I said it once and I'll say it again I love how your house's carpet has held up for all these year's. Doesn't look wore out or dingy at all for it's age.
I just got and cleaned/restored an Oreck XL 3700 for my parents. My mother is recovering from an ankle surgery (on top of other injuries from years ago) and my father just had hernia surgery, so I figured a feather weight vacuum would be the best idea for them. Only issue is it is *really* loud. A bad bearing on the brush roll (replacement is coming) is part of the problem, but even without it that vacuum is easily the loudest I've ever used.
His camera mic makes this particular model oreck seem to be much louder than it actually is. The xl2 model with its sound dampening fam housing design was a vast improvement over the original oreck not only in just cleaning power but also in noise level.
Vast improvement? That would be false. Check out the formal noise measurements here. ua-cam.com/video/SO46FSEq53I/v-deo.html And my LG V30 stereo mics do not artificially "boost" the noise level. Everything is set at factory zero dB gain with no compression.

Does a great job on grooming the carpet. Was that one that you refurbished?
Yup, check my XL21 playlist for all the refurb and testing videos.
Do you have shoes for inside and shoes for outside?
Nope. Same shoes for inside and outside. Typical for North America. We don't actually track in any appreciable dirt either.
My mom had the same one a long time ago it was such a good vacuum
