Where can I buy Sheep tea?
I know where you can buy essence of sheep, but I have no idea what that is.
Thanks for saving me some work. I am going to review that exact knife soon. I'll just send people here if they want to see it cut 1000 freaking times....🤣
PREPAREDMIND101 all part of the service!
But on your channel they get the massage parlor...
By this point in his career of cutting rope I bet that Pete can crush a Walnut on a table with the flattened palm of his hand.
When he first started this a few years back I thought “Well. I bet he’ll get tired of that pretty quick!”
He’s gotta be the hardest working guy in the knife review world.
I always do it like that, it's the best way to eat walnuts
Your sacrifice is appreciated!
I looked up sheep dog tea and got redirected to nutnfancy 😞
Jesus, dude, your dedication and perseverance never ceases to amaze me. 80 minutes of cutting for all of us out here in Knifeland. By the way, that exacerbated 'fuck' would have come out of me way faster, and repeatedly, lol. That number was much higher than I thought it would have been. Maxamet is a name I will be watching out for now when checking out certain knives to buy.
This video should be titled “Carpal Tunnel Syndrome for Aussies.”
Is your right hand and arm like the size of Popeye’s? While your left arm is small like Nick Shabazz’s Muppet Arm
Hey Pete, just want to thank you for all the videos you do on steels and cutting performance. All of us in the knife community really appreciate it.
thanks man!
*slices through rope a million times and still cuts paper*
Pete: F U C K
Thanks for putting in the hard work to get us this data! I have a Native in Maxamet. I haven't worked it nearly as hard as you do, but I'm amazed at how much longer it holds an edge than a SAK blade. (I prefer SAKs, but they flat out REFUSE to put a decent blade steel in them)
Interesting to see that there are people out there comparing maxamet to SAK blade steel 😂 just busting balls m8
Do you ever lose count?
Not too shabby. Nice sharpening work steel list dude.
Thanks. 😎 The guy who makes the EdgePro diamond stones I used is on BladeForums. I followed his advice.
I got 810 cuts with that knife. A few different variables: different brand rope (3/8" sisal), different board, cutting style, and I was new to those stones. After more time with those stones Pete likely got a sharper knife. I'll test it again and see how it does.
4:13 is hysterical. I had the same "when will it end?" moment when I was testing this knife.
I read some Cliff Stamp's comments on testing. For us to get withing 20% of each other consistently would be good given all the variables. I think this validates Pete's process. Only one data point. I'll do a few more and see how they align.
This is my favorite steel and my favorite cutting song. 😎🤘🏻🇨🇦
I just picked one of those up the other day. Now I'm extra glad I did.
So I got the same Native 5 the other day. It was lightly used but still had the factory edge. It would cut paper cleanly, but not shave very well. I put it on my KME last night to get it to where all my other knives are. Unfortunately, I had to reprofile it because it had 2 different angles. One was near 17 degrees, so I used the 100 grit diamond stone to get both sides to 17. It was a pretty rough edge like usual when I use that stone. I then went through my normal progression of 140, 300, 600, then stropped on 4, 1, and 0.5 micron CBN. I noticed after the 140 stone that the edge was still pretty ragged, so I looked through a magnifying glass, and the edge had several places that looked like small ragged chips. These stayed and I could not get rid of them as I progressed through the other stones. The edge I am left with just tears paper. It's almost like using a serrated blade. I know this has happened to other people as well. This is the first time sharpening Maxamet, so it's new to me. It looks like I might have used too rough of a stone and applied a little bit too much pressure.
Do you have any tips on how to clean the edge up and fix what I did?
The effort alone deserves a sub. Much appreciated effort. Thank you.
Just got one of these, awesome buy, video reassures my $180
Spyder max, one of the best knives in the world. Unbelievable you took the time and energy for that, thank you much. Your video will lead many to the cutting edge of greatness 🤩. That doesn't sound cheesy after you see it "
Awesome. Going to put a polished edge on my Native5 today!
Thanks for another great video Pete
4:10. LOL
Update: just ordered a Sage 1 in Maxamet. Been using my PM2 in maxamet for a while and it kick ass.
I have ZeroTolerance 0566 in S35VN which I consider my favourite steel, but after seeing this video I need to buy this Maxamet Spyderco :D
Excellent first test. Please cut through some bamboo garden stakes.
Thanks for the info.
I was laughing through your intro and after a bit my wife asked what I was laughing at - "Oh, just a video of a guy cutting through sisal rope" Only you Pete, only you :)
Greatest intro ever😂🇺🇸
Thx so much for your tests. Was wondering if you might up a list or have a video on folders which use these steels. I like Cold Steel TRIAD Lock but never even see D2 much
less these long lasting steels. Can you review some knives which offer these steels? Thx again for your test; which I believe is becoming an iconoc standard!
Best cutting vid ever!
You should try clapping the knife and pulling the rope across it to see how much cutting into the cutting board effects it! And I still think you should try two different degrees one per side!
We need Maxamet UNLEASHED to the MAX!
I literally got "that coffee company" ad before this video. I prefer the sheep tea.
0:44 i want this to be a GIF, and I want that GIF to be my life thumbnAil
I very much want to see a 20° included with a 30° included micro-bevel only for a few thousandths of an inch of the edge. I'm talking enough to barely see with the naked eye. I think it will have the ease of cut of a 20° bevel and the stability of the steeper grind. It might beat the current top score.
According to the war stories I used to read, SAS dudes love their tea, I think you are on to something
Awesome review. Pete you got a workout.
i am careful about what and how i cut. i may never have to sharpen this knife. great video as always!
Hell yes KNIFE LAB!!
Will spyderco sharpen the maxamet if I send it to then? And Will they do a good job sharpening it?
What do you do with all the cut up pieces, I bet it would make good filling for a dog bed....
I am really appreciate your work 👍🏻
Top job Pete!!!
Which knife had the most comfortable handle for these tests?
I purchased this knife because of this video and I love it !!! By chance do you know of any american knife sharpeners who can put the "UNLEASHED" edge on Maxamet steel?
loads, im certain - check out spade knifeworks on instagram for starters!
You should of sent that maxemet to mike Emler….. the best maxemet sharpener
Now we need electron microscope images of each knifes edge at 1000 cuts to see the damage/deformation evidence for certain.
How long did it take your arm to recover? Excellent review and what a slicer.
What kind of cutting board is that? I have an epicurean I wonder though if it dulls my knives prematurely...?
Terrifying tendonitis Batman!
Come for the knives, stay for the tea
My favourite steel ever !!
Did he use a kme to sharpen it? You used a kme to sharpen it when you did it correct? I would like a maxamet knife and will be using a kme to sharpen it. This is why I am asking.
Can the fine edge on Maxamet be maintained with the Spyderco Sharpmaker?
There seems to be some mixed information out there about the tungsten content in Maxamet. I've seen 13% and 10%. You listed it as %10 here, but I believe the Carpenter site lists it as 13%. Just an FYI.
oh righto i go from the zknives database
Nice work! Have you found maxamet to be chippy or particularly awful to sharpen from personal experience?
EDC elephant not particularly! I can pry pine with the edge and do light wire and its fine! It IS hard to sharpen, in terms of time taken
What Pete said. It was taking me a while to sharpen until I got diamond matrix stones. Now it goes quickly.
Beast mode Maxamet!!!
Is this music from The Taint?
It is a but late in the game, but you could use a professional edge tester as a more robust test of sharpness
there were some pretty substantial and sadly underexplained deficiencies with the BESS system that was recently being used by a few others. The manufacturers werent able to answer a couple pretty decent questions from people using them. Sorta put me off the whole thing, to be honest!
Hasta la vista Black Rifle Coffee Company. Mmmm, gyrating robots.
Great vid Pete. You got a workout huh?
Should be rebranded "The Knoife Lab"
Great video! Love my pm2 maxamet as well. What's up with the add about "vaginal odor" when your video ends 🤣.
You should have taken a tea break. I heard sheepdog tea is good, especially their grey wolf blend
4:10 laughed my ass off!!!
What stones on the kme do you use for maxamet, just the regular gold series? ( not for a mirror)
More of a coffee drinker myself, but I'd be down to try some tea. Anyway, didn't see a website anywhere. So where can I get some of that Sheepdog tea? Tried Amazon to no avail. I did happed to find Sheepdogdrinks.com but I don't think it's the same product. At any rate, Sheepdog tea seems like a product I would purchase. Would absolutely consider adding it to my EDC chest rig in case a demanding tactical situation arises. Granted, I'd have to make room for a tactical tea kettle as well but I'm all for changing up my loadout if it improves my lethality. Could probably swap out one of my Cold Steel XL Espadas to save space. Time will tell I suppose. Also been looking into a MOLLE compatible sugar cube pouch, so that'll be a definite buy. Anyway, somebody hit me up with the details. Thanks.
Which knife is that? I know it’s a light weight but I’m not a spyderco nut just yet
native 5 lightweight in maxamet 👍🏻👍🏻
AMAZING VIDEO !!!! WOW !!!
Stop making me want more maxamet
Is there a downside to maxamet? I’m sure it is hard to sharpen. Besides that?
spider Outdoors only other downside is it’s not stainless, it doesn’t instantly rust like carbon iron steels, it will start to patina over time when not cleaned or oiled and eventually will start having little rust spots, but most people actually like it when their maxamet patinas over time.
Oh wait, isnt maxamet supposed to break like glass??????????? I graduated steeluniversityofassholeexpertsreallyknownothing and im 110% sure it should
Whaaaa
If more reviewers don’t step up their testing your fingers are gonna go on strike
do you use all that for garden mulch?....recycle please.
Eat me.
@@sferrell1987 ya mean you eat sisal rope? good fiber when boiled in maxamet shavings. don't forget to sprinkle with ''dust of worksharp''
Final Form My Ass!!!!
Oh puppa
Great intro, too many middle aged out of shape internet badasses these days
Pete, great video but maxamet looks like it kicked your ass dude. Tough steel I guess.
A
what an intro :D lol
Well I tried sheeptea.com
No results. Maybe it’s sheeptea.aus ?
I hope they ship internationally!
s/o to undertale
Holy hell, now that is some incredible performance right there, I own this exact same knife so maybe I should send mine out for sharpening, do you have an email for the fella who sharpened this one?
check out David R in these same comments and hit him up! Not sure if he does other folks knives though!
Usually I'm pretty good at guessing the games you pull your music from...you got me this time, hit me with that Track info Pete! Also, about how long did you spend sharpening the knife? I'm about to have a go at my Maxamet PM2.
Undertale - Another Medium by Toby Fox. I use them a bit cos they are unambiguously happy for others to use their stuff, and I like the chiptune style
Sorry Pete, despite you Aussies being descended from Brits, tea especially the Britt way is the utter silly anthithesis of tactial.
Its very chippy
What is chippy?
@@SuperSteelSteve Maxamet will chip fairly easily because it's brittle. Yea it's good for endurance under the right conditions, but it's not a "hard use" kind of steel. Think of ceramic knives...
BOOSTEDLASER Not if properly heat treated, check out BigBrownBear’s test on it.
@@lexis831 I do not agree, based on the 3 I had. Thanks for post (I USE my tools however, I dont just table top review or collect)
@@BOOSTEDLASER hahahaha
So it was chippy and you bought it 2 more times?
I smell bullshit
You USE your knives? Prove it.
BBB has videos showing it not being chippy...
I've got videos showing it's not chippy...
Let's see it then..
Tell me exactly what you did to get them to chip and I'll do it on my channel.
Go check out my vid on it.
I'm not just talking shit on someone else's video .... I've got video proof.
And as the metalurgy advances, in ten years time Pete is going to need a week off from his job to test one knife.
That was the equivalent of 4 hours at the gym jesus
Revarnggge
You need to sit higher. Your poor arm and shoulder and wrist. Bad angle. We need to keep you healthy so you can keep doing these.
He my friend, have a quick question for you. Could you check your instagram messenger?
