I love the Coticule ending as that is how I finish my edges plus a short run on the black ark. The lighting looked good to me. I saw everything I wanted to see. Appreciate your videos more than you know! I may have to try and get one of his razors soon. Thanks Dr. Matt!! Best
Great video drMatt! I was surprised you honed pretty the same way I do my AR Capitaine from Yurii with 2 layers of tape and a Thuringian type slate(Not sure what it really is). I do a few passes on a denim strop pasted with Dovo black after stones and its as close and smooth a shave as any. Thanks for the video!! Scott
This is one of the things that I do miss about using straight razors and that's putting an edge on the razor. Great video Dr. Matt. Everything looked great. The angle was perfect and I could see everything with the sharpening process. The lighting was really good and I could see everything clearly and the audio was perfect. That Coticule finish at the end was a very nice surprise alternate ending. I do miss using straight razors from time to time and I still have my stones and other equipment.
Great vid, Dr. Matt! I enjoyed the angles on the sharpening sequences, I could see everything. Lighting, I prefer slightly brighter, but that’s just my preference. I recently got a Yurii Kravchenko 8/8 Consul razor - great steel, but I bet it’d be even better with a Dr. Matt edge. Sounds like the Escher worked great!
Another great one! Thanks for doing all these videos. I've learned a ton from you. Can I ask what the grind is on that particular razor? I don't have a very heavy beard, but I don't seem to get along well with full hollows. With a custom razor by Yurii, I could get whatever grind I want, so... Also, is that 8/8" or 7/8"?
After watching your vids, I see that I need more strokes on the different stones. I use a Norton 8k and then to a Imperia La Roccia 12-15k. Do you have any suggestions? Regards, Rick
hello DrMatt, I really like your channel for a long time. I find it more complete than others because you do honning, shaving but you are the only one to have these incredible images of the edges. This allows us to see the concrete result of a honing technique or a stone and to have your shaving result. I find that the images from your microscope are not present enough. there would be a lot of video to do with this tool that really shows what our imagination tells us.
Thank you Calou and I’m glad you enjoy the content. It’s funny that you say that about the slides because my detractors criticize me for the same thing you’re praising me for. 😆 They say I rely too much on the scope and the ONLY thing that matters is the shave and I’m FOS! Speaking of slides and material, I recently spent some time going through my slide library that I have over 1000 slides of some really cool stuff I logged when I was bored. From crazy progressions to damaged to corrected edges and just good vs bad. I’ve thought of just making a video of me going over them and what I found and what it can indicate but then I thought it may be boring and not much interest to most. 🤷🏻♂️

Also... Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, but it seems to me that your angle is much more shallow that what I was told. I read 30 degrees is ideal, but it looks to me like you use maybe 10 degrees?
Hey Johnny B., great to hear from you and always appreciate you stopping by. Thank you for the feedback. I was playing with the camera mount last night and figured out a very cool angle for the sharpening sequences so we’ll see how it goes on the next one. 😃
oh hell yes doc awesome razor . what a finishing stone indeed 👍 one thing i might say my friend the camera angle when your on the stones could possibly do with a different look i know it’s a tricky one but was difficult to see the blade run over the stones as in seeing the edge because of the hand position saw more of your hands . but the lighting is all good . have a good one buddy 👌
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, when my left hand is on the blade it does block but had that issue when Dani was filming too. I’ll try and minimize that. 😁
@@drmatt357 no worries mate . i have that sink bridge and it’s excellent. saves me some serious ear bashing off the wife for not making a mess on the front room table 🤣🤣🤣
Hey Dr. Matt, new to your channel. Personally I suggest skipping the music altogether, since it allows to listen to the shaving sounds rather than being distracted ... It was perfect in one of your comparison videos ...
I don’t think you can get the nano cloth anymore Joe but a piece of leather will work with this CBN emulsion. Not a spray but like a cream you smear on a small piece of leather and you’re GTG. www.chefknivestogo.com/ckcbnsp05mi.html

@@jessepatch9076 I asked specifically about the diamond plate because in that case I disagree. You're creating a slurry of the base stone and even if there are grooves in the stone from a coarse plate, the peaks of the grooves or the part of the stone actually touching the metal is still the grit of the base stone, say the 5K I used the 400 diamond to surface. I've debated this question with others so I understand your thinking but what my face and scope tell me agree with my view. Now if you're using a 400 grit stone to surface a 5K stone and there is slurry on the 5K stone from the 400, then yes, you would be correct.
I find that each time I hone a razor after watching your video I get a much better edge🤣🤣
Please keep the honing video's coming they are amazing
Thank you and you do get better edges!😉
I have 3 of Yurii’s razors and love them all! He’s also a super nice guy.

You're the best. Massive thanks for your videos. Always learning something from you.
Thanks Mate! I was looking at your channel and it looks like you’re from Italy. Is that right? If you are, I’ll wear my Rossi jersey next time. 😁

I should have sent you my 9/8 Riga razor to sort it out. That thing looks so awesome and the edge seemed really smooth. Great job as always Dr Matt.

Not crazy about the 4k, but the 8k Nortons work and feel great. I don't know why they get so much flack.

you do realise you should never surface a stone with one that is more coarse grit you make the stone more coarse when you do that
I gather you're talking about the 400 grit diamond plate on the 5 & 8K stones?
@@drmatt357 no im saying any stone if you use a higher grit stone on it to surface it the stone will become more coarse
