I don't see the ink for the new KC 2023 mintages? I'm keen to know!
www.mint.ca/globalassets/about/company/reports/2023/annual-report-2023/rcm-ar-2023-en-final.pdf
Mintages are way at the back.
What a hunt! You got a great variety of finds...glad you didn't get many fakes. To be honest, I very rarely hunt loonies or toonies because I get way too many short rolls and fakes. It would be nice if banks had a policy where they counted out the larger denomination rolled coinage before selling them to customers. Still waiting to find a KC Loonie or Toonie. I got 20 mint-wrapped rolls of 2024 KC dimes at the bank a few days ago! I kept the ones that had both dates showing on the ends.
Wow - still haven't found any 2024s just yet! Nice find!
Can you turn the fakes back into the bank
I've been able to do that so far, and they've exchanged them for real ones, thank goodness. But at some point I'm sure they'll stop doing that.
I got a colour northern lights in my change from the store, too bad it has a big scratch in the paint, but still cool
Still a great find!!
I got the dance of the spirits 2017 toonie from asking for coloured coins in the bank
How do you ask for coloured coins at the bank? I didn’t know that was even possible lol
That's a really tough one to find. Way to go!
@@stevenwelbourne8959 Just go to the bank and ask the teller!
I do love me some Canadian coins. I'm an American and we don't get those here. I miss the queen on the coins she made me feel comfortable RIP. King Charles just ain't hitting it for me. It's like George Washington on the 1$ bill. The royal Canadian mint makes some absolutely beautiful coins. The US mint nowadays is very boring.
I do love the American quarters, but I'll agree that the Royal Canadian Mint wins out on variety across the denominations. Thanks so much for waching!
In the US, my one friend just told hes been saving a big bin of canadian coins that his grandparents started 30 years ago. I CANT wait to look at it all and its never been searched through
Wow! There's a great chance there's something old and interesting in there. Have fun!
I see you found a lot of unique toonies! Do you know how to get transit rolls? (Coins from a transit agency and then placed into rolls)
I don't know which banks locally deal with the transit authorities.
I'm living in BC and i've hunted my fair share of coin rolls but I have yet too see a fake toonie.
They're certainly common out here, but I'm sure they're making their way out West. Keep an eye out!
I found a fake toonies it's a 1990 Z dollar with a weird king and a kind of walrus on the other side.
That's a great one! I have no idea how many there are, but likely very few. I know of only one other person who has one in their possession. I'm hoping I might find one, too!
Hey james just wondering whats the best website to find the mintages of coins
For websites, you can visit Numista.com or coinsandcanada.com. They both list the mintages as soon as they're available.
Wicked good hunt bud! Congrats!
Thanks! Lots of goodies in this box - and very few fakes. I'll take it!
It's so nice Canada has so many different coins, here in the states it's the same old thing over and over. The Quarters are the only thing that has had some changes.
I do like the American quarters, but it's true that there are commemmoratives in every denomination here, which makes it interesting.
Is there just a regular 2017 toonie? Like a 2017 RCM? I can't seem to ever find one!
No regular design 2017 coins were released for circulation. I've never found one. You will likely have to pick it up in a set. The published mintage figures for 2017 do not seem to be correct. (Or if that many coins were minted, they were subsequently destroyed.
You know what's crazy, when I was coin hunting through a box of toonies I found a 2000 toonie with only one polar bear and a "W" on the obverse near the bottom on the Queen's neck. Turns out these are limited and are from a set. Is that true?
@@ishwerbasra7149 Yes, it could be a proof, as well, I think. Either way, it was not intended for circulation and is a great find in the wild!
but but but...did you make any money ?
I haven't tried to sell anything I found in this box. Some coin roll hunters post all their good finds on eBay to make money. I'm more into the fun!
Wow! 2 fake toonies in a box has got to be an impressive record!
It's the fewest I've found in a box going back almost 3 years now. At this point, I think I'd be shocked if I found a 100% clean box. This is the closest I've come.
In the Euro area banks are required to check every coin. Also it's forbidden to hand out coin rolls wrapped by customers or bank tellers, only machine rolled coin rolls from certified banks and cash handling facilities are allowed.
This makes the whole process of handling coins pretty expensive, but you are very unlikely to find a fake or a foreign coin in your roll. Also you pretty much never get a coin less or more than expected. Coins with some heavy damage slip into the rolls sometimes though.
are Toonies supposed to have the bumps on the rim where the letters are struck.?
Yes - you can see the bumps when you look at the face of the coin, caused by the pressure of impressing the letters on the edges. It looks like it could be damage, but it's just a side-effect of the process.
@@CADRollHunter ahhh okay. i managed to actually acquire a few of the most recent Commemoratives and noticed that, that's really interesting.!!! the only two Commemoratives I'm missing are the 2018 Armistice and 2017 Northern Lights
@@evangouldtransit Keep looking - they're out there for you to find!
@@CADRollHunter I'm from the US, unfortunately, I'd have to purchase one online.!
A Great Box for any CRHer, no matter what country coinage you collect, James! My rule of thumb is, one box and score one album hole filled. Any key, semi key, upgrades or NIFC's duplicates are all bonuses. I pretty sure I remember you at 350 subs back in Sept '21, way to grow! Let's go 10K by years end!
Thanks, Greg! I might have even had fewer subs than that at that time! I appreciate everyone who'd been along for the ride - especially those of you who've been around since the early days!!
Great box! Congrats on 8K!
Thanks so much! Much appreciated!
So many colorized and commemoratives.A really enjoyable hunt.😊🎉.Thanks for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it, Kevin! Thanks!
how the pourcentage for fake toonie
It's about 1-2% overall in my experience. If you think about how many toonies are in circulation, it' scary!
@@CADRollHunter i never find those they rare
where are the 2023 mintage figures?
They are up on Numista.
thank you.
@@jackbob3038 No problem!
Here's the link to the Mint's annaul report. The mintages are at the very back: www.mint.ca/globalassets/about/company/reports/2023/annual-report-2023/rcm-ar-2023-en-final.pdf
ty!
Nice box. Im still trying to find any of the 2023 Riopelle toonies.
I've never actually hunted toonies, and the only reason I've hunted loonies is because I get them for laundry, I hate that the switched the loonies from bronze to brass in 2012, the old bronze ones didn't darken like the brass
Hey, Brian! Thanks so much for signing up to be a channel member! You're my very first, and I really appreciate it!
Very nice toonie hunt 💯
Thanks!!
That was a pretty darn good hunt.
I thought it was going to be a bad one, but didn't take long for things to turn around!
I have been coin roll hunting in Northern Ontario for a few years now and I have yet to find a single regular strike 2017 small denomination coin. Charlton has montages of over 100 million of the 5 cent and 25 cent and almost 200 million for the 10 cent coin . Have you noticed in your area the lack of 2017 coins?
I think those mintage figures are misleading. They are counting all the coins issued for the various uncirculated sets (there were many) in 2017. As far as I know, there were no regular coins (non-commemorative) issued for circulation in 2017.
I honestly don't think those figures are even close to being correct. I've never found a 2017 regular design in circulation, and I don't think any were released.
I still think those mintages are incorrect. The RCM annual report shows 199 Million bluenose dimes minted, but they wouldn't have released anwhere near that many sets or special rolls. And over 100M caribou quarters. I've emailed the mint for clarification, but I've never received a response.
@@CADRollHunter I think you are correct. Those mintage numbers are really high. I think there is some accounting errors, or they melted most of them (which would be very costly).
This has been a mystery for me for quite awhile. I also work in retail and find all the current coins and have only found commemorative coins for 2017. By the way that was a very good twoonie hunt .i still haven’t seen a King Charles twoonie.
