Scotty what do you think about the 2007 camry xle v6 would you buy one are stay away from it
Scotty how’s your summer?
The ecoboost is garbage right? I remember when they first came out you had to drop the motor our to change a sparkplug! I'm a logger and the ecoboost changed the Ford loyalty of many logging crews in my area.
I would like to see a head to head on the minivans
I don't know what could be in it for Honda to merge with a junk yard.
A Highlander is like a good high school geometry teacher, boring as hell but shows up every day for 40 years and gets the job done. I drive a Highlander.
Lol
I love my highlander.
Nice to drive and so well thought out.
Apart from its obvious reliability.
Well said you truly have a way with words 👍👍👍
I drive one too. Haha this is so on point
And our 2007 is our daily driver with 217,000 on the ODO.
85% of Ford Explorers made since 2000 are still on the road...the other 15% were able to make it home.
Our ‘17 Explorer is still going strong with no problems
2000 v8 going strong as well
2004 V6 uhh.... sitting pretty on the driveway 😬😬😬
2006 v6 driving like brand new
🤣🤣🤣🤣
2007 Highlander 4WD with 280,000 miles and still going strong.
Remember: "Oh, what a feeling!"
Yep, that's me.
I hear nothing but good things about the 2007. I just bought one for family vechile aka wife and kids Got it in December has 180k on it but everything seems solid so far at least 🤞
I had a 06 highlander and man that thing was a beaut! Sucks that I lost her in an accident but she saved my life from an inattentive driver.
Might have it another twenty years. Lol
Yeah, but are the newer ones as reliable?
Highlander is far more reliable. My 2008 highlander still runs great on factory original parts at 350k+ miles
Amazing vehicle
"Highlander is far more reliable."
Source: Dude trust me
You are doing something right...taking care of maintenance and using factory parts make a big difference.
Jesus. How u put that many miles on it already
@@jimsmith8797 he probably use the car for delivery jobs
My last 3 cars have been Highlanders and none have ever left me stranded. Undeniable quality and longevity.
Question ..."your last three cars.." can I ask why you got rid of them?. Also any serious problems..engine transmission etc? I'm in the market for a SUV, very hesitant..a lot $$$.
Seriously Scotty, the quality of these mini-documentaries is up there with TV quality. Like something you would see on History Channel or something. Great Job man.
Every time Scotty says to avoid this Toyota like the plague my heart skips a beat.
Well at least it was just one year, overall the Highlander is better than the Explorer which has problems with more of their year models.
@@VintageCars999 which year was it. I have a 2017 highlander and I thought he said it was alright. But I skipped through and maybe missed something.
@@eyepodoblivion1189 I think 2015 had some issues and I also read 2003 has the worst complaints. You could Google them and see but I think you are safe. Even if you did have the worst model year it all depends if your particular vehicle has those issues.
@@VintageCars999 it just not one years, it is more. yes Scotty is correct there are some years it was very reliable but some years they were not. Even the 2019 and 2020 have transmission problems.
I got a toyota highlander 2019 non hybrid because of you Scotty
We got a 2020 highlander non hybrid for the same reason. It has been a pretty impressive vehicle for the last year. Looking forward to many more years.
@@AD-sp5cv I plan on keeping it longer than 10 years and will never have the expense of having to replace a hybrid battery. Also never worry a day about having 2 systems to upkeep.

Always bought Ford but I'm switching to Toyota, quality of vehicles are so much better!
Should've got the 4runner 😄
i agree, ive had to rebuild my engine twice within the year.
There's no comparison

Love your videos Scotty. Keep up the amazing work!!!!
I have a 2013 and 2018 Highlander. Both excellent vehicles and pull a 4000# boat with both. I was a Ford and GM owner in the past. I switched to Toyota’s as I had major reliably problems with my last GM and Ford vehicles.
I loved my 1981 Ford F-150 with the 300 straight 6, but I went with Toyota since 1990.
Different times.
Unfortunately ford, GM and Chrysler didn't keep up and became cheap and nasty.
That 300 straight six was nearly indestructible, That is why Ford stopped making it.
What was wrong with you're 81 F150.
I had a 2001 Explorer Sport and my mom had a 2002, both were the 2 door smaller version and did not have the same problems as the larger Explorer of the same years. My cousin bought the 2001 and it is still going.
Afternoon Scotty! Always love the information from these videos, watching from Houston, TX. 💪
hello and thank you!
I loved my 94 explorer, perfect size for an SUV, super comfortable, and the worst problem it ever had was a faulty button on the dashboard. I wish I had never let it go.
I had a 1994 also , I liked the size, comfort and the 4.0 had good power and I got 24 MPG highway
The bad , twice the cheap 4X4 system broke, once almost causing a serious accident, the overdrive stopped working at 180K
Then at 200K a plastic idler pulley failed on the engine belt system causing catastrophic engine overheating and engine failure.
It was my last ever Ford.
@@paulcoenen7918 most people don’t expect the cars to perform well at 200k miles.
Still have my ‘96 explorer
Willing to bet there is still more 5th generation explorers in auto shops than 1st generation highlanders
I would not take that bet, I would lose.
When Jurassic Park came out when I was 14: I WANT AN EXPLORER!!
Never had a 1st generation but had plenty of excellent 2nd gens when I was older. Was always easy to work on when it had issues and cheap to find parts.
Edit: given the 92-98 explorers were basicly Ranger powertrains, they were very reliable.
I like old chunky SUVs because they were actual Sports Utility vehicle while basically all the new SUVs are just big luxury cars with a big trunk
Suv's are basically station wagons on stilts........
We chose the 2017 Highlander non hybrid. We’re very satisfied with it.
Toyota Highlander due to Toyota's proven reliability. We own 4 Toyotas at present! 👍🇨🇦
Scotty. Bought a 2016 Highlander new and love it. Have the issue with the radio you mentioned for the 2015, but found once I replaced my iPhone lightning cable that plugs into the radio’s USB port the issue went away. So glad to see you say it is one of the best years as I love the thing.
Purchased 2009 Highlander Limited with 125,000 miles in 1/2020 - made in Japan. Love it and still going strong with 134,000 miles. My son is a Toyota mechanic so that helps too just in case.
Lol you only drove 10k Miles?
Toyota mechanic? Those exist?
We have the 2020 hybrid xle and I love the instant speed on the freeways as well as the cornering! Taking bumps and potholes like a champ to. She gets lots of compliments.
Boufht a 2018 Highlander for my wife. We've had it a few months and it's been nothing but good to me.
Have a good weekend Scotty!
thanks you too!
A month ago, I had a Toyota Highlander as a rental car and I liked it a lot.
Toyota Highlander is our favorite because we had a Ford Explorer back in Jan 2006 when we were moving from the East Coast to Denver & U-Haul REFUSED to rent to us. Claimed this was due to the massive amount of Explorer roll overs & that Ford had not only blamed Goodyear but had also blamed U-Haul anytime it happened to occur when someone was towing a U-Haul.
We ended up having to rent a Ryder truck AND a tow package so we could tow our Explorer behind the rental truck. If not we'd have had to sell our Explorer because I had broken my leg in multiple spots & couldn't drive, my husband had to.
So yeah, Highlander for personal accountability & the fact that knock on wood it's never left our daughter and grand kids stranded
Explorer always out sold hylander because the hylander owners rarely needed a replacement. You just drive them practically forever. The Explorer was a decent vehicle and rugged off road. And the town I wash cars in has a Ford dealership and man for a long time it was every other SUV we washed. A lot of town folk leased them also so they had a brand new one every 2 years.
We had a 94 expLODER. I loved that thing! Red leather interior...whole thing was red inside lol
I miss my 93, the longer we owned it the more I liked it. My wife recently sold it to a car restorer. We still own a 95 in running condition but I liked the 1st gen better.
Toyota highlander, that is what I recently purchased (2021 Platinum). I spent about a year researching for a car and watching Scotty's videos and determined that the Highlander is the best choice for its sexy exterior and interior appearance, comfort, naturally aspirated engine, technology, price and long term reliability as I'm planning to keep this car for 10+ years.
Dude these daily uploads. 4 videos per 24, cant even keep up with them, keep em coming
Scotty I bought a 2020 Explorer back in January, The AC went out after 6 months and Ford took a week to figure out what was wrong with it and fix it.
Funny because I bought a new 2021 Explorer Limited in March of this year. In May, when I started to use the AC, it was blowing cold air only on the passenger side. Took two separate trips to the dealer and about 10 days total for them to figure it out. Plus they do not have enough loaner cars to give out. We had leased 5 Honda Pilots in a row (every 3 years starting in 2005). We decided to switch it up and go with the Explorer, we kinda regret it. Though, the Explorer is a very good looking vehicle.
That's precisely the type of problem that I would prefer to avoid.
@@pb39374 why not buy Hondas?
I had a super duty where the ac did not work correctly. They said it was fine I told them I have other trucks This one is wrong,They told me it was because the truck was a dark color (blue vs silver). It was a pita to talk to them to fix. Eventually got the manager who knew I was a business with several trucks. And magically the ac was substantially warmer than should be. Dealerships lie thorough their teeth. It’s a joke
@@hadleycontractor496 Told you it was because it's a dark color! What a bunch of nonsense. I'm sorry that happened to you!
I had an explore for a while worst car ever bought. Then 02 Hilander was probably the best car I ever bought. Now driving 08 Hilander limited, and love it. Explorer was four-wheel-drive that did not work. Hilander’s are all wheel drive and work great on the hills and dirt roads towing trailer with heavy loads.
Both new seem pretty decent but if u going used go Toyota😎

Evening Scotty!! My parents own a Ford Explorer & I’m hopefully going to buy a highlander soon. 👍🏽
Yeah get the Highlander. 10spd ecoboost explorer is crap. The rest of ford's quality is really hitting the fan these days.
How do you make these videos, editing so much time hard work. Ty scotty
2016 Highlander. My wife has one and we love it. Planning on a 20 year + vehicle.
This is S tier content Scotty. Love this channel!
Thank You Scotty! I'm in the market for one of these vehicles now and found it informative. I live in the Midwest where a true 4X4 is a must in the country. Have an older Ranger 4X that's not really a true 4X more like rt rear left front drive no good in the slick stuff and no longer need a pu truck.
Love the first generation highlander and the new one!
Scotty will always be a legend.
Traded in a 2020 Explorer for a 2021 Highlander. It’s not even close Scotty. The V6 and 8 speed is soooo much better than the 10 speed and ecoboost 4 cylinder in the Explorer.
Your first mistake was getting a 4 cyl in a suv
We purchased an "04 Highlander this year with 180,000 miles. So far, no problems except for needing a wheel bearing replaced when we bought it. We love it.
I love my 2015 toyota highlander xle with 46, 000 miles, it was my first car I bought brand new. I plan on keeping it for a long, long time. ; )
Oh the days when Ford still cared! Miss those days. Highlander is just great
We love your channel Scotty 👍
Ford explorer!!..I have a 1999 mountaineer 4.0 with 265,000 miles a 2004 xlt 4.0 explorer with 288,000 miles and another 2004 eddie bauer 4.0 with 286,000 and just came back from Florida from Indiana pushing 90mph the whole way!!! That's 2000+ miles!!
Hey Scotty, I finally listened but not after I had spent $2500 replacing an oil pump on my Sierra 1500 Crew Cab with 164 000 KM on it. Six months later check engine light came back on and all the GM dealership where I've always serviced the truck since I bought it with 53 000 KM was to clear the codes and use thicker oil to maintain oil pressure. I got rid of that lemon and moved on to something reliable and slick. I got a 2018 Ford F150 FX4 V8....what an amazing drive and thanx for the words of wisdom 🙌 😀
2016 Highlander AWD bought 2yrs ago only putt 10k miles so far love it
I love our 2013 Explorer. It's been perfect.
There is a real problem when people accept $40,000+ for a car or truck unless it is a work truck or high line sports car
100%
The argument for the hybrid is in saving money on gas, but it’s a fair criticism. Personally I’d either go fully electric or fully gas powered. Less can go wrong, even on reliable models.
Great Powerful message inspiration now to all new driver and non driver to know things now.
I drove one of those the other day, and I love it. I'll be getting one in a few months 👍
I had some early (‘92 - ‘96) leased Explorers with V-8’s that I loved. You could stomp on the accelerator pedal on the highway on-ramp and get into in-city Interstate Highway traffic with ease.
These are the best Scotty videos.

Love my new Highlander Platinum AWD…love it
I owned the second generation Explorer and I loved it. The only thing that the seats were not comfortable. I test drove the Highlander and loved it even better.
1992 Ford Explorer was a beast
My family owns a 2007 highlander v6 everything works and feels sturdy with over 205,000 miles
I liked it better when the Explorer was a trim package on the Ford trucks. We had a ‘72 Ford F100 Explorer 4x4 with a 360 V8, 4 speed in mustard yellow, when I was a kid. My second favorite truck my dad owned back then.
I still have a 77 F150 with the Explorer package. Two wheel drive with 400 cubic inch V8. Rides very smooth! Better than my Explorers.
Whats you're first favorite truck then.
Those 3rd gen Explorers and Sport Tracs with the V8's were an excellent overall vehicle. One of Ford's best shots at making a solid all-around vehicle.
We love our 2016 Highlander 130k and no problems!
Hands down The Toyota Highlander!🤙😁
Well now I have a 2006 Ford Explorer and it turned over 279,909 miles on it and it has the 4 6 liter V8, and it is the very best and the nicest vehicle that I have ever had!!
My grandfather got a 2006 also but a V6, used it for towing a boat, RV and random junk cars. My grandmother drove over a curb smashing a sign with it (fine slight crack on bumper grandfather put screws in to hold it and still is together😐) My aunt drives it now and recently had a hose explode and drove it home overheating the entire way stopping a few times. Seemed bad at first, but next day filled with water fixed hose and drives like nothing is wrong. Ford dealer inspected it all green marks.. These things are hard to kill
@@NickNembus The older ones are literally bulletproof. I would buy an older one over a newer one. Plus, those Ford seats.....
@@cdos9186 I would go for a mint condition lower mile 2010-2011 with a v8 for sure. Got a 2010 v6 Escape myself It's pretty much the mini me version of it lol. My mom liked it so much she got the same one.
Ford's 4.6l v8 are very reliable, bulletproof engines.
@@NickNembus Oh wow. I've heard the newer ones are nothing but problems. Also funny how I like the 2002 - 2005 Explorer a lot yet they have problems with the transmission. Someone on UA-cam doing a review / walkaround said their 2003 Explorer lasted 140,000 miles on the original transmission and then they loved the vehicle so much they got it replaced and it is still going 250,000 miles later. Probably will get one with how much I like them. My dad had a 2003 Ford Windstar with 186,561 miles that was still going before someone involved in a hit-and-run ran the stop sign and caused a second hit-and-run with the front of the Windstar causing it to be totaled. I've never sat in a vehicle with better seats than that Windstar did. All newer vehicles are just too stiff with the seats.
2019 Highlander Limited....been running great. No problems. Just keep up with the maintenance. I change the oil tween 4k and 5k miles. Plugs at 60k miles.
Enjoyed the video Scotty sure keeps turning them out. No sure how many people are in the background assisting in these videos. Who does the research, etc? Interesting to know.
There's definitely somebody else doing the writing on these, which is fine. Evidence of it is sometimes Scotty's pronunciation of a word is off, like he's reading a word he would not normally choose himself.
Gotta commend you for using “tween”. Whether intentional or not, its awesome and im using it now.

@@eeyyaakk6801 Yes, the memes are definitely current.
He always pronounces hybrid “hybread” in all of his regular videos where he’s just talking and repairing a car. I think he writes these scripts himself. Maybe someone from his old tv show helps him do the graphics.
I remember the first car my parents had in my childhood was a blue Ford Explorer, I was genuinely sad and gave it my respect for serving my family when we put it in the junkyard
I’m liking the 2010 and 2011 Ford Explorer. I’m considering buying one since I drive a 2002 Ford Taurus.
I have a tuned Explorer ST.. Let me just tell you.. fast!! The 3.0 is solid.. Transmission is questionable but I don’t own vehicles very long so not a huge concern. To each their own 🤷♂️
Have one 2 , tuned by Calibrated Power out of Chicago .... 100hp+100tq ... Loved it b4 , love it even more now. Also have Edge CTS3 monitor to keep track of eng & trans. Like u say engine very good. Trans issues are due to "thrashing" -- This one gonna last me a long time.
@@colin6769 give zfg racing a try best tuner out there for the ST. I have a 5star tune right now for 93/e50 it’s fast but ZFG really knows how to tune the transmission the best. Really want to upgrade the fuel pump to run e85
@@jim6807 I'll have a look at em tnx. Actually quite happy with 500/515 and my fuel supply here is limited pretty much to 91 and no high Ethanol , but the trans somewhat concerns me, tho the Calibrated Power tune has much improved it but one can't be too careful with these multi-speed high tech trannys. The Edge CTS3 is great for monitoring (everything). I'll do an intercooler upgrade next.
I love love love my 2018 Highlander SE AWD
My brother’s got my mom’s 2007 highlander. Mom used it as a work truck for 7 years since new, it drove up and down the east coast as well - went from Toronto to Miami in that thing with the whole family in tow. She gave the highlander to my brother at 200k miles. No mechanical issues at all. My brother shipped the highlander to Dubai where he too used it for business. He drove that thing in a dust storm. Besides minor suspension issues, no problem with the car. 300k miles. He brought it back home to the states 3 years ago after he got married. He bought a new 2018 highlander for the family, and to this day he removed the rear seats and uses that 07 highlander as a work truck. The odometer froze at 350,000 miles. Still runs like a dream.
Legendary truck.
Toyota Highlander all day!
Have a 2007 Highlander and loving it. Picked up a few years ago. No issues.
Even pulled several heavy trailer loads over Homestake pass and no issues. 2wd.
Great video. I recently bought a 2018 explorer with no big expectations. I just hope it’ll last without having to spend much money on it
I have a 2018 limited 4 cyl echo boost with 60,000 miles. I bought brand new & havent had any problems .
Our 2012 Highlander has had no major issues, bought in 2013 with 11k miles. V6 AWD model. Radio volume works but a little flaky, overall the best vehicle we've owned. We even took it to Pikes Peak. Considering a 21-22 Highlander to replace it. Amazing ride when new and still good. Michelin tires help that.
Hi Scotty! I recently bought an '07 Lexus LS460 with only 40K miles on it. I got it inspected before buying, and has front strut, control arm & TPMS sensor issue. Should I keep the air suspension or replace it with coil one?
You are so smart Scotty! Good night.
Currently? Highlander. Tho ten years ago I would have said Explorer.... I love that 2011 gen.
I'm too poor. I wanted to get a Toyota highlander but could only afford a 2005 rav4 .
I love my 2017 highlander xle. Zero issues
I bought a 2009 Explorer used. Had it 9 years. It was decent. But replacing wheel hubs were costly and the front seats head rests on long trips were uncomfortable. But had decent pickup (4.0L) and gas mileage. Also the turning radius was better than my 2020 4 Runner.
I love my 2012 Highlander Limited! 170k miles and going strong!
Hello Scotty! The second generation highlander has a 3.5l 2gr-fe engine. Producing 270hp , with 5peed auto transmission . And so far it’s the best highlander.
If I was buying a new one I would buy a Highlander however I still love my 2009 V8 Explorer, 200k and still in great shape.
Hi Scotty, will you please suggest or recommend if the new Toyota c-hr car made in Japan is a good buy?
I’m a big GM guy so the Ford Explorer is my favorite out of the two. I have a 2011 Ford Edge. My complaints are rust and paint. Besides that any other problems were fixed by recall. Gotta love 🇺🇸 whips. Car drives like it’s brand new though NGL.
Ayyy! Everyone already knows who won this show down!!
And it's the one you don't expect
Ford Explorer all the wayyyyy
Toyota
Proud owner of an 03 explorer with the 4.0l. Bought it at 130k miles for $250 because the transmission was going and that's what scrap value was at the time. 50k miles later and I haven't done anything with the transmission except learn to coax it into 2nd gear with the gas pedal. It's my work truck and regularly carries 1000 lbs of tools and a 3500lb trailer. I've also done some light off-roading and no matter how bad the roads get with snow and ice I always make it to the job, and having a true 4x4 with actual low range comes in handy for pulling trees down. I can't speak to the Toyota but I don't think comparing a full framed SUV to a unibody crossover is a fair comparison.
I have a 2015 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. I have seen the infotainment reboot problem about once a year on average but it's minor and recovers pretty quickly. Overall it's been the most reliable car I've ever owned.
I am running close to 300k miles on my 05 Highlander and it still drives like new!
Nice, don't sell it!
As much as I like the rwd explorer I’d take the Highlander or Lexis RX over everything else on the market. Honda and Acura are solid choices too.

I had a 2000 explorer v 6. I bought it used with 125,000 miles had it . Never had any major repairs best vehicle I ever owned, it finally died though , but it lasted 10 years and had 280,000 in the end!!
I own a 2015 highlander and the radio issue is a free fix you can diy. Just a firmware update available for download. The only issue I have related to this video is the wind noise but I don't mind it at all, it's still more quiet than most cars I owned before. I think the roof rack is the culprit it's kinda like a wing on top.
7:30 I heard that Toyota is going to discontinue the Sequoia in a year or two.
Maybe the Grand Highlander is going to take its place? 🤔

Wife's on her third Highlander. Last one had 252,000 miles. Sold it in one day, great resale value, great vehicles.
