for those who are curious, i checked the serial number and this guitar is from 95. Great video!
Yup, made in Nashville 10 January 1995, production number 502.
Now I don't feel so bad for them doing this to it 🤔
Oh quite more recent than I thought, looking at the tailpiece.
...I thought that guitar would be much much older than as mentioned...
Thanks, I was thinking it was older than that. I know Gibson did some funky stuff with their serial numbers in the 1960s and 70s making some of their guitars difficult to date.
Was hard to see that beautiful red wood get painted over, but am glad a new life was given to this instrument.
Quando ele deixou somente na madeira, ficou linda...quando passou o prime ,ficou muito melhor....a pintura ficou boa demais, mas prefiro madeira
Yeah the colour is shit
You fucked up the SG with the paintjob!
definitely woulld have done a wood stain.
I was so excited to see that clear coat go on the natural wood and then he brought out the spray paint can… so disappointing
You did an amazing job with that, though I think the wood was attractive enough to use a clear lacquer instead of a paint. It would have been really beautiful to be able to see the grain of the wood. Well done!
I thought the same but those filler plugs might have been a problem
I have used bamboo skewers for the same task. It ruins the grain pattern.
I prefer the original color , but, you did an excellent job with your project completion overall. Please continue to put up more of your work for those of us who are in the learning process. Also I like the way that you do not need to speak in your videos and simply show the before and after of your projects and the steps taken to achieve the quality that you display.
Original as in what the guitar originally came as, or from the video? I say this because it's not the original finish and honestly, it looks like crap.
Agreed. I would have like to see it get grain fill and a gloss clear coat but not bad.
I’d like to see u do better@@Masterfighterx
@@ou8126he’s talking about the doodoo brown that it started with. It was a cherry finish, but someone painted it over with what looked like oil house paint. You could see the brush strokes and all. Calm your tits
I was hoping for a clear coat or tru/tung oil finish, but I'm a sucker for wood grain. As it was it came out really well!
I would have NOT painted over the beautiful wood grain and left it natural wood with a satin gloss. However what you did is also beautiful. It took a lot of patience to do all that. Thank you for sharing.
ぞんざいな扱いで傷んだギターを丁寧に修復されるところをいつも見せていただいております。素晴らしいですね。
That tailpiece is a "Bowen Handle" from the '80's, minus it's handle and spring. It fits on the original stop bar posts without any modifications to the guitar.
This is the info I was looking for in the comments. Nice looking bridge, I haven't seen one before, or noticed anyway, and I'm pretty long in the tooth lol. I learned something today, thanks.
Would have been cool too if it got sanded down to remove the flaking walnut finish and then coated with new lacquer. Giving it a true vintage look. However the refinish was amazing! Keep it up.
I wish they had at least done this with the beautiful back of the guitar, which looked beautiful and was fairly pristine. Yet they could have still had the color up front, if they wanted.
This is incredible, your channel deserves so much praise! 🎸
I bought a Korina Ibanez Flying V in the 80’s and had it restored a few years ago. What a great sounding guitar. Wish I did it sooner. I love watching this stuff.
You really did give this guitar a fresh new look! You did a fantastic job.
いつもながら、素晴らしい復活劇を見せられました‼️そのお手並みの見事なことに今回は色彩の素晴らしさに魅了されました❤ギター愛を感じますね❣️🌏ありがとうございました❣️🌏
To hear the guitar after you're finished is what I wait for. You've got a good thing going here. Cheers
Beautiful work. SG's are my favourite guitars, so this was very enjoyable to watch!
Nice thorough restauration! good job cleaning the metal bits
I just love it, what a fantastic work you did ! Bring legends to us back from the past !
Thank you for your hard work. That guitar deserved to be brought back to as it should be.
watching the test run at 2x play speed is a trip! great restoration
Amazing transformation! Love that guitar!
The original one for me was the perfect guitar with a lot of stories to tell!
I agree. Awesome guitar as original.

So many people are gonna be mad you refinished this but I think you just made it last for another 50+ years!
I wouldn't have been able to paint that mahogany. I would have left it natural or cherry and put on a bigsby to cover a bunch of the holes. Nice work though.
Eh, it was made in 1995 going by the serial number. Not particularly valuable, so a good guitar to refinish.
@@jessebusenそのとおりだね。カッコいいギターになって羨ましい
Made in 1995??!! What, did they store it in a shed with no case the entire time??? 😂
I agree. That grain is beautiful; cherry or maybe a thin color. @@mrbuttons1243
Wow, that's one of the most satisfying and engaging guitar restoration videos I've ever seen. Guitar zen. And great demo at the end.
Love the original finish. Love the new color finish. What can I say, it’s a Gibson SG. Their phenomenal guitars! Great rebuild.
見応え十分な素敵な動画でした✨
You made this old guitar look new while people are paying thousands of dollars for the opposite. Very satisfying result.
1995 SG standard... Great job... But like everyone else says I prefer it's usual Cherry/Walnut color.
The Best part was hearing your playing, you have a very distinct guitar style, very progressive and heavy.
typical jap style.. clever, but no feeling... like a computer game...
I'm totally fascinated and impressed by how someone can have so much craftsmanship and technical understanding. big compliment !
Hello Friend, very nice finish on this old Gibson SG and as usual, amazing restoration ! Thank you very much for this delightful video ! See you soon...
めちゃくちゃカッコいい感じに仕上がっていてビックリです🌟
SGの修正、、とても見応えがありました!!
お疲れ様でした!
I don’t care for the color and finish. I would have chosen a high gloss white. But, then it’s not my guitar. The restoration is first rate. The finished product is fantastic. Shows great skill and patience. Well done.
この色素敵です👍
仕上がりがめっちゃ綺麗
That guitar was beautiful with the peeling paint too.
SG 's don't look as good as a strat when heavily worn , but I prefer a new looking SG anyday !
Why? What is attractive about a guitar that looks like trash? Makes no sense to me.
@@okbouncer24 A worn guitar is often a guitar that’s been played a lot. Ask Willie Nelson and his guitar, Trigger.
@@geraldhills41 I would have just lightly sanded it, especially where the paint was peeling, and then put a matte sealer on it. The electronics would all be replaced, of course, but I like the road-worn look when it’s real.
@@benkenon I get that. However, he is the one who wore it out. It's his story that guitar tells. Nobody else's. Makes no sense for anybody else to play it because of that. I don't understand custom shop guitars as well. Why take a perfectly new guitar and beat it up and make it look old just because you want it to look like Willie Nelson's guitar? Why not buy a new one and create your own story. Just because a guitar has been beaten up and not taken care of does not mean you should leave it that way. Restore it and give it a new life and let someone create a new story on top of the story that already exist? That's just me. I would never want to play an ugly instrument.
this is great I feel like im learning a lot and this is just fun to watch in general, love the color choice very unique
あなたのビデオが本当に好きです。ギターはとてもうまくいきました。輝きを取り戻しました。色のコントラストが少しだけですが、その他はすべて素晴らしかったです。メキシコからこんにちは 🇲🇽🇲🇽
Oh man , that whole process was beautiful 🔥🔥🔥
From one craftsman to another.. Amazing work my brother.. Keep up the GREAT work.. Thank you for posting.. Peace, Love.. T
Enjoyed your playing also... T
As usual, that was a totally new and different instrument once you got through with it, and it looks and sounds amazing. That new color is beautiful! Well done, sir.
Pelham blue is the color. Great turnaround.
@@mitchmurrell753Yeah but it's like the color of aged/oxidized Pelham blue...great turnaround for sure.
Not new at all. Same guitar just restored.
You did a lot of work! Nice job!
良い色。
敢えてマッチングヘッドにしないところが、潔くてカッコいい。
Fantastic job!! Also, excellent playing at the end!
Wow…what a transformation. And it sounds great, especially in your hands. Great job!
I would have preferred the natural wood finish and look, but still, it looks amazing. Great job!
I thought it was an ABSOLUTE CRIME to cover it with paint when it could have had SUCH a beautiful natural wood finish
yup@@L8rCloud
With all that covered up holes? 🤨
I also prefer the natural color of wood and I think the result would have been impressive given the great effort he put in
I would have cleaned it up so it was playable and stayed in tune and left it as is. The original beat up look was really unique. I’m not into relic guitars but sg imo are the only guitars that look good like that. Maybe a tele or Strat as well. I would love to find a beat sg like that. I have a 61 and a special that are all glossy and shiny and new. Would love to add a beater to the collection. Where would one find one like that? eBay?
In 1970, i was 14yrs old. Bought a beat up 1956 les paul Jr. It was a 14 yr old 7/8 scale student guitar of the day. It had burn marks, knife cuts, horrible. At 14...I refinished it. Saved the head stock name. I wished I didn't do it. But...I was young wanted a nice looking guitar. I paid $99.00 for it in Payett Idahoh.
That is a beautiful transformation.. excellent work.
Good on ya u did well with this project hard work always pays off
Wow an SG that isn't a boring shade of red or black. Color me impressed.
Pelham blue?
@@atomicrocker Pelham blue is infinitely more interesting than red or black on these.
@@Viper505repiV1 Ha ha, I have both colors.
Add me to the "no he did not" pile. Looks good after. Looked great before.
DUDE IS THAT KILLIE??? I didn't expect u to like screamo i love this band
For some reason and speaking strictly as a guitar-maker and repairman for years I have seen countless butcherized SG's on my workbench with many of these being in worse shape than this one...
For some reason Les Pauls, 335's, Flying V's, Explorers, Firebirds, etc... are rarely messed with but it's okay to mess up with SG's... Maybe it's because they're more affordable and less luxurious than Les Pauls so it's no big deal 😄😄
Anyway, I'm glad to see that nice SG restored and back in all of its glory...
I was especially impressed with your work with the serial number...
Great work as always 👍👍
This looks really cool without the grain being filled back in. I have a mahogany guitar with that look and it's awesome.
It turned into a "Government" SG.. Awesome work! ❤
new becomes old, and old becomes new again. in an experts hands. well done.
That grain deserved a good finish, clearcoat and left as a natural.
His guitar, his choice.
Nicely done. Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed day.
Great demo at the end great playing
Excellent work and so satisfying to watch❤
I watched Stew Mac refinish a guitar and it is a lot of work and skill. I'm a Fender guy all the way BUT great job ❗️👍
You know at first I hated that paint job but then it really grew on me. Its a classy color and being able to see the woodgrain is a nice touch. I bet its going to relic really pretty too.
My “OCD” inclination would be to mark each part and put it back in the exact same place. Maybe not down to pickguard and control cover screws, but just about everything else. 😎🎸
I love the fact that he's able to fix all these (bass)guitars, and bring them back in tip top condition. but still has these big holes in his mesa boogie cabinet. when is he going to fix that?
I also love them videos buddy. great work.

Just some hand tools and elbow grease, lots of patience and good taste. What a great way to give this magnificent guitar a second life. Well done...
I like how you left the grain open. Nice job
@1:46 I was so glad you put towel down so as not to mar the finish when popping off the volume and tone knobs, lol. Great work, it's looks fantastic. Thanks for posting it!
I liked the natural brown color. But great job, anyway!
Good job on the restoration! My only positive critique is that I wish you would have put a better nut on it and also a complete overhaul of the wiring and potentiometers would have done wonders for the guitar...maybe thicker gauge strings as well...again, all just input my friend. Thanks for making the video again and for demonstrating techniques for guitar restoration!!!
You do great work! Keep it up! 😊
毎度毎度、素晴らしい技ですなぁ、、✨
WOW! Awesome job. It looks great!
You might want to put a satin finish on the back of the neck or sand it smooth.
Interesting choice of colour ( Cherry or Walnut would have looked good ) but great job in bringing the SG back to life ..
Good guitarist too. Thanks for sharing!
I'm torn. I love an old beat up guitar, but at the same time, I can appreciate a good refinish.
I will admit I was not big on color choice, but could see it was painted before that tacky brown. As the pieces fell together color choice was awesome.
nice guitar, nice job..I actually liked the perloid dots on the pickguard..and I would have tried to find the missing end part of the original tremolo it had and restore it all
Nice to see how an SG is built.
as always mate great work! Your work inspires me too to have top quality in my guitar set ups
Very meticulous detail good job
You restoration would have looked even more stellar if you had filled the pores in the wood of the guitar body. Nice work on the restoration!
that's a personal preference though. I have a Gibson with pours and I wouldn't want them filled. I don't love the color, but I love how meticulously everything was cleaned and brought back to life!
What a phenomenal job! And you saved everything except the knobs!
Fantastic, you made a great job!
Stellar job! My very first guitar in 1965 was a Gibson SG standard with the whammy bar with a white pearl handle. In 1966.
How did one afford such a guitar back then?
@@s.i.s.t.m When I was in eighth grade, I rented a Gibson LGO Acoustic for $17 a month from a local music store that I took lessons from. That money applied towards my SG. That was $170 for the 10 months. I got the Gibson and a 15 W Ampeg jet for $360. I worked off the 190 balance and our family’s Italian restaurant for the summer of 66.
@@jammergreg what a cool story, thanks for sharing!
Amazing work, I really love your videos.
If you want to whiten yellow plastics you can put’em under uv light overnight.
Wow! For a moment I thought the guitar has been splattered with a huge amount of chocolate cream...
killieのTシャツでkillie弾きまくってる最高です
You should not have painted it, but sealed it with just the natural wood.
Beautiful color choice for an SG
Amazing restoration!
I'm glad you did a complete refinish. You usually clean up guitars and make them playable and i thinknthat would have been a shame in this case with all the holes that needed to be filled. I didn't think the cream and black pickups were going to work but with the colour and strange stop tailpiece... it all seems to work. The open pore finish looks great. Awesome job!
I happen to have that tailpiece on a 79 SG. It's called a Bowen Handle. and yeah,,that one is missing handle and mine has a big spring that I don't see here.
Does it also allow you to raise the action for slide playing?
@@allenbetz1175 i wouldn't think so. If you want a quick and easy tool to setup your guitar for slide, check out the Grover GP1103 "Perfect" guitar extension nut. Goes over existing nut and raises action across the board. Quick and easy to remove and restore your guitar to normal string height
I like the way you positioned the sticks in a four way pattern, so it gives you a centre hole for the screw.
Clever comment
Btw those screws are not usable anymore
Beautiful guitar 🎸
Looks great. Awesome job
Love the color! The body maybe could have used a grain filler, but everything turned out great!
The time effort, new tools and maybe a lack of know how, plus maybe never going to happy with the result going for the standard/custom finish. Stick with what you can do, and work your way up with cheaper guitars?
I would have kept the wood grain. I have a 72 which is all original and in much better condition
Mahogany definitely needs grain filler
SGって汚いままもカッコいいと思ってしまうのは俺だけ?
He sanded out the belt marks. You should never refinish the belt marks. That's how you know a guitar was played. 😢
Repainting such a guitar is a crime. it's like repainting the façade of historical a building.
@@OVS888 There were spots that needed some love - like the back of the neck. And the peeling paint needed correction. But for the most part I completely agree with you.
An SG is cool no matter what.
Hey dude,..u have ruin the history of this guitar ...and u filmed you're destruction.of a instrument That traveled many miles.
Love that color! Great job!
本当に凄い!
I find your videos so relaxing. Would have preferred the SG remain natural wood color, but that's just me.
Another beautiful transformation!
I refinished my one piece SG Custom after dowelling the Bridge support holes that were about 1/4 inch big and stripped out were replaced by a flat piece of aluminum to hold the Bridge in place.
The quality of Mahogany varies from one year to another, but I was so impressed with the colors and textures of the wood that I put 30 coats of Tung Oil on it, and it reveals the grain of the wood along with the nice red and Yellow colors of the Mid 1970's wood that was available.
I stuck with the Bixby and installed Schaller roller bridge, as well as Schaller Tuners, it stays in tune and plays perfectly.
Looks lovely as well.
Me tooo!! What a beautiful grain that mahogany had... No need even to remain natural but at least, in a transparent finish.
@@olimon63 I had the Paint Store mix up a batch of Center Line Yellow stain to bring out the Gold that was down the center of the Body.
Some red for closer to the edges to emphasize the reddish hue that shows up around the edges, but the Tung Oil sure emphasized the colors after I got done.
Congratulations for the repair and recovery of a wonderful Gibson SG... But how was it possible to reduce it to these conditions???
Guitar looks gorgeous!!!
