John: been a subscriber for over 18 months!! Love your advice. Sorry to hear about the breakup.
My only addition would be: What do they bring to the table? Many women --including stylish or even older women-- are very...boring.
Plus how many women do you know that can live without their phone for even two days? They start to go into withdrawal and get the shakes (laughter).
Just look at couples on a date: they both have their phones out and are not talking.

Totally agree Brother, spent most of the last 5 years of post divorce burying myself in work. Part of what I appreciate about your channel has been your honesty, (for me smaller) style tweaks and choices (I had a pretty good foundation) and trying new things that I might have put off otherwise. Best of luck post breakup, and keep up the great work!

I must admit that the style piece of things is my biggest challenge. I came out of a 25 year relationship about 3 years ago and got pretty "comfortable" wearing "comfortable" clothes. I have made some modest improvements. Lol!
Fortunately, I've worked out all of my life so my fitness has helped me out a little.
Great video, as usual! Good luck on your fresh start!

Yes!!! "The style bar is so low right now" I was just having this conversation with a couple of guys at work yesterday.. Even minimal effort now is making average guys look "Ehh & Ok"... but if you elevate your day to day clothes/style... you will definitely turn heads and be seen as different, and BETTER than the rest.

While I have a wardrobe of modern clothes, that mirror the influece I have obtained fom your channel what suprises me is the number of women who after politely commenting on what I am wearing, when they first meet me in a social situation add the comment "I wish I could get my husband to dress like you do". I used to believe style was superficial, and therefore unimportant.
More recently, I've decided that style is important, *because* it's superficial.
The examples you gave illustrate this perfectly. A significant number of women (and some men) will conjecture that I have lots of additional positive attributes, just because I've dressed better than average. I refer to this behavior as "reading tea leaves." Instead of taking the time and learning what positive/negative traits someone has, they'll try guess that future by searching for clues in unrelated details (clothing). First impressions tend to last, so some people will continue to hold these positive impressions, even when my own actions and behaviors contradict their assumptions.
These assumptions based on someone's style are superficial, and can be incredibly misleading. They're also very easy for me to manipulate to my advantage. And if my style isn't working to my benefit, then it's probably working to my detriment.

Kudos to you on another great video, John. You really touched on a theme that is central to my life outlook as a marketing communications pro, and that is that we are all brands for ourselves. Basically, we are the set of values that make up who we are and what we communicate to the world around us (whether we are trying to or not!) What we want people to know about us and to feel about us are concepts that companies think about all the time (or at least they should), and this ties in directly to what you focus on in your videos. Branding (both corporate and personal) involves defining, refining, controlling and effectively communicating your unique philosophy. At the end of the day, it's very empowering to know we have more control over how the world sees us than we think. I'd love to see you do a deeper dive into this relationship between personal brand and personal style in a future vid. And I'd be remiss in my own personal branding if I didn't offer to contribute my input to such a project. 😉

Great video by the way, as I'll add my two cents... Dress to impress though not phony, Make sure you dot the I's and cross your T's in the hygiene area, meet them at a nice place like a coffee house, cafe, or a nice high-end restaurant at the lounge and/or bar for a drink. Most of all listen to that person because what they say is what is most important about them. They can be very attractive, but if you are into the outdoors and they hate the idea of it then it will not work out. On the other hand, someone may be less attractive who holds your same interests might be more enticing if you listen to them and share who you really are. Overall make it fun for yourself and do not put pressure on you to make a great impression. Follow those little rules above and you will let nature take its course and of course don't be caught off guard with a messy place and bathroom just in case things work out rather quickly for a (cough cough) night cap...

Glad that I am happily married and not in the dating pool again. I have noticed though that many older guys with money purposefully dress down specifically to avoid attention.
I know a couple guys worth well north of $10 million and typically they are wearing T-shirts, shorts and flip flops in the summer, maybe jeans and a sweatshirt in the winter. I see that a lot around Maui when we visit there as well ..... people with lots money don't necessarily want to look like they have lots of money. They'd rather blend in when out in public.
I've noticed that I can be invisible when walking out into a local store parking lot. But if I happen to be driving one of my classic sports cars like my XKE or Lotus, suddenly my way too casual dress or even dirty work clothes (if I've been working on the cars) don't seem to matter anymore and I get approached when people see me get in them. The appearance of having money, even if one doesn't, seems to outweigh style. I spent decades dressing as a professional and now in retirement, 99% of the time I purposefully dress in a comfortable manner that leads people to think I don't have much money. But I understand the need for single folks wanting to make good first impressions, just glad I don't have to worry about that anymore.

I'm a similar age to you and would not be seriously interested in a woman under 40. Too big an age difference. Would mean it's not a relationship of equals

I have zero problem getting noticed by women over 40, they can be had with a smile and a hello. But nubile women in their 20s and 30s, they are a challenge.

Thanks, John I had watched many videos for sometimes. You gave super advice real down to earth reality information . You saying everything exactly true also very helpful in today older ages gentlemen. Old woman are as small as the man . Even smarter went going in relationship. This is so happening as now. I meeting up this very fine lady street smart also little on richer side . Which she have some $$ saving on the side. She also afraid walking into a serious relationship. So as now we are learning and feeling out each other. She asked many of your words you mentioned here . You are 💯 correct. Let me know on your reply or comments what should I do from here. Thanks John. Happy holidays keep up with your good work for us . Sharper ours 40’s plus.

The Title is a bit confusing. Do you mean, How to get noticed by WOMEN who are Over 40 years old; OR, How to get noticed by Women when WE are Over 40 years old?

@@40OverFashion Ah gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up. Been watching a lot of your videos, and practicing what you preach. Been doing a daily skin care routine for the past 4 months; have lost 140 lbs so working on a new wardrobe; exercising daily (100 Push-Ups/stairs/ weight lifting). Also working on other aspects. Excellent channel.

Seems to be a common thing among commenters on here seeming to want women decades younger than them. Shallow in my opinion

    • @jasonhurst8599
      @jasonhurst8599 2 роки тому

@@jonstern7511 How is that being shallow? Maybe I just find younger women more attractive. Not saying I don't find "older" women attractive. I'm just very energetic, active, think younger than I am, and aren't ready to sit around and play BINGO, watch Matlock, and listen to 1930's music & songs just yet. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
Not to mention that maybe, just maybe I'm referring to one specific woman whom I've known, and loved, and have been in love with, for years.
What's it to you anyway? 🤬

I think the biggest turn-on, and one seldom used to its fullest effect, is a smile. Nothing tops a big, bright, confident, welcoming smile.

Women can also approach men. I don't like this entire we need to chase them all the time bs. You live near San Diego, right? Well, I was out a restaurant in the city and the guys with the best looking women were literally wearing raggedy old t shirts, jeans, and tennis shoes. The guys with style were alone looking around at the hot women.
