Flores is the hikers paradise. We spent a week on a quest to find our favourite waterfall. It was our ‘waterfall challenge’.
And although arriving in Flores did not go as planed, Flores had definitely some surprises for us in store…

About diariesof
After an epic journey through South America with their motorbike Anabela and Jorge Valente decided to launch diariesof. diariesof is not just another travel magazine. diariesof is a bi-annual coffee table magazine on experiential travelling. The editorial content is prepared by an international team of contributors, photographers, bloggers and independent travellers. Each issue covers one country exclusively. The different sections of the magazine offer personal experiences on adventurous accounts, genuine and independent testimonials, exclusive interviews and reliable evidence on social and humanitarian projects.
More than making the readers travel around the world whilst reading it, diariesof intends to inspire the readers to see the world for themselves. diariesof was born after a crowdfunding campaign launched in 2014.

I was born on this Island on July 5th, 1964. I was born in my grandmothers house in the village of Fazenda das Lajes. The small town of Lajes has the larger port that can accept larger cargo ships on the southern end of Flores. I have been back to visit in the summer of 1991. The people leave because there's no jobs to make a good paycheck. And especially, there's no shopping. All the coffee, sugar, flour and other foods are shipped in from Portugal on cargo ships. This makes the items shipped in more expensive than usual. My father told us that in 1966 when we immigrated to the US that the population of Flores was about 15,000 people. Farmers would get in arguments and fights if your cows jumped onto their property and ate the vegetation on the owners property. Over crowding was the problem with people and animals back in the 60's.
Nice video. 👍 Flores is really amazing.
I enjoyed as well vlogging there 😀

I love this video, Flores is one of the islands we haven't yet visited but now it is definitely on our priority list! Beautifully filmed, thank you!!
Thank you for your kind feedback B Mck. We are happy you put Flores on your priority list, we really think the island deserves it, and so deserve its people, so friendly they are! Enjoy!
Rain in Flores is nice, waterfalls become stronger, I saw some of them twice just bcz it rained a lot during the night. There's paths for the two waterfalls a bit hidden, we prefered to see them from far viewpoints, glad to see you took a guide.
There's also another interesting abandoned village that had a project similar to Aldeia da Cuada but in waiting now. I'm not sure if you went to the top of the island but the views and the wind are impressive, the top have some huge giant moss and you can see the lagoons. Seeing Corvo island in the horizon from the north coast was very nice too, that small island is fabulous.
Great video edit and sound, nice experience!
Many thanks Bruno for watching the video and for your great comment! Yes you are definitely right, after the rain the waterfalls are even more impressive ;) We reckon there are many more beautiful places to be discovered on the island and we cannot wait to go back ;)
Great video about Flores .. keep the good work up

Excellent footage. Just wondering why he was wearing a face mask while climbing or abseiling from the mountain?
I remember that song about Flores when we jammed with Canni after playing an acoustic gig at Ninevan on Faial !

Hi, really nice video!
Quick question. Could you leave your tent on the campingsite? Or did you have to carry it everywhere?
Hi Louisa, we never camped two days in the same place, so we always carried our tent to the next spot. Some camping grounds are not fenced and don't have any one around responsible for them, so it's up to you and how you feel about leaving your things in an unattended tent - I must say the problem is not the locals. :)
@@diariesofThanks for your feedback!

Hi, Love'd to know the location of the hidden waterfall, where you have to climb up with a help of the rope. Thanks!
Hi Lilla, you have to go to the Alagoa camping site (a wild camping site) and from there follow the trail until the beach (only a few metres away). Once you are on the beach, with the sea in front of you, you have to walk to the left side for a couple of metres. You will see there is some water coming from the cliff and that's where the waterfall is located. :)
@@diariesof thanks so much! We'll definitely go and try to find it!
If a lot tourists start coming here it will inevitably destroy the beauty of this place unfortunately.
What are the camping laws there i plan on buying land in flores in a few years but want to take a month or so hiking around flores to find what im looking for and am curious if camping in any open feeled is leagal ir do you have to hunt down the owner and get permission which would be difficult?
There are official camping sites. In some of them you need to pay and others are free. As fro wild camping, as long as you remain discreet and leave in the early morning, you should be ok. But we do not know what the law is. If it is the same as in continental Portugal, wild camping is forbidden, but tolerated in the least touristy places, as long as you remain discreet and leave early.
Can you share the information of your tour guide?
Hi Vanessa, our guide is called Luis and he works for Experience OC. Here is their link: experienceoc.pt/en
Hi, was there an option to check in luggage of big suitcases on your flight to flores? As i plan to travel to lisbon, saõ miguel and flores therefore will need a big suitcase that they check in and store under the plane?
I think so, they encourage passengers to check-in their luggage, as the cabins are rather small :)
@@diariesof brilliant, thank you so much for the reply 😊
Was there snakes 🐍 and leeches etc. on Flores and Corvo islands ???
Hi Vajara, no there are no snakes or leeches in the Azores. There are no dangerous animals in these islands :)
This isn’t Australia after all! And St. Patrick never visited here to scare away the snakes and leeches.😂
