I had a set of Snap-on mid length sockets that I used quite a bit. When I was working at the dealership there were no Cornwell dealers in my area. I always wanted a Cornwell flex head ratchet. I prefer the ball detent over the v notch. Where I am now there was a Cornwell dealer but he retired a couple years ago. I need another set of mid length sockets. I was going to get the ICON but after hearing that the chrome peels I think I'll look for a better option.
The Icon are hit and miss. They might be just fine, a perfect replica of the snap on or they might be junk. Either way it’s only $40 or so. The Cornwell to me was more about just having some real Ohio Made Sockets as they are getting kinda rare.
@MLieser Capri and Sunex both have mids for sale in the same price range as the Icon. They are impact sockets but both on the thin side and Sunex has a 12 point option. I have multiple tool boxes so I’ve got them and use them all pretty regular. The Capri set is on a tray between Sunex shallow and deep. The mids all show a little wear and tear while there are still some unused shallows and deeps after about a year in my socket drawer.
Cornwell has awesome hardline / USA sockets. I wish they did a deeper taper on the deep impacts, but they are incredibly strong / durable. Clearly made to old school standards.
X2, on the Gearwrench. I have a full set of Snap on mids, but keep the Gearwrench mids in my tool cart. I think I picked them up at around $30.00 a set on Amazon a few years back when they were discounted and couldn’t pass it up. If you’re just starting out you won’t believe how much you’ll grab mid length sockets. Always appreciate your videos Frosty ☃️

I’ll take the gearwrench semi deep
I like the Gearwrench, they are slightly longer but still work very well.
