Great looking ports! What you said about ports makes sense. I've seen SBC heads that were so hogged out that the center dividers between the intake ports were paper thin. There was hardly any sealing surface.
That was common practice years ago and from different perspectives it sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t. There were a ton of manifolds built for small blocks like that including the small 53 series blower intakes. I had the honor and privilege of knowing and working with and for some great minds in racing. Porting is like picking a cam, ask the same question to 10 people and get 7 or 8 different answers . Rule #1. “Never remove or destroy the short side radius” Rule #2. “You don’t pick up airflow from places it’s easy to put the grinder” Rule #3. Making the hole bigger won’t flow more air if you l can’t get it to go around the corner without stalling.
@@peterchristlieb A friend recently told me about an issue with a poor running Formula 5000 engine his friend ran into. It's an aluminum 302 SBC with Kinsler FI. The engine wouldn't idle below 1600 RPM and would overheat after 5 laps around Lime Rock. The owner of the car is in his 70s and has a race shop store, maintain and transport the car to the track. The support clown they sent topped off the water and told him to stay out of traffic. I was told that the heads have been heavily ported and the dividers are vey thin. The clowns thought the injection system was at fault. They sent the whole system to Kinsler. Kinsler reported that they could find nothing wrong. Engine still wasn't right. Turns out one of the geniuses at this shop forgot the intake manifold gasket on one bank.
I’ve gotten a few requests so I guess we should get one. I need another moflow1 first but I suppose in a month or so we could get a Gage Warhead in the name of Science
Im currently building up my tilly 212E. Chromoly pushes, SS valves (27 & 25) ported up the head myself, 26# springs, EC aluminum retainers and split keepers, Fire 265 cam feeding my Mega moto 212 with a juggernaut. Tops about 55-58 right now. You ever throw the EC stroker kit on a hemi? Wondering how the flat top and stroker crank will treat my valves! That's my next plan. This bike eats like a wild pig right now...keeps up with the kids 95 RM125 lol
Amen Frosty! That's why I love the Hemi heads! That thing is gonna flow like the Mississippi. Top shelf work my friend!
Mr Chris, I just hope the points I was getting at made sense. Any praise from a man of your talents is incredibly kind.
