I love everything about this. The style, the atmosphere, the color palette, the environment. The music was perfect. I loved the way the camera floated gently around, giving a sense of space. And most of all the elegantly condensed story. Some of the animation was a little stiff but that didn't bother me. For what seems to be a very smal team, essentially a one person project, it was amazing. Deeper and more emotional than similar length videos by big studios. One of my new favorites.
The first moment I wondered about the low poly and simple rendering, but in the next moment I was captured by the story and i forgot all that. Plainly amazing
I've done bits of kayaking, rafting and camping in unusual parts of the world and I have dogs who are good friends. I found this very evocative and real. The dismal feel of isolation is very well portrayed as is both movement and space. I think elaborate textures and bright colours would have distracted greatly from the mood and the simplicity of two creatures' struggle for survival.
That story truly made me smile, and I mean from inside out.😆 God, I'm so glad that had a happy ending. And people don't understand we love our pets so much. They're a lot smarter and in tuned with their surroundings then we are at times, and the companionship they supply us with is immeasurable.😊 Thank you so very much. I really needed this right about now. Really, thanks a lot.
Totally loved it...the camera work from the dog to the survivor again back to the dog to the nature...just awesome along with the entire creativity.....best part...he did not leave the dog....that restored some humanity for sure...
Oh man I don't understand why people flat out dislike this but I think all the choices in style, design, shaky camera, etc. go really well together and with the story. I think you killed it basically. No one talked about the score but wow, if you immerse yourself in the score, the design aspect starts to work. With the help of this beautiful soundtrack, I was so captivated by the story. Bravo! People should stop being so technical because the camera work worked so well for me. It might not have worked in a live action film but it totally worked here.
All alone of just the two, Who wish to go the lighthouse view. Down they went on the stormy sea, Of raging tides and wave gone spree. Lost a friend he then go back, But bound from start his hope now lack. And toss the chance they all alone, To find a plane that take them home.
And through the bitter night, On and on did he fight But all was not lost for he had a friend One whom would allow his lonely heart to mend And so in the bitter night two friends did journey To find their way home.
And when time came to set out to sea, Did they both embark with glee However, Neptune's Wrath seized his friend But he decided, it was not yet time for his end.
Good job with the animation. Minimalistic approach with the design which kept the focus on the story rather than trying to get the perfect characters made.
No matter how bad the situation is, there is no point on sulking and giving up. Do something to make a change. If you end up back in the same shithole. You just have to learn to enjoy it live in it and it won't seem as ba and d as it it. Eventually help will come
+Andrea Venice this makes me think of a situation of possible ending , that he would cut down more trees during the time that he had his axe sharpened, and planted the seeds from the trees that felt down to the ground too , so the boy will survive and there will be enough trees to produce oxygen for him and dog , there will be enough wood to make boats from to explore more of a forgotten land of cliffs , there will be enough wood to make a fireplace to dont freeze to death during the night , and probably as the trees grow there is probably not only one type of a tree that is just pure wood without any fruits/eatable food on tree"s branches.. if you readed whole coment.. you probably already re-thinked how important is to keep nature up , just as all the animals and trees do.. without speaking.. they are just doing it.. sometimes i feel better when im with animals rather then humans.. animals dont need to say a single word to tell you how much they like or appreciate you.. they dont need attention 24/7 to stay alive , they dont need expensive car / big luxus house / girl that everyone can be jelaous if you have her becasue of her look not her personality.. i really do think animals are the ones that we have to learn from how to live happy.. thanks for reading have a good day..
+Part of EloHell Animals are better than people. They don't care how much money you make, they don't care how you look, or what kind of car you drive. All they care about is that you like them, and love them.
wonderful powerful narrative and the graphics fit exact..... an excellent video in every aspect.... thanks sincerely to all and for this upload.... my great dane guided me through severe illness in ways difficult to comprehend
Pets teach us something very important, it's not about race, it's not about species, love is love and whoever loves you doesn't love you because of what they are, they love you because of who they are and who you are. Don't be as shallow as to say one trait makes something closer to you than others, it's about the love and nothing more. I have felt love from many animals, dogs, cats, horses, parrots, pigs and even a lizard, all of them loved me and I loved all of them, regardless of their species.
I cannot believe the LOW CRAWLING trolls that post on You Tube. This animated short was a wonderful meaningful BRILLIANT creation! Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU! I will sleep better today knowing that there are feeling artists out there putting up things that make me feel good.
that was awesone. loved the aesthetic feel and look- they did something different than most people folks. originality. did you use some sort of practical camera in a motion controlled environment to do the camera moves or were they all animated inside of the 3d program? Great work.
Ikr, I don't get why everyone hates the texture and the camera being shaky I think it adds a realistic feel to it I think this might just be my fav animation I love the realist ice feel it gives me!
instead of a town it should have been a boat, the town isnt going anyway while a boat is making the decision between going after it or saving the dog more weighty and dramatic
I don't understand why he didn't just shoot a flare towards the town, it looks close enough to see such a thing, especially since they appear to be searching for him.
OMG THANK GOODNESS I THOUGHT HE WOULD KILL THE DOG OR LEAVE THE DOG OR DO SOMETHING TO THE DOG AND I WAS HOPING THIS WOULD END FASTER BECAUSE THE FASTER IT ENDED THE LESS TIME HE HAD TO DO SOMETHING TO THE DOG
there are three things to remember as starship captain: 1. keep your shirt tucked in, 2. alawys look them in the eye and 3. never abandon a member of your crew. ok so i'm not sure on two, but three is the one that counts anyways
I really appreciate the movie. It was awesome, dog has a great senses than human's. I thought he would kill the dog when they stranded again but I was so surprised because he just hug the dog even though his struggling then a moment later the dog was barking and get the signal gun..it was so amazing coz of dog they get the attention of the airplane and rescued.
Anyone else find the dog a bit uncanny, the way it moved? It didn't seem affected by gravity, especially how it lifted an axe with seemingly no effort and started running around with it. Also, it ran off ahead of the man, then suddenly appeared behind him. That dog's kind of eerie...
I recommend you all to watch the movie "All Is Lost". A man is hit by a ship-container (which contained shoes) and has to survive. Surviving storms, desperations, and hardships. It is a non-dialogue movie, btw guys. This guy is alone completely, so he will not talk. The ONE, ONE word he says in the entire movie is "fuh-fff-fffuuuuuuuuck" ( XD ) when he runs out of water, and has to figure out how to get water on his own (that is not salt water). I believe he is in the Pacific. BIG RECOMMENDATION GUYS! GO
Although the animation could be better, I think the story was absolutely Beautiful!! P.S. I was really afraid for the dog, but the fact that he choose his furry boy over the town made me cry!
Amazing work! I would greatly appreciate it if someone shares with us the technique behind it. E.g. was it all done inside a 3D app or composed in a vid compositing app? How did you achieve this flat textures of 3D surfaces? What was pure 3D render and what was vid cards in Nuke, if that was the technique? Etc...
It looks like they keyframed all the animation then filmed it by using an oculus rift to record with, now that would be camera work I would like to see, an oculus rift cameraman
Good story I like the idea and I can look past the textures or rather lack there of but the shaking cam for the entire thing really took me out of it, hints are great for dramatic affect like at the height of the rafting but everywhere else is very unnecessary. The elephant in the room has got to be the model for the man.... You had the resources and it's good to be different don't get me wrong but he was not appealing to the eye at all. All in all 5/10.
Kenny BS This short was great. You're entitled to a preferred taste but don't look past this film's aesthetics just because you may not like the way it looks. In particular the lighting, composition, color schemes, and perspective dynamics are all really good. It's a bit cynical to rate something of such high quality so low.
a robinson crusoe story. the movements were natural and the story well told. but i wished it was less hazy and more detailed. for a journey into a dreamworld, click o my thumbnail.
i can understand modeling and textures, but i didnt liked animation of a dog (especially its legs) and dudes eyes not looking at the same point, which makes him look little like idiot lol
I can't get past the dismal design choices. The characters are hideous. The textures are flat and uninteresting. And for the love of bacon, who puts shaky cam in an ANIMATED FILM? I felt nauseous as early as the 30 second mark!
Do you make any sort of CGI ? This is one man project, here this kind of critic do not apply!!! Exactly becouse the style is not commercial this animation is interesting - it is honest and free. The style of low-poly low-texture is great, minimal approach - it tells this little story with exactly the right amount of information! The camera work was very expressive, gives a feeling of playfulness and freedom! It is quite a pain to make it so organic also! The character animation is very organic too! Great soundtrack, dreamlike story!
+Amelia Bee It's just an art style, you just don't like it! +Alex piv No,the poor choice was to make everything like it took place in silent hill! +Nebelom everyone need criticism, how do you think they will emprove!
That dumb dog though! I know a lot of animal lovers will not like this comment, but first it took his axe, so he was distracted and missed the plane the first time, then it fell off the boat and he had to o back to get it. I like dogs, but something about this dog was really annoying.
It is not necessary to be better than something to point out it's faults. I don't have to be smarter than you to point out your dumb fuck comment... but it does make it more fun.
Yup, when you got your priorities straight, things fall into place.
Loved the movement of the dog, so realistic.
Flow is going to be one of the greatest animated films ever...❤
Warm regards from Argentina.

The one shot camera angle was both aggravating, yet extremely impressive at the same time.
No matter what you want to do, the DOG is ALWAYS going to be right.

Beautiful story. Hang on, I got something in my eye. Damn onions.
Beautiful, artistic. Loved the decision to steer clear of photo realism.

woowww
Lovely dude!
Life of Pi: The Sequel, yet Animated Edition xD I like the design and the execution.
Magical . Getting my priorities together . May my jack Maxx rest in peace. 😎😊😎
Good job with the animation. Minimalistic approach with the design which kept the focus on the story rather than trying to get the perfect characters made.
Man's very best friend.
It's a truly wise man who knows what his priorities are.
Beautifully done...enjoyed it very much!!! (the simpleness of the characters combined with the interesting textures, and movement - well done!)

OMG I WAS EXPECTING HIM TO LEAVE HIS DOG BUT FINALLY, SOMEONE HAS HEARD US ANIMAL LOVERS CALLS! HALALUYAH
The Dog was his best friend.
How could you think he was
going to leave the dog behind?
Animals have better instinct than humans. The Dog knew there was a plane on that rain and fog even though the human cannot see it.
ANIMALS RULE!! :)
this proves dogs are better than people
He didn't listen to the dog but respected it, payed off anyway, goodness does sooner or later...
At least he had a dog. Mans best friend. Tom Hanks only had a ball!
dogs will always be man's best friend 🐕 ❤

i love the art style... reminds me of windwaker
Actually, I liked the camera work
Simply beautiful!
Well done. Excellent story.
I was so scared he wouldn't go back. Made me cry when he did.
for the dog?
Yes. I was scared for the dog!
Stellar
best short I've seen here.

Je trouve ça vraiment intéressant à quel point le monsieur essaie de se sauvé de l'île. Tout en pensant à son chien. C'est un peu émouvant.😊

Nice, I love how they worked with the camera angles, however it felt too shaky some times, still, great short

+Sarah Kogan cámara hijo! u spoiled me the short...
+Sarah Kogan I was thinking the same thing but I was more than happy the way it ended, a really true happy ending :'-)
DonRiata Sorry! I usually hate spoilers! I didn't mean to put this one in :)
+Sarah Kogan same!!
The textures they used made me feel like I was playing a video game.
Reminded me of that dragon, cancer.
there are three things to remember as starship captain: 1. keep your shirt tucked in, 2. alawys look them in the eye and 3. never abandon a member of your crew.
ok so i'm not sure on two, but three is the one that counts anyways
You need to animate video games this is the perfect type of animation for that.
Nice story!
I really appreciate the movie. It was awesome, dog has a great senses than human's. super duper wonderful exllent very nice
Nice. Thanks.
There were numerous times that I thought the guy was going to injure the dog.
we're two -_-
amazing story. The animation was good enough but it could've been less blurry
I've done a little CGI work and when you're doing it alone, you have to make sacrifices to get your film finished.
Yup, when it comes to priority, even dogs are better than us....
wow amazing
Anything with dogs and airplanes!
Amazing!!!
Anyone else find the dog a bit uncanny, the way it moved? It didn't seem affected by gravity, especially how it lifted an axe with seemingly no effort and started running around with it. Also, it ran off ahead of the man, then suddenly appeared behind him. That dog's kind of eerie...
Bro its a animated film it doesnt matter
I like the style, it sucks you into this world,...
How sweet

P.S. He dies by drowning himself in the end, but still a superb movie! GO WATCH
yeah i watched that movie. it was very deep and moving.
+Magic_Zach Dude...have you just recommended a movie and spoiled it afterward?! O.o
Nooo.... ;-) ssssshhhhh...
Watch the movie and find out. But he's surviving ALONE, but the ONLY words he says in the ENTIRE movie, are "Help!" and "Fuuuuuuuuuuuck!!" XD

Camera,3d models, who cares. The story surpasses all.
No...no, it really doesn't.
The story was great, the aesthetic really doesn't matter in the end.
Amelia Bee yes yes it does.
wow!
I believe the animals can talk directly to the God they can hear the God whispers. Specially the dogs, dogs are the humans best friend
yay happy ending c:
Linda historia!
Mind = Blown!

The island looks like KRABI THAILAND ❤
I hope so .... liked
family is the priorities. hasty not a good idea.
Good. But it was humid. It made it feel itchy to the skin.
i like the story but that guy needs eye surgery really soon before they fall out lol keep up the good work
Wry odd choice of style, it was 3d but there was practically no texture or shading so it looked 2d.
I bet the man ends up eating the dog or something
Or he saves the dog, but the dog isn't helping him as he drowns.
Good story I like the idea and I can look past the textures or rather lack there of but the shaking cam for the entire thing really took me out of it, hints are great for dramatic affect like at the height of the rafting but everywhere else is very unnecessary.
