always sang in their native language, here is for example a newer german version with Helene Fischer (2015):

The last show of beste zangers not one of the artists is the central guest star like in the previous shows. The last show is a duet show. All artists choose a song they want to do. So Floor choose the Phantom of the Opera and asked Henk to sing with her. Henk choose this song and asked Emma. For me this shows that he recognized her talent. And that why he looks so proud doing this.
Last month Emma Heesters performed with Andrea boccella in Prague, Czech Republic. This has everything to do with this performance in Best Singers. Which has gone viral. Greetings from the Netherlands

I really loved that season and that cast and the show in general. This past season had some wonderful moments as well. Tim, Ruben & Samantha have released albums since then (Emma as well I believe. Possibly Rolf too). And Emma won "Best Dutch Act 2020" on the Dutch "MTV EMA Awards".
