Beautiful video presentation of this garden island with great natural beauty. My grandfather was born in Topo in 1878. I would not describe the Acores as close to the USA in terms of physical distance, although socially and culturally, most of the people of Azorean descent live outside of Portugal and in the USA.
I'm from São Jorge Island and still live there and let me tell you that this was the best video and advices for everyone who visits my island because you show how it is and the " Learn how to drive stick shift " is one of the most important because most cars are stick shift. Btw your video was on my youtube recommendations 🙂🙂
I used to live on this Island . I now live in the USA, but i lived there till 1972 when at the age of 12 I immigrated to the USA. Thank you for the great images and the kind words about my native land.
How cool, you stayed in Phillip's bungalows! We met him when we sailed our boat there a few weeks ago. Anchored between Velas and Urzelina, but Phillip was always there to show us the best parts of the island and let us in on his family meals. 😀 Glad to see other's sharing this beautiful island!
Hey man, you probably don't read this but if you do i have a question to you. Is it expensive to buy a house there or could someone whos not from the azores or even portugal buy some land there?
My husband was born in Sao Miguel the largest island. Several years ago we went there for vacation and toured every inch of that island. I loved it. we cooked our dinner underground, swam in the healing waters and ate all the cultural food. great place. we need to return and visit the other islands now. Thanks for the wonderful video.
When I saw the menu and for sandwiches it said "cheese and butter" and "ham and butter", that reminded me how basic these places are. And they are so, so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your impressions. The Azores, and Sao Jorge specifically, look so beautiful. And it sounds like the people are beautiful as well.
Your Azores series is absolutly fantastic! I found your first video from the Facebook page "I am Portuguese and Proud". I am so glad I found your series.
Again another great video. I like the idea of your playlists, it may be a bit before I can spend some time in the Azores it will be nice to be able to refer back to get the info.
Hi , I’m new to your channel and really enjoying your videos. My wife and I will be going to Sao Miguel in September . Enjoy the rest of your trip and look forward to seen your next video. saoud!! That’s cheers in Portuguese
Good video. I went off the tourist track a few years back in Portugal. Stayed at a university town, Coimbra (pronounced queenbra) which is iinland on a river. My best kept secret.
You were in Urzelina and you didnt visit the church that the lava buried? Also, if you like lighthouses, you missed going to the abandoned lighthouse at the other tip, Ponta da Rosais. Also: Lourais cheese factory and the Santa Catarina tuna cannery.
My paternal grandparents came from São Jorge. My father always wanted to visit but he never did. I'm determined to make the trip with my sister. Thank you for the recommendation on where to stay. I'll definitely check them out.
Great video! Had a great time there in 2017. Visited the cheese factory - love Sao Jorge cheese!! Did awesome hike from the top to the Faja, we were beat the next day. Just beautiful place!
It surprises me that things are cheap in the Azores. I would have thought things would be more expensive since most everything has to be shipped in since the Azores are islands. Mark M.
Not only that.. I was told my a Portuguese guy, he thinks the Azores are cheaper than the mainland.. It's kind of crazy, b.c I think of Hawaii vs Mainland U.S.A.
Many things are imported but many things are produced within the region; Azores produce locally; tea, beer, wine, spirits, wide range of dairy products, fish, meats, cement for building, tobacco, pasta for cooking, cookies, fruits (both cold and warm climate), corn among others. The Azores also produces a very large portion of their electricity using local renewal technologies; geo-thermal, hydro, wave, etc. Due to the relatively low population, favorable climate and quality of soils, the Azores could become self sustainable if it ever became necessary.
my moms from sao miguel. I grew up eating sao jorge cheese, its the best in the world! Sad not to many people know about these beautiful islands. I went to sao miguel once, I want to see the other other eight. cool series btw
Yep, ever since the "Coup d'Etat" revolution of 25th April, 1974, there are strikes for pretty much everything you can think of...... 'cept for festivals (i.e. Sanjoaninas), and street bullfights. Take it from a native son of Terceira.
Great video! My family is from Sao Jorge. We are visiting over the summer. Question about your ivideo pocket wifi. Does it work for iphone? Did you rent it from the Acores, or did you rent it in advance and ship it to the US? And lastly....did you also have to buy special SIM cards for your phones? This looks like a great tool to have
Love to visit and hopefully after we get a Vaccine next year, we can go on a Spiritual Retreat with Christina Lopes. She is from this Island. Maybe we can stay in this bungalow? I have to first find out how much the Retreat will cost. Is it expensive to stay on the Island?
she said it remindes her of mexico. portugual and spain was called hispania meaning people of the iberian penninsula. We are the same genetic and culture wise for the most part. Azoreans arent full blooded portuguese, lots of different cultures settled there. I was shocked when i first went there at how much it is like latin america
John, how do you get lost on a island that runs in a straight line from the SE to the NW? Your "device" didn't work out there? Had to resort to a (HORROR!) paper map?! LOL! What a dork!
Actually there are lots of Buteo buteo, also known as round-tail eagle. THE AZORES FLAG IS AN EAGLE, for crying out loud!! As it goes for sharks, i lived there 5 years did a lot of spearfishing and professional boat fishing, biggest shark i saw was about 1 mt long... João TF Santos, you get the dumb comment award.
Great Channel . I live in São Jorge ( Saint Jorge). Unfortunately the best places in the island you did not visit. If you contact me I will advise you. Paulo

Talip Ucar not true. Friends recently purchased a home there. Do your research. It may be a bit pricy but it is not that expensive to live there. Other places are way more expensive.

Hi! I live on São Jorge, in Ribeira Seca. I'm só happy that you loved my island and the Azores!
Filipa Silveira , estou a pensar ir aí de férias. Que tempo temos em setembro ?
Hey man, you probably don't read this but if you do i have a question to you. Is it expensive to buy a house there or could someone whos not from the azores or even portugal buy some land there?
This place looks absolutely amazing. It's like you have the place all to yourself. Very tranquil.
My husband was born in Sao Miguel the largest island. Several years ago we went there for vacation and toured every inch of that island. Oh and I LOVE ALL THE FLOWERS that grow naturally there. They are called Hydragneas and due to the warm moist climate they grow enormous.
Wow that drone footage really shows how stunning The Azores can be!!
Thanks Dan !!
Amazing video, can't get enough of the Azores..
Os Açores são o paraíso no meio do oceano Atlântico. Belíssimas ilhas, comida excelente, gente muito gentil.

My mother was born there.love the S.Jorge cheese yummylicious, es ist wondershonne dort.
I know it's quicker to fly to S. Jorge, but if you take the ferry, from Angra, it will be well worth it.
Yeah, can't go wrong with any ferries.. except when they're on strike hahah like today.

This guy missed the naturally formed pool connecting to the ocean at Topo on the right side.

There are no eagles in the Azores, but there are many sharks.
Hahaha, good to know !
Actually the Azores have one species of eagle, the Milhafre. Its very likely that what Adraina saw was a Milhafre Eagle.

You got to find a better balance, I'm planning a 2 weeks trip in the Azores and this was not really helping.
It's a vlog- video blog. That's the format, you can find many nice scenery videos on UA-cam if my content doesn't do it for you.

A volcanic island in the middle of the ocean. Can the volcano explode again?
No, I do not think. Where will the people run when the volcano erupts?
Frequent frequent earthquakes! You may not have a chance to escape.
Everything is very expensive. It's not a place to live.
