Thanks, I was thinking it was older than that. I know Gibson did some funky stuff with their serial numbers in the 1960s and 70s making some of their guitars difficult to date.
You did an amazing job with that, though I think the wood was attractive enough to use a clear lacquer instead of a paint. It would have been really beautiful to be able to see the grain of the wood. Well done!
I prefer the original color , but, you did an excellent job with your project completion overall. Please continue to put up more of your work for those of us who are in the learning process. Original as in what the guitar originally came as, or from the video? I say this because it's not the original finish and honestly, it looks like crap.
@@ou8126he’s talking about the doodoo brown that it started with. It was a cherry finish, but someone painted it over with what looked like oil house paint. You could see the brush strokes and all. Calm your tits
I would have NOT painted over the beautiful wood grain and left it natural wood with a satin gloss. However what you did is also beautiful. It took a lot of patience to do all that. Thank you for sharing.

As it was necessary to paint over the repaired holes why do it in such a dreadful color!!!??? Gloss black with a nice clear coat…perhaps some pearl added to the clear coat…anything but baby poop green!!!
You know at first I hated that paint job but then it really grew on me. Its a classy color and being able to see the woodgrain is a nice touch. I bet its going to relic really pretty too.
That tailpiece is a "Bowen Handle" from the '80's, minus it's handle and spring. It fits on the original stop bar posts without any modifications to the guitar.
This is the info I was looking for in the comments. Nice looking bridge, I haven't seen one before, or noticed anyway, and I'm pretty long in the tooth lol. I learned something today, thanks.
Would have been cool too if it got sanded down to remove the flaking walnut finish and then coated with new lacquer. Giving it a true vintage look. However the refinish was amazing! Keep it up.
I wish they had at least done this with the beautiful back of the guitar, which looked beautiful and was fairly pristine. Yet they could have still had the color up front, if they wanted.
I don’t care for the color and finish. I would have chosen a high gloss white. But, then it’s not my guitar. The restoration is first rate. The finished product is fantastic. Shows great skill and patience. Well done.
great job restoring this guitar. alot of patience and knowhow was needed. id have never painted it green though but iy looks good. natural or a transparent red would have been beautiful. great job though
I bought a Korina Ibanez Flying V in the 80’s and had it restored a few years ago. What a great sounding guitar. Wish I did it sooner. I love watching this stuff.
For some reason and speaking strictly as a guitar-maker and repairman for years I have seen countless butcherized SG's on my workbench with many of these being in worse shape than this one... For some reason Les Pauls, 335's, Flying V's, Explorers, Firebirds, etc... are rarely messed with but it's okay to mess up with SG's... Maybe it's because they're more affordable and less luxurious than Les Pauls so it's no big deal 😄😄 Anyway, I'm glad to see that nice SG restored and back in all of its glory... I was especially impressed with your work with the serial number... Great work as always 👍👍
Would have liked to see you check/lubricate the gears on the tuners as they had to be rusty/dirty inside. Repair or replace the potentiometers and wiring where needed also. Polishing the body after painting, whether or not you fill the wood grain would have been nice too, and would have added a lot of luster to the body. Overall good work though!
Great work, I do wonder though why some people spend so much on a Gibson when youve revealed its just a piece of wood that now looks brand new. The only thing to justify an expensive guitar is the amount of time spent on labor.
I normally don’t like SG’s but that is a beautiful project. Well done …that guitar looks incredible. Breathing new life into that instrument is good for the universe
I wouldn't have been able to paint that mahogany. I would have left it natural or cherry and put on a bigsby to cover a bunch of the holes. Nice work though.
Thats alot of fine work to finish with spray can paint. The project really deserves catalyzed automotive paint or lacquer clear. Just a thought, I enjoyed the video.

I will admit I was not big on color choice, but could see it was painted before that tacky brown. As the pieces fell together color choice was awesome.
Good job on the restoration! My only positive critique is that I wish you would have put a better nut on it and also a complete overhaul of the wiring and potentiometers would have done wonders for the guitar...maybe thicker gauge strings as well...again, all just input my friend. Thanks for making the video again and for demonstrating techniques for guitar restoration!!!
Hello Friend, very nice finish on this old Gibson SG and as usual, amazing restoration ! Thank you very much for this delightful video ! See you soon...
I would have cleaned it up so it was playable and stayed in tune and left it as is. The original beat up look was really unique. You fucked up the SG with the paintjob!
definitely woulld have done a wood stain.
I was so excited to see that clear coat go on the natural wood and then he brought out the spray paint can… so disappointing
for those who are curious, i checked the serial number and this guitar is from 95. Great video!
Yup, made in Nashville 10 January 1995, production number 502.
Now I don't feel so bad for them doing this to it 🤔
Oh quite more recent than I thought, looking at the tailpiece.
