- Greetings friends! We just finished our seventh weekend of work on this cabin. This was definitely
the dirtiest week yet. We really kicked up some dust. But as my dad would say, "dreading it is worse than doing it". We now have it behind us and can move on to the fun stuff.
We are trying to be patient with this winter weather, but we need the snow to start melting soon. We are a bit landlocked in between these huge drifts and need to access the rest of this property. But the days are getting longer and the average temperatures are rising so it won't be too much longer.

My husband & I remodeled the house I live in now...plus together we turned the pole barn into a woodworking shop, heated with air & bathroom...he built a shed over looking our woods..he also built on an attached garage..when I say I it was really him, I was the gopher, finding the tools he laid down somewhere...to get me out of the house - he would say he had to go to the store to get an elbow, of course then we would eat out....After his passing, I found boxes & boxes of elbow's (copper-pvc-gavinized). I had a building built for my 3 Jd's after his passing. You two brings back memories. Great Video's with you wife added, although she was behind the camera (I believe)

Yes, haha. Tanya and I were laughing so much when we were trying to assemble this video. Every clip there Stella was zooming in or out of the frame. I had nothing to relate it to so it was just all new to me. I have fallen in love with the people here though. I just retired early from years of construction and concrete supplies sales, because of a broken leg that hasn’t healed yet.
I have enjoyed watching for a couple months now (I had to bing watch to get current).
I watch with my grandkids so I can talk them through steps and planning. They act like they are having fun too.
I really appreciate the two of to working together on this build, because I use the example to these young kids of the importance of husband and wife’s build relationship as well as home/ remodel.
The boys liked how you explained thing to your grandson when he would help a bunch. We / I enjoy your channel a bunch.

Hello there Hoss P. Loved this comment. My dad was a concrete contractor by trade. He did a lot of flatwork, stone, brick and years of cmu. He made us boys work for him until we left home. We carried hod, stripped forms, set up walls and mixed mud. Hard and gritty work for sure. After leaving home I chose a different trade :). @@ThisIsMyAlaska Thank you for the kind reply...Today will be 85 degrees here in Joshua Tree. It can average 105 for 3 months straight during our summer. We do get snow at times and maybe hit 26 degrees in December/January. We have the wonderful Joshua Tree National Park and there are only two places in the world where Joshua Trees exist, here in what is called the hi-desert and in Israel. Can't wait for the next video!

The two of you remind me so much of my hubby of 45 years and I always finding new projects to work on to keep this 110 year old house standing strong and being intact when the 5th generation is ready to take the reins. Our Grandbabies are the 5th generation to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Watching Gale...hope that is correct spelling....lace up his boots brought back such strong memories of my Dad sitting in his chair, lacing his work boots, and getting ready for a day of hard work on the farm. Sometimes it's those little memories that are so strong. Things are really looking good at the cabin. That sandwich Tanya made looked so good that I had one for breakfast! When I was a kid, it used to be TGIF with Full House and Family Matters. Now, as an adult, it’s TGIF with This is My Alaska. I started woodworking a couple years ago and I am pretty sure you get better, straighter cuts while free handing with that old Skillsaw than I do with my table saw! I hope to one day apply my woodworking learnings to building my own cabin. Just maybe not somewhere so cold………Thanks to you and your wife for the hours of relaxation and enjoyment. If you are ever in Delaware, coffee is on me.

My husband and can't wait until Friday for a new installment. We tinker with home repairs and try to do as much as we can ourselves. We are not on the same level as you but we do learn from your videos and enjoy the easy going relationship you guys have. We like doing things together and have for 36 years. The cold weather is extra challenging and l truly love working and playing in it. More than 50 winters here now and I still love this place.

No wonder the house didn't keep warm! They used very good insulation, but they didn’t use it for their intended purpose and weren’t technologically advanced .. - it’s a shame ..

Gil I have been watching your channel since you originally started your channel you always had me wondering why you would build a home completely out in the open prairie but it is what it is, I got to watch you work on your outside shower and the building you have a good talent you remind me of my own dad who spent 30 plus years doing engineering and carpentry! You never really spoke on your videos unless your grandsons were with you. Then there is Stella what a dog! It has been pleasant to watch your work through each project that you have done. Now that you have brought your wife in on this it really really makes your channel interesting.
Your work is amazing and I see a bit of someone who wants things done right rather than cutting corners

Thank you so much Chris. It is nice to hear from you. And thanks for sharing your thoughts too. You likened this country to the prairie which has me wondering if you are from a prairie region. This is actually up in the high, alpine country though, way above timberline. It is glacier territory. The ground is all rocky gravel and covered with a fragile layer of tundra. There is an abundance of freshwater streams and lakes. We have caribou herds around us, as well as moose. This is also grizzly habitat, so we don't go roaming around in the bushes. The stream to the back of our property is a major salmon-spawning tributary. We see hundreds of fish there each spring. There are also grayling in the stream and lake trout in the lake beside us. We fell in love with this place years ago and have dreamed of someday opening a small b&b type of operation in this area. That is why we are building here now. It can be stormy and inhospitable, but there is no place we would rather be. Peace.
