My wife and I danced to this at our wedding reception. The greatest day of my life and an appropriate song for the occasion. At the time I was in the Army and was a severe alcoholic. The lyrics at the end was the cherry on top because she was fully aware of what she was willing to get into. I’ll never forget hearing her cry over the phone a couple years after we got married when I told her my chain of command signed off for me to get help at a rehabilitation center in Oregon. I got off of heroin through the same means to be able to join the Army so she was aware that I had already gone through a withdrawal process. 7 years clean of heroin, 3 years sober of alcohol. Thank you so much my dear Hannah for taking a chance with me. Thank you so much Lou for all of your work I’ve listened to ever since my father raised me with your art. We now have two beautiful children, I was able to successfully transition back into civilian life, and the future looks quite promising. After many love dissapointments, every time I go out and spend a saturday or sunday with my daughters, I finish my day at my appartment listening to this song. And then, I find that life gets so well when the definitive and beloved ones are happy with you by just sharing simple things and you can forget everything when it's spent with them. A day with my daughters is a perfect day.
Perfect Day is the perfect song. Great lyrics, beautiful arrangement by Mick Ronson with just the right nuances and Reed's somewhat haunting and ironic vocals with a twist of the sardonic. A wonderful track with some very powerful lines
Always seem to play this song at the end of the day when I feel sad and long for my youth and all my friends who are all dead and gone. Even though I never wanted to be thirty, I somehow always thought I would indeed have all my friends with me when I got older. I will be 66 next month and it is just me and my cat. But 30 years off heroin/coke/benzos/barbiturates/booze. Got this album in '74. Thank you Lou for being on the planet with me.
I am listening to this song in honor of My good friends mother who passed away last night via overdose, Rest easy Gina theres no more pain for you on this earth.
I'm sorry ❤ I just bought it on iTunes. It makes me laugh.. Lou Reed often has these lines in his lyrics which are unexpected or like afterthoughts. In this it's where he says they had dinner (?) and a movie, then adds "and then home". Other songs would have some amazing, mystical thing that happened but not Lou and his girlfriend (or whoever). They went home.
This song was instrumental in my journey getting over a relationship with a manipulative narcissist and eventually finding my way back to myself. God bless Lou Reed for this one!
This is such a clever song. From the lyrics describing a mediocre life that's not too downtrodden but subtlety sad. Firmly hammered in by the chorus. Not only by instruments but by a slight voice break indicating a hidden struggle. Perfection.
It is indeed a clever song that combines a bright, upbeat melody with melancholic lyrics. The juxtaposition creates a unique and compelling listening experience, and the slightly strained vocals in the chorus do add to the emotional impact of the song. It's a great example of how music can communicate complex emotions and experiences in a way that words alone cannot.
Haven't heard this since Trainspotting. Cheers to you Lou Reed. What a beautiful, clear, voice. Not pushed or changed to make it louder or uglier. So rare these days. (those days too).
Hah, that was roughly 7 centuries ago now, right? Are you in the UK? I thought that since you left this 6 hours ago, perhaps you were listening to this upon rising, too. A 6h-old comment in a sea of 2yr+ comments--just had to answer this one.
Rip. Zio lou❤️
Its insane how much respect and humbleness, as well as emotion can come from a song you used to barely hear, suddenly becomes a focal point of everything u needed in such a small moment.
Yesterday I watched "Perfect Days" (a japanese film from 2023) and this song is also reminded there... each day is a perfect day... thanks God for each day under this Sun and this Heaven
This song makes me so nostalgic for being high on blues, but also having a pocket full of them. Knowing you’ll be good for at least a few days is a beautiful feeling. Then the end of the song hits and that’s what ultimately is waiting for you.
Aha, ok I thought you might have meant dilaudid. Are they prescribing it as medication assisted treatment for heroin abuse? (Sorry, American....don't know what yall do up there)
@@andie1508 Yes. But the problem is that the tolerance of many addicts have already been deplected by street fentanyl, so not even injecting those 8mg Dilaudid triangles are enough. It worked for many, but some started selling to buy street fent. In any other circumstance, Dilaudid would be enough to any opioid addict, but not now with the fentanyl disaster. So now they're actually prescribing pharmaceutical fentanyl and sufentanil, and it seems to be working fine.
Spent 5 hrs at two parks with my daughter today.... Most my friends are dead either literally or spiritually and this is a haunting reminder to live each day to its best
Absolutely beautiful. Lou Reed delivers this song in a haunting and magical way. Some of the lyrics are just a bit sinister. "someone good" and "You're going to reap just what you sow" Of course the dark parts make me appreciate this song as well.
There is so much music out there I truly love - mostly the older stuff...but of all those hits, does anyone else get chills down their spine when you hear this song - and other Lou Reed songs? Something about his mood - voice - and instrumentation.

I miss him. I miss David Bowie. Bowie helped so many new muscians get started. Lou Reed was one of them. Love them both.
Finally listening to this song on a perfect day. Unironically. God bless.

I am unable to contemplate how one song can make me so incredibly happy and be the absolute perfect illustration of profound sadness at the same time. This is the power of music. I have a very beautiful memory every time I listen to this song, it reminds me I place where I felt for the first time , that I belong and that I am seen with passionate eyes. It is such a perfect day indeed. Thank u for this masterpiece.

The best new literary style is the UA-cam coment, I can listen to first-person narrarives of what each piece of art meant to each individual person, and that is so inspiring and humbling and rich.
this comment needs more attention! you are so right
Can you believe many official uploads disable comments? Breaks my heart for all of the lost stories
Which is why it’s a travesty most songs on official pages got their comments auto disabled by youtube. It leads us to uploads from other people rather than the artist just to see comments. In other words, fuck you youtube!

We played this at my first sons funeral (20+ years ago). I still listen to it when I'm missing him. Along with Patti Smith (Little blue boy) that was also played.
Sorry to hear of your loss.

It really is Ronson's arrangement and production that make this simple yet eloquent song so powerful.
This song….PURE GENIUS
Lou Reed brought me here
If the phrase “it’s better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all” were transcribed into an emotion-evoking song, this would be it.
What a jewel this song! From now on I'll never have the same look on how goes by a normal day
Honestly, this song is a writer's haven. Melancholy, cheerful, pure joy, or a horror scene. You could write anything to this song.
Perfect Day is the perfect song. Great lyrics, beautiful arrangement by Mick Ronson with just the right nuances and Reed's somewhat haunting and ironic vocals with a twist of the sardonic. A wonderful track with some very powerful lines
The piano solo is so simple yet so beautiful, just pure art.😥😩☺
One of the most perfect songs ever written
Always seem to play this song at the end of the day when I feel sad and long for my youth and all my friends who are all dead and gone. Even though I never wanted to be thirty, I somehow always thought I would indeed have all my friends with me when I got older. I will be 66 next month and it is just me and my cat. But 30 years off heroin/coke/benzos/barbiturates/booze. Got this album in '74. Thank you Lou for being on the planet with me.
Many years ago, I had a Perfect Day with my new wife. We're still married, but her health is deteriorating fast. Perfect days are becoming rarer.

As someone who has been batting opioid addiction for the last 15 years, the lyrics in the song speak to me so painfully.
Lou was adamant it was not written about heroin.
i hope you are doing well

Gracias W Wenders por hacérmela conocer.
Una maravilla la película Días Perfectos!!!
My girlfriend died on the 17th November and this was my song to her . Rip map 😢
Probably the most laid back, and yet somewhat similarly, dramatic song; anybody composed.
Thanks Lou.
RIP mate.
🇬🇧 🤝 🇺🇸
You're right, it is dramatic. It's like giving in to an emotion as deep and uncontrollable as rage., except inverted into a jaded sadness.
Hope everyone is having a perfect day! ❤

PERFECTION ...is forgetting yourself ?.
It's a great example of how music can communicate complex emotions and experiences in a way that words alone cannot.
think ur reading a little too into it
Its about heroin.
@@nneisler doesn't sound to bright and upbeat to me.

Haven't heard this since Trainspotting. Cheers to you Lou Reed. What a beautiful, clear, voice. Not pushed or changed to make it louder or uglier. So rare these days. (those days too).
Hah, that was roughly 7 centuries ago now, right?

This song makes me so nostalgic for being high on blues, but also having a pocket full of them. Knowing you’ll be good for at least a few days is a beautiful feeling. Then the end of the song hits and that’s what ultimately is waiting for you.
In Canada, they're prescribing Dillies and pharmaceutical-grade heroin for maintenance. It's a better time, my friend.
@D Boy what are dillies?
@@andie1508 Dilaudid. Hydromorphone. A semi-synthetic opioid very similar to H.
This song in that movie just fused together into something amazing, best use of a song in a movie I ever seen.

Something about his mood - voice - and instrumentation.
if you like this you might like my brother music. his name is Stu Morris and 'New Yellow Moon' is a good song by him.
