  • FREE FUEL!!!! :-)
This video shows a system I made for filtering wasted motor oil (WMO) which can be fuel for older diesel engines.
Various oils can be used for fuel: motor oil, diff oil, brake fluid, hydraulic oil, transmission fluid etc.
This fuel is also called black diesel.
    My Jeep likes it! :-)
    Test vehicle:
    1997 Jeep Cherokee XJ
2.5 VM Motori turbo diesel engine (factory installed)
    5 speed manual transmission
    NP231 Command Trac transfer case
    Rusty's 3 inch lift kit
31x10.5x15 Cooper Discoverer STT PRO tires

probably.. your end fuel has a higher cetane. Problem will be your likely getting more uncombusted fuel as well though. You will want to find something your happy with to clean out your combustion chambers (run some cleaner thru engine more often..... and/or water injection, water methanol, or HHO as an engine cleaning tool. ) also injection cleaner to clean injection system. Do this at much higher intervals than you normally would

I was the KING of alternate fuel here in Chicago!! I used over 35,000 gallons of transformer oil in my Detroit and 855 Cummins powered old trucks for years, straight in the tank without ANY admixing! The trucks ran great! Needed ether a little warmer than Diesel would. Did it from 1995 until it got hard to get in the early 2000s. I did use several thousand gallons about 8 years ago after a transformer job on the CSS&SB railroad. I did mix it with 50-50 Diesel since it went into newer macks with E7 computerized engines. Take THAT, IFTA!!!!

I think the idea is fine - but the filter you are using is really for a final "spit and polish" of already clean fuel. If you are trying to filter the grot out of WMO, I think MUCH larger filters would make more sense - perhaps a simple cascade:-
Untreated > settled tank > 100 micron filter > 50 micron filter > 20 micron filter > 5 micron filters > 1 micron filter. Tradition then has it, that if you mix this with around 20% petrol/gasoline then you have a product sufficiently diesel-like that even most modern diesels will handle it.
If using the ten inch water filter housings and the pleated filters, they are CHEAP and apparently work well.
With your existing setup, I would think the filters will block (and just bypass) extremely quickly - and are then expensive to replace.
Also your first filter enclosure (they are cheap, you can have a few), can simply pass the WVO over as strong a magnet as you can fit in the filter. A lot of garages will put ALL the crud into the waste oil tank, including the sludge. The magnet "filter" costs almost nothing, never needs replacing (just the odd clean), and can collect a surprising amount of crud.

    • @V8AmericanMuscleCar
      @V8AmericanMuscleCar  Рік тому +5

First, I let the WMO sit for a few weeks to let the impurities sink to the bottom and then I filter the oil. In the meantime, I added two more filters, 5 and 1 micron, and I mix that oil with gasoline. Works well but I don't like the smell. 😁

Amazing, and simple setup, my suggestion would be to thin your oil with your clean diesel prior to filtration.
My theory (and in my testing shows to be true ) is that particulate would be released from the thinner fluid easier as well as running through the pumps faster, I would build a pump setup like that given I had the space necessary.
    I live in the states, drive a 1985 Mercedes 300D turbo OM617A

Now I thin the oil before refilling, but not because I had problems. The pump more easily pours the fuel it the tank. LOL This thing will run on everything that is poured into the tank.

Old turbo diesel engines with a mechanical pump work best on alternative fuels. Diesel engines without turbo, at least as I read, can sometimes have problems with injectors but I can't say that from my own experience.

I ran a 1998 12 valve Cummins on Black Diesel but I mixed it with RUG about 15% or 20% when it was really cold. My engine did not run smooth at high rpm on pump diesel but with the BD it ran 100%.
The gasoline thins it out for our colder climate but in the summer I thinned it with either gas or diesel depending on which one was cheaper at the pumps. The only real way too filter it right is with a centrifuge though.

I tim redoslijedom dosta dugo traju.

Što se ovog kućišta tiče, najbolje je u auto-dijelove ili trgovina za traktorske dijelove pa vidiš šta imaju i složiš nešto slično. the further away from an older mechanical injection diesel that you can actually manipulate the timing of when the fuel is injected.. the further you get from using any alternative diesel fuel efficiently. Diesel engines are timed to be combustion efficient for diesel fuel's ignition characteristics. Ultra computerized engines even finer tuned to this. Each alternative fuel has different combustion characteristic.... so to keep engine working happy you have to do something to either
      1. create an alternative fuel that is near exact in combustion characteristics to diesel
      2. change /trick the engines injection system to inject/ ignite the alternative fuel based on that fuels combustion characteristics.

This will be more invisible as it is coming out of the tail pipe and a lung/atmosphere pollution issue. You can clean wmo of the nasty., would be much better to use as fuel, but you have to rid of the nasty waste. That is the.... issue for a DIY person..... what to do with the waste. It is the same waste/pollution that would have gone into air if you were just running a wmo blend in the fuel tank... just condensed down into a more compacted collection of yuck that when dumped would be a bad thing for the land and animals. can't win here.
Wish I had an answer cause I want to do this too. To remove much of the contaminants use the same way WMO recycler's do; you treat it with acid to make the crap drop out. wikipedia gives brief explanation of process if you search "Recycled motor oil". Then if you want to crack the motor oil down to something closer to diesel... that process is called Pyrolysis .
am debating how Im going to go about it myself. Leaning toward acid clean and cracking further down to something closer to diesel by getting dual use of part of a Plastic Pyrolysis apparatus since the steps are near identical... in particular the last stages.

Well I figured that petrol is a bad idea to thin your wmo. It does a great job making the oil thinner but after you stop the engine the petrol evaporated on the hot injector tip making it hard to start so I switched to diesel which worked fine hot and cold. I modified my glow plug relais so it pre glowed 45 seconds no matter what the temperature was. My biggest problem was smoke under heavy load and a leaking injector pump. The smoke was a blown turbo hose and I changed the gaskets on the injector pump. Worked like a dream but unluckily somebody rear ended m, car catastrophically. Not worth fixing it and it probably was impossible too. The rear axle moved forward about 10cm so sold it. Somebody came and bought it for the parts. In between I had a car with LPG and for some waste oil fun a Peugeot 106 diesel. I got the 106 for free so of course I took it. It ran much better with the waste oil. It'd start right up even at -5 with almost 100% waste oil. But slow and loud. I gave it away to a family friend who just made his driving licence. So now I'm driving on LPG as it's also very cheap and far less of an hassle as 4 months ago my son was born. How is your experience so far.
