I'm a Filipino in Canada. I am definitely considering retiring in PH. I like Tagaytay but hate the traffic there. Probably somewhere in Batangas near the diving spots I love. I also like Dumaguete because of all the beautiful places accessible from there. Great diving too! I really don't like Cebu City. Another place I love is Iloilo city. You are very bright/articulate. And driven apparently for starting your UA-cam business. Keep pushing, and you will be a huge success, that of which I have no doubt!
Cebu is Manila 2.0. Davao, CDO, Iloilo and Bacolod I think are better alternatives. If you want a truly provincial retirement, I'd recommend Palawan, Panglao/Bohol, and Bukidnon.
Netherland’s people are Dutch. And having lived in both Tagatay and Dumaguete/Valencia, prefer Dumaguete as it gets less severe weather events/typhoons.
My wife is from the Cebu area. We own a home in liloan. It’s nice being able to walk to the beach. Plus the airport is only 30 minutes away. Shopping is close also. Plus it is much cheaper than you say. But we already own a home there. I can’t wait till traveling opens back up. We will stay in the Philippines for at least six months.
That's great to hear James. Hope that the Philippines opens up for you guys soon. And I'm glad that you mentioned that it's cheaper than mentioned in the video. I was going off of my personal research so love to hear it from someone that has actually lived in Cebu! Thanks for watching 🙏

I suggest, try Iloilo City. You will be amazed. Best kept secret and the locals and old-timer and peace-loving expats wanted it that way. They try to avoid unwanted and crazy expats. If you like nightlife, this place is very limited. No bar-hopping in this place. Most night life here are dinner places with live band playing.
See, those are the kind of places I especially like. No rowdy crowds of foreigners, just classy expats looking to live a peaceful retired life. Thanks for suggesting that Romeo.
Bacolod is amazing. I felt more safe here than any major U.S. city. Negros Island is def becoming the most popular place to retire in P.I. The nearby mountain area climates are Cold n Chilly ! LuV It !
My bank account was hacked. I was speaking with customer service at the same time the hacker was. He got $12,000 before I contacted the bank. My bank reimbursed my losses and tracked him to Bacolod. I will never spend money there.
I don't think I would describe Tagaytay as "cool and misty". It's only cool relative to Manila, but still warm to hot, and also humid. The *coldest* month is January with an average maximum temperature of 30°C (86°F). From there it only goes warmer, frequently over 90F.
Great channel. The information and the way it’s delivered makes these vids a pleasure to watch. There’s A LOT of UA-camrs out there that should take notes on how it’s done. Top notch. Loving it. 👍
THANK YOU for producing a smart, well-written and respectful program. You're an excellent communicator, are adorable and engaging. KEEP IT UP! Makes mo wanna go back to the PI!
My wife is from Laguna, where we bought a residential lot years ago. We plan to build a house there probably before retirement. With the improvement of highways and byways, the drive from Manila would just be a breeze.
Tagaytay has been #1 on my top 5 list for places to retire in the Philippines, (Dumaguete is also on that top 5 list, with Cebu being my #6). Tagaytay is just so beautiful...I would love to wake up to that view every day for the rest of my life. Plus, being so high up, you don't have to worry (as much) about tsunamis or typhoons. Also, that proximity to Manila (while being far enough away that you are not caught up in big city life) is just too good to ignore. Good video, kid! Thanks for sharing!
Tagaytay is nice but gets crazy on the weekends with all the people coming in from the surrounding cities. Especially Manila. Lots of upscale restaurants and stuff but you still can get the traditional province feel.
This deserves a Part II! Check out Baguio as well. Subic for the retirees with their own boats. The City of Manila is having a Renaissance.. Mindanao is such a big place as well.
Explore Mindanao as well. Zamboanga del Sur, del Norte have some cool places as well and easy, simple living with no water supply issue like in Luzon. House helper is getting not as cool as said as many from the provinces, because of social media, look for greener pasture. Trust issue is a real issue these days wherever you are. Still, just check on this, mindanao has many equally great potential retirement places.
Excellent video! So much pertinent info in a concise, easily understandable delivery. You might as well become a real estate agent; I'd definitely use your services based on your knowledge, even at such a young age. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
Angeles City should be in top 3 if not #1. Not just because of the most entertainment, girls come from every province to work there, largest waterpark in Asia, 2nd largest airport in PI, fastest growing business area in PI, new train connecting Manila-Angeles- Subic. There is more things to do BY FAR in and around Angeles. Many ex-pat live there, join clubs, has the highest history for Americans, 1 hour to Subic, Pinatubo, only 2 hours to MANILA, 3 hours to Bagio. It is the Center most place to be in PHILIPPINES.
Good information and delivery from a young man! I'm Fil-Am living in TX. Were planning to retire in the Philippines in the future. I subscribed to your channel. Keep it going kid!

So pleased I stumbled on your channel, great info and very professional. Thank you so much, this video really helped me. Keep up the good work, you are going places!
Wow! It's super cheap! With a retirement budget over $7,000/month, the Philippine's sounds like a great place to retire. I'm strongly considering retiring in the Philippines. Thank you for this video.
Been in Dumaguete 2.5 years now. My costs are on the high end but I have a partner and child to support. But I know people, even with a filipina, that get by on $1000 a month. Duma itself is a little congested but there are areas outside the city that are very nice. Im in Valencia which is about 8km west up into the foothills of the mountains. Its a little cooler, more rainy, but more expensive.
Good info. Retired a few years ago and traveled to Cebu. Really liked it but it is a bit congested. I've heard Valencia is nice from some expats on the internet. How much to rent a decent house? How do you handle transportation? Thanks for your input.
thanks for this vlog. very informative. I'm planning on moving there in a couple years with my son and his filipina wife and kids. Once there, my son will build a house, but I'd like to move on my own, and have been researching for months places like Cebu and Dumaguete, and Iloilo city area. Now I'll research the Tagaytay area. Being I'm already 72, I'd like to be able to get to medical assistance if needed, so close to good hospitals would be a determining factor. keep up the good work. much appreciated.
James Nichols. i’m 70 years old and i’m a Filipina. Leyte is our province and our place is not far from Cebu. It’s by boat maybe 5 hours. I hope we will be friends.
I think Dumaguete will be a good retirement place for those who are in the mid-60s to 70s+. For expats (among the 3 top places for retirement for expats). Cebu City will be more attractive as it is more cosmopolitan with more modern amenities, yet near the nice beaches and resorts. Actually, it really depends on your lifestyle. It's good you touched on the budget, cost of living.
I only have 2 choices as a home base. Cebu City/Mactan and BGC. Its close to the airport and healthcare facilities. I just want to travel the islands and neighboring countries.
I've heard a lot of good things about Iloilo and Bacolod city, especially for retirees. Hoping everything goes smooth settling down here James 🙏 God bless
I love where I am. We have all the convenience. For medical, financial, comfort, & joy, everything I need is around me. Cost of living we are better than good. Than you for the info. We will visit Philippines only and we will travel around the world.
How about doing a video for those considering retiring in the provinces! I live in the provinces in a small fishing community 100km south of Cebu City. We built our nice little house on land we got from my wife's family. Total cost was about 300,000 pesos ($5400USD). Now there is no rent, we eat simple Filipino food, and live comfortably on 30k pesos ($540USD) per month. There are completely different dynamics but it is an option for many.
When I was there in the Philippines 🇵🇭 I lived in the province of Cavite and Makati City. For my preference though I would rather stay in Cavite because of the clean air. Although I did feel very comfortable living in Makati as well. Your videos are very informative and I thank you for sharing. 👍🏽
This video is really valuable. I loved the graphic details of cost of living; the geographic map can be a better I have to say, like showing a map for a few sec. Also in the cost of living is not including transportation: how do we get around and for how much? I like a city where there is a good night life, like bars, discos

@@TheSavvyExpat Hey Even, Well not that I've explored many places in the Philippines yet, I will say this of Iloilo it's a really nice little city, it's got great malls, restaurants, beaches beautiful scenery if you if you head out into the Island to some of the more romote areas like Capiz which I love it's really beautiful up there about an hour from the city. You're also close to Boracay and Gamaras Islands, Gamaras is supposed to be wonderful during Mango season, great resorts both islands as well as around the Island of Panay in general. As far as living, things are on the cheaper side being your away from Luzon probably similar to what you'd find in Duma. Seems to have great dental and medical care there from what my wife tells me thankfully I've not had to make use of that yet during our visits. There's also quite a bit of really nice gated communities popping up near Iloilo city. Definitely worth future expats to visit and consider as a potential retirement place. Can't wait to get back and vlog from there. There's a lot more to Panay, it's definitely a hidden gem I'd say. Take care, God bless! 🕊️
@@USAtoPhilippinesLife great to hear that. I'd really like to visit Iloilo. In the meantime, I'll be on the look out for some iloilo vlogs on your channel!
Ilo Ilo is close to Boracay and it has its own Gigantes Islands. It should be Ilo Ilo vs. Cebu. Because Duma is not as bustling. As for Tagaytay, a better option might be Baguio, the summer capital and city of pines.
I prefer Tagaytay though, it is near the Metro and the skyway is almost complete so travelling North to South of Luzon is easier. And if I wanted to go to the beach, Tagaytay is near Batangas.
Thankyou young man for your excellent review of these top three cities. I am now 70 years old and planning to retire to the Philippines this spring (if it opens back up to Americans) I have visited Cebu City and Dumaguete about 15 years ago. Both places were great and I have friends, American and Filipino, living there now. Keep up the good job on your videos and I'm a new subscriber. P.S. as a first-time visitor to the Philippines it was the first time I experienced being in a prejudice free environment ....everyone treated me just great! @@TheSavvyExpat it's because my retirement money goes a lot further in the Philippines...and also many of my older friends have also found a loving life partner. So it's a win win situation
@@realmercy exactly. And especially nowadays w/ ridiculous inflation, there's no way retiring in the U.S will get any better. And my family is friends w/ an older guy from Boston that settled down here, got a house in Cavite, and started a family. Anyways, good for you 👍 keep in touch on these videos, would love to hear your process of moving here.
Sir, it appears that this guy has a lot of people fooled. He is doing this video from Philippines. Go back and carefully watch the background, especially the traffic. Everything he shows in this video can be found from internet or other streaming sources. He even admits, that he can't properly pronounce the names of some of the cities and locations he profiling. Most Filipinos can pronounce their native language words. If he is from Chicago and being as young as he is, how would he know the prices people are paying? The answer is, if you watch other vlogers, you will learn exactly what they say they are paying. He probably can't speak any Filipino language dialects. Notice that he uses mostly American props and sceneries. The cabins he profiled for the Tagaytay area are of north American style and not of Philippines architecture. Where in Philippines would you find tumbleweeds? No where! My wife is Filipina from Philippines, not from America, she feels he is not in Philippines. I was born at night, but not last night!!!
Malaybalay City in Bukidnon has a cool climate and the city is not yet congested. If you want to go to the sea, Cagayan de Oro City is just 2 hrs away.
If you are still young and active and want to go to beaches , mountains and want active night life .. then Cebu City is the place. If you are older and want quiet night life with amenities and services close by then Dumaguete or even Cagayan or Davao would fit. It depends on individuals really. I am from Cebu but if i pick a place in Cebu it's probably the Mactan area close to the beach which also happens to be few minutes close to the airport. It's more quiet than living close to Metro Cebu which the traffic is a nightmare.
Good to know, originally Cebuano but I like the other islands after exploring them eg. Leyte, Bohol, Negros or Panay.... But Cebu and Negros fits the best because of the airports. Health Care wise I believe there's a 2 JCI accredited hospitals in two islands otherwise most are in Manila... I hope Philippines follows the lead of Thailand and have more JCI accredited hospitals (Thailand has 20+ I believe like Turkey) Also streamline the Fintech infrastructure or online payments to allow more International Health Insurance like Pacific Cross to be more accessible. Me and my White Canadian Fiance want to live in a homestead there but I don't want to be a fool without having $ invested for Health Care

@@karlthetrader I agree with, the main thing I am thinking is if I need big hospital close by just in case I need to check in for health issues. But I also want simultaneously to have a house on a beach as well. I just don't know where yet, any suggestions?

Would you recommend Ilo Ilo City on Panay as another place to live? I'm of Hiligaynon blood, and if I decided to live in the Philippines, I would like to live in a place where I can at least understand the language, or relearn it...
I would recommend Iloilo but my best advice to you is to at least live there for a few months or even a year before you retire there. Where are you at the moment?
Dumaguete have more fault lines than in Rizal or in Makati. So check with the locals which district in Dumaguete has experienced a strong earthquake ever in the history of the Philippines 10 yrs ago. Philippines, Japan, Indonesia are some of the few countries in southeast Asia in the ring of fire. Like Japan with episodes of shaky or non-shaky quakes( 50 more or less a day) other countries in the ring of fire are New Zealand, Chili, Peru, Canada, Mexico, Solomon's Island, Papa New Guinea, U.SA., Guatemala and Russia.
I have been living in Dumaguete for half an century now, and never have I experienced a major earthquake, i.e., higher than 7 in the R scale. I cannot recall experiencing any higher than 5, and they come rarely.
Your a great speaker, entertaining ! I Loved the guy speaking Englishgalog ! Keep up the good work and lets see some more of your videos soon. Ive been to all three places and there all excellent places !
Thank you. I’m researching the right place to retire that’s far away from the city life, traffic, noise and pollution. My real estate broker/friend is trying to suggest Bukidnon. Time to check it out. Cozy places to serve the locals.
Very informative. You have a new subscriber! I would personally recommend Cebu City. Tagaytay is ok but the idea of living within miles of a recently active volcano is scary. I hear Duma being a small city is now 'congested ' with expats. Cebu City will give you all the finer things in life (including fast Internet connection) without leaving a hole in your pocket.
I have been fortunate to spend time in Dumaguete, Bacolod and Cebu and I agree with you! I have been considering Dumaguete or Cebu to move to. Gov Garcia makes Cebu appealing with her leadership but very congested. However, Dumaguete gets fewer typhoons with less congestion. The people in these cities and provinces are amazing!!!
Let's see-- option 1= blown away, option 2= blasted out. High crime rates and extreme poverty. Tell me again why, as an older person who will only become more frail as time goes on, that I should retire in Philippines? Are these retired men only successful because they marry a desperate Filipina? I'm seriously searching out a retirement location but as a woman do not plan to marry a local. How safe is it there?
@@happycook6737 your questions make a lot of assumptions that really miss the mark. Just like any large city, crime will always be higher than rural areas. It could be considered offensive calling Filipinas desperate! I find nothing wrong with people wanting a better life. In every place on the planet we will find extremely selfish people looking out for their own interest. But don’t assume that represents the whole. Every place has its dangers! In my experience, I have found Filipinos to be very respectful towards the elderly, bosses, family and foreigners. Of course, always be cautious of foreigner traps. Listen for whistles when you walk into an area. Don’t ignore your surroundings. And Know a little about the culture as not to offend. Find the right taxi and he will go a thousand extra miles for you. I think Filipinos only require two hours of sleep bc they work hard and play hard 😂. And they are a blast to be around. Love them and the will love you!

Great script though. Dumaguete is or was laid back, but their are slowly ruining the reason it was charming. It is suppose to be provoncial. Siquijor and Cebu being very close is really a selling point. Cebu is super industrialized. Its for expats with more money.
Thanks for the support Eduardo 🙏 yea, many places in the Philippines are losing it's charm due to overpopulation and industrialization. More so turning into the west little by little. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Really enjoyed your video and can't disagree with any of that. Personally we chose the city of San Fernando (Pampanga) and I absolutely love it there. We are a 10 minute walk over the NLEx to a couple of very nice malls, and all the food choices a person could ever hope for, as well as right across the street from an S&R. We're temporarily back in Vancouver to get rid of our stuff and get back to San Fernando permanently this October.
We have a nice house there living in the boundary of Angeles and San Fernando in a subdivision peaceful and well guarded not just everyone can get inside good status of living 🇸🇽🇺🇸
I watch a husband and wife vlogger who reside in Puerto Princesa and they have frequent power outages. So finally, they got solar panels which are expensive but if you are an expat or balikbayan, most likely affordable.

People here work through their 70s until their bodies give up so they can save for retirement So it's good that Filipinos have the option to retire in PH where 1,200 isn't much but it will at least cover the basics

I live in olongapo too..
Cebu is Manila 2.0. Davao, CDO, Iloilo and Bacolod I think are better alternatives.
If you want a truly provincial retirement, I'd recommend Palawan, Panglao/Bohol, and Bukidnon.
Yea, I'll be making a video on Bohol soon
Netherland’s people are Dutch. And having lived in both Tagatay and Dumaguete/Valencia, prefer Dumaguete as it gets less severe weather events/typhoons.
I hear ya. Living in Tagaytay can be unpredictable in terms of weather which is its biggest flaw.

I like Iloilo as well and surprised it wasn’t on the top 3.
Dose it have beautiful beaches ?

ILOILO city is the BEST! Modern, very clean, low crime and loving people.
Will definitely be doing more retirement videos! Matter of fact, my next video will be on Baguio retirement so stay tuned for that Arnel 💯
Baguio becomes so over populated during holidays, especially at Christmas (Pasko) and Easter (Pascha). And Baguio had become expensive.
Subic, you say!
Thanks...I’ve been googling around searching for marinas, boats for sale , etc.
I’ll check that now...

With $7k you could even retire in Hawaii
Been in Dumaguete 2.5 years now. My costs are on the high end but I have a partner and child to support. But I know people, even with a filipina, that get by on $1000 a month. Duma itself is a little congested but there are areas outside the city that are very nice. Im in Valencia which is about 8km west up into the foothills of the mountains. Its a little cooler, more rainy, but more expensive.
Thanks for sharing Michael. Sound like life there is treating ya good.

Great video. Thanks! I love lots of places in the Philippines, but Dumaguete and Butuan are amongst my favorite.

Ilo Ilo is close to Boracay and it has its own Gigantes Islands. It should be Ilo Ilo vs. Cebu. Because Duma is not as bustling. As for Tagaytay, a better option might be Baguio, the summer capital and city of pines.

If you are still young and active and want to go to beaches , mountains and want active
night life .. then Cebu City is the place.
If you are older and want quiet night life with amenities and services close by then
Dumaguete or even Cagayan or Davao would fit.
It depends on individuals really.
I am from Cebu but if i pick a place in Cebu it's probably the Mactan area close to the beach
which also happens to be few minutes close to the airport. It's more quiet than living
close to Metro Cebu which the traffic is a nightmare.
I hope Philippines follows the lead of Thailand and have more JCI accredited hospitals (Thailand has 20+ I believe like Turkey)
Also streamline the Fintech infrastructure or online payments to allow more International Health Insurance like Pacific Cross to be more accessible.
Me and my White Canadian Fiance want to live in a homestead there but I don't want to be a fool without having $ invested for Health Care

Interesting

Now I see why no one had the initiative to marry her ^^
