FAVERO Assioma PRO MX // How Tough Are They?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 гру 2024
- The most common question asked about power meter pedals, especially ones designed for off-road use, is "will they hold up?". In my experience the PRO MX have held up very well for all the conditions I've ridden them in. The same can't be said about the carbon cranks I've been using though!

2:47 Love the faint beep of your head unit after you fell
Came here to say the same thing. Auto pause activating just adds insult to injury.
@@andrewmcalister3462 i think that was garmin crash detection, no?
someone plz put 2:44 - 2:48 on loop
Used my pair since December (living in Italy had the possibility to early access the pedal with a strong discount). They work perfecty, just completed The Traka 360 yesterday with lots of mud and many water crossing. I think it’s totally the best power meter option for gravel and MTB
Shane I saw a comment at the back of one of your vids saying that this might be coming .. I waited patiently for something like a year or a year and a half for these to drop. Got mine on pre-order from the factory and they are absolutely fab! You can see the engineering culture at Favero in this product, they even provide standoff washers you can use to alter the q factor if you wish. 10/10 ☺️
I can't wait for an updated road pedal 😁
I think the only thing wrong with the current one is its big pod.
@@SonnyDarvish looking at the design of the new MX, they should be able to easily slip a LOOK or Shimano body over
@@SonnyDarvish nylon bushings too. The construction on this MX looks a lot tougher to me.
My IQ2 spd pedals have survived 4 years without a scratch.👍
So they haven’t “survived”, you don’t ride off pavement. 😂
I have a pair of assioma Duos for 5 years, love them. First rides on the MX on My Gravel bike And Mountainbike are done And i allready love them, too. They just work. Nothing else.
Got a pair, my very first power meter, just what I wanted! Good One Favero
I have mine a little over a week and they have already seen mud and rain. I am pretty happy with the purchase (I did purchase them because of your review). thanks for saving me from the Garmin rally xc200 that was my decision before your video. I dodged a bullet there.
Got mine 2 weeks ago with their preorder service, have used them both on the gravel bike and mountainbike as well as the indoor trainer, working great….
Assioma road have been smacked so hard many times and still work flawless. Love them, 100% trust them and can’t wait to get my hands on the mtb version for my gravel
These came just in time for a trip to Istria, & I've done several hundred gravel kilometers on them so far. Plenty of smaller and some large rock strikes. All good so far, but the real test will be MTB in the mountains. Regardless, a large part of the decision to buy was 7 years experience with road Assioma's (first UNO later DUO), which have been absolutely rock solid/faultless. Favero just seems to do things right.
This is exactly what I was looking for and needed to see. Best Shane ever!!
Hey Shane long time viewer, just wanted to say thank you for your work. Please tell the folks as FAVERO that I purchased the PRO MX pedals following you recent review. I love them! Wow I feel like I waited for just the right time to buy an awesome set of pedals. Thank you again.
Same here. I wouldn't buy those without Shane's review and opinion on both assioma duo and preview of pro mx
These pedals seem to be finally in stock at shops here in Germany. I was already thinking of starting my own UA-cam channel just to get my hands on them.
I received mine last Wednesday and they have been great. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the opportunity to ride them on the trails yet, as the Sunshine Coast trails are super wet from the rain we’ve had since December. So far though, in the rain, whilst riding on road, they have worked a treat. They feel very smooth through pedal rotation. I think I may have to just firm up the pedals to make my shoes feel a bit more secure. Hopefully I’ll get out on the trails next week and I’ll let you know how they go Shane.
Received my pedals a couple weeks ago, full credit to Favero for lightning fast fulfillment and shipping once they had stock. I've done a couple MTB and gravel rides, and so far all seems good. Haven't compared to any other data source, indoor trainer is put away for the summer, but my Fenix seems to think my FTP on the Favero's is in the same ballpark as it was on the trainer so I guess that's a good sign. The documentation with the pedals specifically indicated whatever "class" of riding they could handle, which included drops/jumps up to 60cm. I've definitely exceeded that a few times on the MTB and all good so far.
Main debate for me is whether I leave them on the MTB when I hit more impactful trails in Valemount or Bragg Creek later this summer.
cant wait for the pod-less update of the road version
Installed my new pair yesterday and took the SSXC bike out for a short but always hard 1 hour bash. They worked great and provided me similar data to my Sigeyi unit on my geared mtn bike. I have never used a power meter on my SS so I am intrigued to see how things go.... and how I can use the data collected to maybe help my gearing choices when riding a bike with gears and power...
Waiting for delivery 😀
Cleat cam is bleerrghhhh but also very cool. Definitely putting a set of these pedals on the Christmas list.
Thanks Shane. Appreciate the content 👌✌️
I got a pair a couple weeks ago and they've been flawless. I don't think the 4mm or whatever of clearance between the back of the spindle and chain is actually possible on a GRX 2x setup, but you get 2-3 with a single washer and I figured that's probably enough. Have not compared power numbers.
Crank boots -- meh, I just have bog standard GRX cranks and they're already beat up. No need to protect them and I don't like how boots look anyway.
I just got my MX pedals today. Got them installed and did a test ride. So easy and they work so well. I have Stages cranks on another bike and am excited to put them on that bike for a comparison. But so far thumbs way up for Favero especially after Garmin would not accept a discount code from two places for their overpriced pedals. PS: RIP Stages.
Great to hear!
Just got my Pro MX last week. We will see, I am not going to treat them gently like I did my garmins partly because the pedal body replacements arent expensive.
Go hard! (And keep me posted how they hold up!)
Before watching-- they better be tough because I literally just bought one yesterday
Not scratches and dings on your cranks, mate, rather badges of honor!
Got them a little over a week ago… did a muddy race on cyclocross bike… hit a few rocks. They still work great. Can you do a video how to grease the pedals with the two little plastic pieces that came with them?
Hi Claude. Great idea about the pedal maintenance video. In the meantime Favero have an official video up on their UA-cam covering this: ua-cam.com/video/GnQVhhrnvGs/v-deo.html
This is great!! Thanks for sending.
I used my Assioma Duo on my gravel bike. Which resulted in a crack in the housing and the right pedal giving up on life.
Thanks for this video! 1) I didn’t know crank boots were a thing until now. 2) how did you set up the camera for the pedal/crank shot?
The camera was a GoPro in a waterproof case to stop it from being destroyed… and taped to the bottom of my shoe.
@@gplamaHigh tech then eh? Innovative though.
once again: Great and honest review👌
A quick question, how worth is to buy the PRO MX 2 over the MX1? for the record, i don't have a major imbalance between legs - on road is the typical 52/48 L/R. Also, in XC races/marathons i believe this is not a "big" detail
It depends. If you’ll always be wondering if the data is correct or not, get the dual sided and never worry again. 👌🏼
@@gplama i know ..specially because i am "bit" of a data freak😅😅but those +300€ makes me wonder...because in XC the imbalances are quite natural due to terrain and etc
Hi shane, following your content for a while now and a lot of my purchases depend on reviews from you and dc rainmaker :) I want to install a power meter on my mtb (neuron cf9 sl). By now I know the assioma pro mx are the way to go (I ride spd style). My question: are the mx1 (one suffe) as accurate as the mx2 (dual side)? Is the only difference the indept analyses you can do with the mx2 of is there more to it? Thx for considering to answer and for your content! Gr mat
I got mine as well. And since I'm this type of guy, who always breaks things, I found the first issue with BT connectivity with my Polar watch. Pedals do pair with the watch but the watch doesn't receive any data. I also can't calibrate pedals fro the watch.
My engineering nose tells me it's rather issue with the watch but sth is off there.
Oh, and regarding comparisons - one side version gives me ~5% higher reading comparing to my tacx neo.Which is not bad, considering that my drive is shit ;-)
Edit: one more thing: I've noticed that my ProMX shows higher cadence (by ~1) comparing to my tacx neo. This might also explain a bit higher power, but I really didn't expect any difference here.
I've never been that bothered about a power meter for the gravel bike but my new frameset doesn't even have room for a cadence sensor on the crank arm as a result of the wider tyre clearance so I may have to start considering these.
haha! That's going to be an expensive cadence sensor. The upside is you'll get power data too! :)
Cadence - the gateway drug to power meters.
Couldn’t you just have it on the crank’s leading/trailing edge?
I wish I could give you another thumbs up just for reminding me to buy some crank boots :)
Hello, will it be enough to use the version that has a potentiometer in a single pedal for non-professional use?
Shane, do you have an Amazon link for crank boots made for the Shimano GRX 810?
Hello Shane, hope everything is well. Since you are one of the best users of all kind of powermeters, i would like your opinion on the following (if possible of course):
I've been using the Fávero Pro MX-1 since the beginning of August. So far so good, except for what happened to me on yesterday's ride where I got a maximum peak power of 1456W - ok it was in the beginning of a steep climb... Though it was odd that extremely high value...and I don't know what can caused that erroneous spike... before you ask: I didn't crash or hit the pedals through a rock or root. It wasn't raining and I didn't cross any river. It was hot yes, but not extremely hot.
What's even more odd is that Strava and Intervals didn't recognize that spike
Can you enlighten me what probably caused this?
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards
Any plans to review the magene pedals now that the updated version has been announced for overseas?
Another note. I really like how magene roll out the 'beta" product in china only, then after a while they release an update for world wide sale. They're doing the same for their new groupset. They've really been on top of their brand image management.
If I can get them, yes.
Re tip 2: that only works with the new form factor of the Pro MX since the boot would interfere with the body of the Assioma ‘hack’ version.
Correct 👍🏼
Are the bearings easily accessible and replaceable just like in road Assioma pedals?
Any ideas if they’ll update the road version?
I’ve found the mx to work well but only had them a few weeks, already been soaked with our lovely UK weather.
I really hope they'll do a road version. If they do, you'll know about it here first! :)
@@gplama Maybe it is possible to do a pedal swap the other way round this time ;)
Any idea if Favero is going to release a Road pedal body for the MX 2 spindle?
I hope they will.
Do you have any prediction for when the Assiomas will be updated to use the pod-less spindles?
I got my order of MX-1s a bit ago and love them! If nothing else, they just feel nicer than the mid / entry level Shimano pedals I'd been using. They've held up fine so far, but I don't think I've bashed any rocks, but there will be plenty of opportunities for that at Unbound in a few weeks.
Re crank boots: that comes pre installed on the Ekar cranks, which is very handy.
Any news on an update for the original ones. Eg. a Look or SPD-SL pedal body that fits on the same spindle as these Pro MX ones?
Can you do the swap to SPD-SL body?
Unfortunately not. I’m hoping they’ll do a SPD-SL pedal body in the near future!
That’s pretty incredible with the swap. I wash my bike regularly and I still destroy pedals and bike with my sweat 😓 maybe this is a solution
Are they available anywhere in the UK? I can't seem to find any website having them in stock
Direct from Favero is your best bet. By all reports their shipping is lightning fast.
When will we have the road version without thw external pod :) ?
I will be riding these on roads haha. Sorry SPD-SL users but I cba to flip a pedal over every single red light or stop sign
I do wonder though, if favero may one day release an spd-sl body for the pro mx-2 spindle
Hi Shane, when the deep review for the igSport800???
It’s on the cards. The company isn’t very responsive to my emails. 🤷🏻♂️
Unfortunately my Pro MX-2 pedals are reading 8-10% high compared to my indoor trainer. I have two sets of the Assioma Duos with the SPD pedal hack. One set in use for 4 years and both sets working flawlessly. The indoor trainer matches my Assioma Duos.
Another confirmation is that my heart rate is lower for the same power which supports that power is reading too high. Oddly, the Pro MX pedals are within +/-1% for the static weight test.
I have set the crank length properly on my Garmin Edge 530 and in the Assioma app and of course done the manual calibration. I'm suspicious the cadence may be the source of the problem. Or perhaps the crank length value isn't being implemented properly. I'm running 165 mm cranks. Or of course I'm doing something stupid.
The most recent 5.04 firmware update hasn't helped.
I'm waiting on a response from Favero.
Do you have the ability to do a static weight test? Even if you don’t have an accurate weight, you’ll be able to use the same weight to see if the readings differ from your other Assioma pedals.
@@gplama I guess you didn't see that in my comment. I already did a static weight test and it was within +/- 1%. As it is for my Assioma Duos as well.
Oh.. sorry. EDIT v2 - I shouldn’t reply when tired after a ride. Let me know how you go getting this one solved.
Just thought I'd update this. The larger 8-10% error I was seeing simply disappeared. I strongly believe this was an error in the indoor trainer power (Zwift Hub One) rather than a change in the Favero Pro MX pedals. The Zwift Hub One auto calibrates anytime you coast for 5 seconds from some minimum speed. This is if you are NOT in ERG mode. I had done almost exclusively ERG mode workouts. So, it is very likely the trainer hadn't been calibrated in some time. This was made worse by having tested the Favero Assioma Duo pedals several months before I received the Pro MX pedals. So, there was plenty of opportunity for the Zwift Hub One to change calibration between the comparisons of these sets of pedals.
After intentionally calibrating the Zwift Hub One, the Assioma Duos still match more or less, though read 1-2% higher. This could happen and the units still be within their respective specs +/-1% Duos and +/-2/5 % for the Zwift Hub One. This difference also matches the cadence difference. The Zwift Hub One cadence reads 1-2 RPM (~1-2%) lower consistently. I also compared everything to a separate cadence sensor. The pedals matched this sensor very well and the Zwift Hub One reading 1-2 RPM low.
The Pro MX pedals are reading about 2% higher than the Duos, but I can only compare them indirectly. By this I mean I can compare each to the Zwift Hub One. I have done that with test rides that immediately following one and other using different bikes with the respective Duo or Pro MX pedals on them. Because of course I can't use two sets of pedals at the same time. But the difference seems to be consistent that the Pro MX read higher than the Duos by about 2%.
I'm looking to test the pedals on yet another bike that has a power meter spider on it. If the Pro MX pedals continue to read higher than the Duos, I'll be convinced they do in fact read higher. Unfortunately, this will require mounting and remounting pedals which may introduce other variables.
Favero has gotten back to me and requested I send them some test data for each. They want 5 minutes at 80 RPM. I plan to follow through on that, but want to make sure I have reliable data.
Anyway, I'm still concerned the Pro MX pedals are reading a little high, and even this difference may not be real. They certainly are not reading 8-10% higher as I originally thought.
Need water crossing footage.... oh... I might be able to help. LOL
Will they? 😅
Bikes used to be simple
But now they’re awesome! 🤣
I just bought them like 30minutes ago and now saw you posted THIS video so I was a little worried... 😳😄 Looking forward to train with powermeter 👌🤌
I ordered mine yesterday and was like Oh man I need to watch this and now I feel great about my decision.

The MX-1 are just as accurate (or the MX-2 would be inaccurate). You need to account for what the single sided meter does though, taking your left leg power and doubling it. If you’re not 50/50 balanced at all times then the data will be less representative of your actual power.
