Hey Dala, I have a 2021 Leaf. I am in the talks with a company making me a 'yoke' style steering wheel for my Leaf. They're currently manufacturing it. I'm glad there's someone who is constantly creating content on the Leaf, and to be someone who's Finnish makes it 100% better! Torille!
Your doing great work. For those of us using the leaf/invertor only in our EV projects, Do you have any plans on how we can use the PDM unit for charging and DC/DC ? Thanks
Hi Dala, we may have someone that can help us :) over on github :) i can send my round plug over if u need to make up a cable for them to use without impacting warranty. I have my 160kw inverter still out of the car. Nice wheels!
Hi, any update on the CCS conversion. Just about to buy a new EV and there are some great deals on Nissan Leafs, but only want one if I can see a viable upgrade path. Thanks,
Commercial CCS conversions are happening everyday for Nissans at the Muxsan workshop. This is a open source hobby version that I am developing. I wouldn't worry about it :)
Dear Dala, I purchased a Leaf Tekna 62 kWh new 2020. I only charge it home 230v. As I never use a rapid charge can I charge the battery to 100% without damage rather than trying to work out the charge timer which really is a nuisance. Thanks.
Charging to 80% is better if possible, but I don't think you will see much difference. LEAF batteries seem to be more temperature sensitive compared to cycle sensitive!
So your pack hit 356v and the 62 hit 357, both packs in the mid 80s , 180kw might put yours down another volt ? Either way not enough so trigger issue and yours would show lower if one cell was sagging. 400a is such a specific limit and makes me think that Nissan chose this on pre-production and later pushed it up when they noticed performance was impacted by the pack weight on the 62kwh and set a toggle for it. That toggle is the canbus we are after. Its true the inverter firmware is the only difference on the 110 and 160 yeh ? Its interesting to note the latest revision of CHAdeMO is 400a exactly! Mmm
Oh nice i was 1 second off guessing what the 145kw would do to 100. Im thinking u might get a better time with adjusting the nm start value? And smaller radius wheels for better gearing? Ive also wondered if a change of the final gearing would work, all be it an insanely costly part to have made. Id be happy with a 110km top speed and some serious torque :) 180kw should do a 6 second flat. Thats same as model 3 :) also maybe u can program it to drop the hvac when over 120kw ? Did u have any slip with 225 ? Ive heard 255s can fit on the front, the leaf has huge wheel wells.
Yes this was with a bit of slip, and not so accurate measurement, so actual time might be +-0.3s I too think that 180kW should net 6s or below, this will be so exiting when we get it figured out :)
@@DalasEVRepair i think my battery pack is 100kg less weight than the 40kwh so i might get a slightly better time :) though voltage sag may be higher :)
Wait. You increased power, but whar about torque? As far as i remmember first 3 seconds on stock leaf are limited by max torque. Powere kimit comes much later on 4th second from start
Torque demand is pegged at 400NM at full throttle when running the CAN-bridge. It does not matter if you send 400 or 600NM, it will cap to 340NM which is max for the 160kW inverter. See source code here: github.com/dalathegreat/Nissan-LEAF-Inverter-Upgrade/blob/main/can-bridge-inverter.c#L361
@@DalasEVRepair - i think hes talking about when full power is served up, not the max ? The Hyundai Kona for instance lets you light up the tyres with no traction control turned on, delivering full torque. With the leaf and the TC off, the first 1-2 seconds feel limited in torque and purposely programmed in to go easy on the gears and drive shafts. Can you preload the motor with the brakes on, i haven't tried it yet, maybe that will give u some advantage on launch.
I would prefer to see you put your intelligence, time and effort into more usefull and sustainable projects, like you used to do. Thank you. What about a selfmade V2G-Setup with a HV-battery grid converter, with you making the "communication black box" between Chademo and the battery inverter?

Loistavaa 🙌😁
I just bought a 2023 Leaf 40, Im glad i will have a future upgrade path when the warranty runs out.
Keep up the good work Dala. Watching this eagerly 🤟⚡🙏
Good job, Dala! I do nit have leaf plus yet, sadly.
Dala, have you looked into stiffer urethane or aluminum subframe bushings or control arm bushings. Would help put the pwr down.
Suspension video coming soon 😉
Wow! Super! I`m want it too
You know what to do)
Have you checkedthe motor power curves on other Leafs with 180kw? Maybe the max powercan onl be outputed at certan rpm?
If someone has an e+, would be interesting to see!

Updated the Github thread with more info on how to log!
hahahhaha what an intro! ROCK ON! 💪🤘
May be it's stupid idea but, is it possible that traction control is limiting max power?
There must be a limit to how much power the motor can handle ?
Can the battery hold those 400A? Ir even 500A?

If i charge to 100% i drive soon as its done, sotting around at 100% aint good. Then again leaf batteries are probably only charging to 90% ?
@@jestronixhanderson9898 there is a built-in buffer ye, but always better to try not to let it sit at 100%

The hardware inside the inverters are slightly different also, so I don't think we'll see 110kW inverters being flashed to 160kW
Hi Dala, any success on the 180kw unlock ?
Hi,
Progress/attempts are reported daily/weekly over at the Dala's Patreon Discord server by beta testers!

Inverter only want torque request. Power is torque*rpm)
hi, do you still need the e+ leaf log?
Hi, got them already over at github.com/dalathegreat/EV-CANlogs
