    Nice video...I just bought an '07 VTX 1300C, and it had carbon-coated plugs and wouldn't idle well. I tore apart the carb and cleaned it up, replaced the spark plugs, and it runs well now. But I'm not confident that I fixed the problem of fouled plugs permanently, and I think that you may have pinpointed the issue. I'll have to look into swapping jets and disconnecting the choke in the future. I live in very temperate weather year round (average highs in winter are usually in the upper 50s at the lowest), so the choke really isn't something that should be extremely necessary to start with.
    Thanks again...saving this vid for future reference.

      When cold. Just give it a few squirts of gas when it crank keep it running till it can idle on its own..about a minuit or so

      Try too use the choke the least you can to keep from fowling the plugs... if you havent used your honda in say a month and it doesent fire right up try giving it 2 / 3 squirts from the throttle and try and start it withought the choke ...every honda 1300 vtx I have modified the choke on has always been a problem since i fixed the choke (it was the problem ) ..now they start right up and run perfect if those of you who have not fixed this problem you can carry some new spark plugs and a plug wrench on you honda this will save you from being broke down and needing a tow over fouling plugs. because of this problem these honda vtx are always for sale cheep when you fix them they are bullet proof and well worth what you paid in my opinion they are the sht

    Just got my 07 1300C, and it runs rich by the looks of the plugs and hefty carbon buildup on the pistons. I just might make this adjustment myself. Thanks for the tip!

    I suspected the chokes on these bikes were a problem. The day after I bought my 1300 in 04 I set the choke like I always have in three other hondas and by the time I got a 1/2 mile up the road the bike was running rough. I misjudged what was going on and set the choke more, by the time I got to work 3 miles later it was barely running. I called the shop and it was taken to honda where they showed me the badly fouled plugs. Of course, it was my fault completely according to them. For the next couple of years, I didn't use the choke at all even through the winter here in Portland yet the plugs would eventually foul. I replaced the carb for another reason and the problem lessened a lot. I'm going to give this a try, thanks for the video.

    At what elevation is this adjustment happening in. I think this was done to the bike I just purchased and it's running super rich at 6000 foot elevation. Here at this elevation we usually lowered the main jet 10% (ish) for optimal performance. Never do we increase the jet size and bypassing the choke is a new concept....? What am I missing? Please educate me! Apologies for my ignorance, been riding fuel injected bikes for the last long time and now just bought an old 2006 vtx1300, back to the carburetor.

    • @verdellparentaaawink268
      @verdellparentaaawink268  4 місяці тому

      The only reason I deleted the choke is because it is a factory defect it leaks when it shouldn't causing it to run rich. I'm at 18' above sea level when i made adjustments and using a larger jet. You can turn your air fuel mixture in 1/2 turn till it gets lighter color on your plugs if you still have the choke push it in as tight as you can get it use a zip tie to hold it their till you make your carburetor adjustment your air fuel mixture will change the color of your plugs black is rich white is lean you want to adjust till the color is tan or a little darker ..adjust ride check the plugs till you get it right then take off the zip tie off the choke if nothing changes your choke is ok if it runs rich you can put the zip tie back on or delete the choke if your plugs are tan or more you shouldn't need choke to start the bike but maby a few shots of fuel from the throttle

    I’m sure I’m just dumb, but can someone please explain to me what the purpose of disabling the choke is? Could you not just leave it connected and not use it? What’s the gain for actually disassembling it?

      My choke is still their it's just disconnected at the choke it shows this in one of my other videos ..the reason its disconnected is fuel leaks past it when its fully connected and pushed in so some are defective...when you disconnect it you need enough fuel to make up for no choke you need a jet kit so it will crank and and run like it has a choke...thanks for your question

    Hi, excellent job on filming and explaining everything in such details. I'm new to carb bikes and my 07 VTX 1300 cranks strong but it won't turn over. New spark plugs, cleaned carb, petcock working good, new battery, all fuel and vacuum lines in good shape. On the same day bike ran good before stalling have tried everything but no luck. Can a bad float needle valve cause this problem? Thank you in advance..

      Check for spark...check the rubber diafram on the throttle slide..check the accelerator pump..check the intake to carb seals...spray fuel or starting fluid in carb and see if it will start over that will tell you if you have fire at the plugs ...pull a spark plug and see if it is wet that will tell you if it is flooding if it is it could be float needle or float ...check the vaccum hose to the fuel petcock without vaccum it will not deliver fuel to the carb..it could be a lot of things you have to troubleshoot and eliminate posible causes till you figure it out..once the are running right they are one hell of a bike..thanks for watching and commenting

      Thats usually kills these bikes to much fuel,,the 1800 and the 1300 starliner has fuel injection but the vtx is carburetor,, harley used the same type carb proubly a better type kehin carb they are very similar but different,,the problem is the enrichment needle( it looks like a float needle too me) anyhow with the choke knob all the way in it does not seat and shut the choke all the way off giving too much fuel at idle and flooding the plugs even with stock jets,,the jets are too small to start the engine without choke in hind sight you could put new plugs in leave the choke in and give it 2-3 shots of gas from the throttle and push start it should crank and idle ,,increase throttle till warm enough to idle without lugging,,the way I did mine was put the choke spring behind the enrichner needle to push it against the needle seat so that it did not leak and put it back to gather leaving the cable disconnected then I put a 60(pilot)low speed jet in and 200 (main)high speed jet then with the special d shaped tool I adjust the idle enrichment screw 2 turns and have my idle set at 780 rpm,,It can set a month and all I have to do now is turn the key on and push start,,if it doesent start right up and idle I give it 2 shots of gas from the throtte,,when it starts and idles I increase the throttle enough to keep the engine from lugging (950-1150 rpm) give it about 5 min. Or so till its idling at specified rpm on it's own withought giving it throttle

    question ,i had recently bought a 03 vtx1300 and went through the fluids and when i changed my coolant fluid i had to remover the tank and noticed my fuel valve would not shut of so i will have to replace the petcock but is there any disadvantage of having it stay on all the time??? besides when i need to remove the tamk its a pain trying to cap the petcock! thank you,also previous owner installed the cobra pipes so you think maybe the 200 main and 58 pilot was installed ?? im know it had to be rejeted!

    • @verdellparentaaawink268
      @verdellparentaaawink268  3 місяці тому

      The petcock works by vaccum when the bike is running it let's the fuel flow. when not running the fuel should not flow. You should check the vaccum hose going to the carburetor for any leaks . The jet size 50/200 sounds right for the cobra exhaust I am running a 58/198 later I will change the 198 to a 200 jet size

      It may be getting too little or to much gas..I would check the spark plugs and see how the are burning...bright white means running lean..if they are tan or charcoal colored and it's a stock motor I would think it's the choke causing the problem...the choke on these carburator bikes does not shut off all the way ..in my opinion it is a defect that's why I deleted mine ..and jet kit it to give it enough gas to start it withought choke..I would try a new set of plugs first and take it for a test run and see if it changes any thing...thanks for asking..these are nice bikes when running corectly

    • @verdellparentaaawink268

      Also it could be the vaccume slide in the carb has pin holes in the rubber diagram that was the problem with my friends bike it would idle but wouldn't take the gas when you hit the throttle...also tighten the carb to head intake manifold clamps it may be sucking air...it could also be the rubber diagram in the fuel petcock check this by pulling the fuel hose off it should not leak gas unless it's running you can put pressure on the vaccum line and the gas will flow

    • @verdellparentaaawink268
      @verdellparentaaawink268  Рік тому +1

      Also a bad throttle slide rubber vaccume dioafram will make the bike seem to be bogging down when you open the throttle up this is located under the top cover of the carb it's good to check all the rubber dioafram in the card and fuel petcock it could be lots of things causing it to bog the carb has a fuel screen where the fuel line connects to the carb the screen slides into the fuel inlet and then the hose slides over that it could be dirty also..if you have used reserve and have sludge or trash or water in the tank that can get into the filter...water in the carburetor fuel bowl will cause bogging unscrew the drain to clean it ...it could be lots of things but the things I listed where some of the things I have ran into most frequently

    • @verdellparentaaawink268

      I would set the a/f screw at 2 turns and replace the fouled plugs,,start the bike with no choke if it does not start right up,, twist the throttle 2-3 times to get some gas in the fuel bowl try again,,you may have to disconnect the choke some times the choke stays on a little bit to much and theirs nothing you can do about it, they can be a problem that's why I disconnected mine,,just disconnect the cable from the carb make shure to screw the plastic piece and spring back in the carb,,,adjust your idle around 780 -850 rpm,, do not use the choke to start it ,,its to much gas and will flood. it is a finicky setup

    • @verdellparentaaawink268
      @verdellparentaaawink268  2 роки тому +1

      Also you can use fresh plugs and try the a/f setting you have,, try to start it with no choke to see if the choke is the problem,,after jeting you will never have to use choke ,,, if it doesent start right up and idle just give it a few squirts from the throttle and push start ,,no more than 3 squirts at a time you do not want to flood the plugs

      I had trouble understanding the guy as well and i lived in the US all my life. He sounds like a backwoods hillbilly but i turned on my captions and was able to make out what was said.

      Re jetting will only make it run richer try some new plugs try not to use the choke too much when cranking too avoid flooding if it's still running rich you may need to go up on the jets one number and delete the choke
