Those two lakes, side by side, one blue and one green, I just thought I'd let you know their names - the green one is "Lagoa Funda", and the blue one is "Lagoa Rasa". You guys saved "the best for last". Great, great job! You say that Flores looks like the Hawaii, but in the Azores, it is known as "the Switzerland of the Azores".

Yes, Flores does look a lot like the north coast of the Big Island of Hawaii! As for the misty atmosphere, here in Kona it has been very hazy with "vog" from the volcano, ever since the eruptions began in early May. I live high above Kona airport and I can't even see the ocean anymore! This has been going on too long and I hope it stops soon. I would love to visit the Azores one day soon!

The Azores are much better than Hawaii.
When our families came from azores n Madeira to Hawaii to work on plantations.. Hawaii reminded them of their homeland.. So it was easier for them to transition.. One day I will make the trip back to visit..

Many people say that the island of Flores and corvo island are a paradise.
Are the most distant island of the whole archipelago but are the few that the man has not touched.
Or due to the vegetation being very dense and not to pollute the island much and to be an attraction for the players.
I can speak and write a little bit in English but I think I got explanation.
And it's also a pleasure to be able to come to these island and be able to record for all the followers.

I know you guys loved Flores Island, but one of the 3 you didn't get to, namely, Santa Maria (which was the first to be discovered), has some pretty impressive sights, for it's size (3rd smallest). You really would've liked the Baia de Sao Lourenco, and a spectacular lighthouse on a high cliff "Farol de Goncalo Velho". Next month they have a great music festival called "Mare de Agosto".
I wish we could have seen all 9 honestly..

Flores island has the best local cheese , uniflor and very cheap when you buy directly in the factory. In the Faja Grande is where you find a lot of big crabs and sea impetus on the rocks, is 4 seasons in one day. People are nice and give you ride where ever you are going. The houses are cheap to buy, they don't pay water monthly only €5 euros tax per year. The food is so yummy.

I followed your videos and I agree that every island is unique and beautiful. I do have to say that I don't believe you really experienced Sao Miguel. Why, you decided to do your own driving and missed some of the most amazing places. You did the typical tourist sites and didn't spend enough time exploring the island for it's amazing beauty. No matter, really enjoyed watching it and thank you for sharing.
We actually spent the most time in Sao Miguel (6 nights), but I didn't want to vlog every minute of the trip. We did some independent stuff with just our car that I didn't air, as I decided to show the most touristic (and easiest to access sites) to the audience. But yes, I loved Sao Miguel :) And thanks for watching !!

Is Flores a rain-forest?
I've worked in Flores for almost 1 year.
They have an environmental association there fighting to preserve the waterfalls... In Ribeira do Ferreiro they are trying to build a hydro powerplant and that is a danger to the natural beauty of the island. From what I found out the locals are against it but the government and EDA are building it anyway. Please try to help them. Ambiflores is the name of the association. Cheers!

In Portugal, we usually say the Madeira islands are the Hawaii of the atlantic, although the Azores are a special gem. Hope you are enjoying your stay.
As a Portuguese from Lisbon here who as lived in both Madeira and in the Azores (3 years in São Miguel, and several months in other islands), visited all 9 island countless times, I have to say that Madeira being the Hawaii of the Atlantic is an absolute lie, and never heard nobody in the islands or mainland saying that...for as beautiful Madeira islands may be, Azores as always been the Hawaii, New Zealand, Jewel, as you prefer, of the Atlantic...the Atlantic Paradise!

I’ve always said that the Azores are the Hawaii of the Atlantic. They were both made the same way(Volcanos). Such beautiful islands.
I have seen some of the water falls on Maui, on the start of the road to Hana. The videos remind me a little bit of some of the water falls there. Great videos waiting for the surprise from Flores.
I actually want to visit Maui pretty badly now, hahaa.
Jon if you go to Maui you really need to do the road to Hana. There is a CD (well was with technology it may be a download now) that you can listen to on the way that talks about the upcoming sites mainly water falls. There is at least one or 2 with pools that you can swim in. There is also a high point with an extinct volcano and an observatory, drive above the clouds. As a matter of fact there is a tour company that will give you a ride up the mountain to the observatory (top) and then you can ride (coast) a bike back down. On the dry side of the island and south past one of the resort golf courses are old lava fields with the hardened rock. A black sand beach as well. There are other sites, the main tourist area and of course water sports. It is worth a trip. When you have a chance research some of the info and see if you can find partnerships to help lower the costs.

Indonesia also has Flores Island, coincidentally also has THREE colored caldera lakes.
Must be way cheaper than Hawaii.
Our green lake disappeared by lava in kapoho.
I won't even tell you how much cheaper.. you'll cry hahaha.

I saw all sorts of animals on the roads ! Don't remember rabbits specifically.

The Flores island its the most wet of all the Azores islands and the stormy as well. She’s beautiful because have less inhabitants. If you want peace ✌️and beautiful landscapes, Flores it’s that one :). By the way, if you want to visit The tiny Corvo, you can get the little ferry “Ariel” to get there 😜
Aloha from HI. High temps in the Açores in winter is 55°F whereas HI is 82°F. 3900 people on Flores vs about a million on Oahu. Near constant rain in Flores with only windward and mountain rains in HI. Is that a fair comparison? No it is not. Without criticising either place, they are both their own distinct ecosystems.

Eva Lu - The entire Açores archipelago is located in the Atlantic fault. Although the good news is that usually people have historically been safe enough. No big really big deals, too worry about. ;-)
With this said there's some really delicious dishes traditionally cooked on the naturally hot water sources. Advised. ;-)

I have a question, I just booked a ticket round trip to the Azores and no one at Azores Airline can tell me how to book the ticket to see the other islands also. One guy told he it all had to be done within 24 hours...huh? I will be there for three months and need to know how to do this. Thanks in advance for your help.
Call their phone number for customer service. I booked 2 sep tix, one for the in and the out.. and then another itinerary for 4 interisland flights, I found their reps quite helpful on the phone and they spoke english.

So beautiful! From the photo's I've seen of Hawaii, it seems more floral and tropical there but I've never been. Your video shows the scenery to be gorgeous! My daughter vacationed in Costa Rica and showed pictures of giant spiders! Is that ever a problem??

No giant spiders nor dangerous animals in the Azores. :)
The only dangerous thing in the Azores is the food, wine and auguardent. Very safe.

- Regarding "floral", don't kid yourself. This island is called "Flores", which mean "Flowers" in Portuguese. There's a very good reason for that. ;-)
But I admit more tropical and also floral is the other Portuguese archipelago called Madeira (Wood). Also known as the GARDEN OF THE ATLANTIC! ;-)
Now fun fact: The other, Portuguese named island, also called FLORES.
Is in Indonesia and is the place of origin, of the "Hobbits" or "Homo Floresciense". One of the most recent and strange members of the Hominid family. ;-)
yes cause the Azores are not manipulated nearly all the flora there is the original one. the palm trees you see in Hawaii are actually not native to Hawaii only one palm species is native to Hawaii and its a very small palm not the coco nut palms they were brought there by humans

As a regular visitor to the Azores, SATA-Azores Airlines have to be irregular in their schedule owing to the nature of the archipelago. However, these islands are VERY special. The problem is that to see the Flores waterfalls (or any others) you need to arrive after hefty rainfall; because the falls swiftly go dry. If you enjoy a sunny fortnight (as we recently did), there are few streams to create waterfalls; but the scenery is gorgeous. They are definitely NOT like Hawaii, however, because the islands are not situated over a 'hot-spot'; but a series of faults, to the east of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
"The problem is that to see the Flores waterfalls (or any others) you need to arrive after hefty rainfall; because the falls swiftly go dry". Thats not true!!! Did you've been in Flores Island?
Look at their video. Look at the atmospheric conditions. Look at what they are wearing. When we were HAVING to wear similar, waterfalls everywhere! But not this Summer.
I dont need to see the video, i live in Flores Island!! In some Islands the waterfalls dry when does not rain, in Flores Island waterfalls have water ALL, i mean ALL days of the year, every day! And it does not rain every day! I understand that you dont know the reality of Azores Islands but you can came and visit! Please dont talk about someting that you dont know.

Just found out my family is from the Azores. I’m 100% white looking but I’m German, Portuguese, Scottish, and African. Apparently, my African ancestor was part of the Portuguese slave trade. The family left the Azores, and eventually made their way from New York to Hawaii. I always wondered why Hawaii felt like a 2nd home compared to everywhere else I have ever visited. Turns out it’s because it’s identical to the Azores.
Also, it explains why I panic if I don’t live within 20 minutes of the beach. I never knew why I got anxiety if I didn’t live near the beach even though I rarely actually go to the beach. At least I have an excuse now....

I don't know the year round climate, in Summer it was comfortable and a little rainy at times. I'm sure a local can chime in !
