as the local Balinese, hope foreigners that live long in Bali, want to learn, at least Indonesian and are not so comfortable with English all the time, so you can be more localized and know even more about the culture and other things easily and that would be the best appreciation of me as balinese 👍❤❤

They're going to be in for a bit of a shock with everyone saying Bali is cheap. Body Factory is $250 per month, villa $1000 a month if you want a nice 2br in Canggu, cleaner $350, ordering western food from grab or gojek 2x a day is $20, eating out in a cafe another $15-20 per day so food is another $1000-1200/month and that's not taking account the day trips.
It can definitely be expensive if you want to live a western lifestyle. If you eat nasi goreng, watch your spending & live in a local house on the outskirts of Canggu, you can get by under $1k.

As long as you can afford your primary needs, plus maybe a little back up in your saving account, while maintaining to earn sufficiently for your basic needs, you will be okay living here. It's definitely incomparable to Europe or the US. It's not the perfect place in the world, but trust me, once you experience it and find the rithm real Bali life, you will move here.

I would not advise making a habit of annoying the locals or performing rituals/practices/anything that is against local views and tolerance; otherwise, you're life will be a living hell. For instance, if there is a prayer or ritual being performed don't act rowdy or play loud music... Of course such courtesies are not new and something to be expected tbh.

Foreigners are not allowed to own assets (land, buildings, vehicles) in the territory of Indonesia, including Bali.
The only assets that foreigners are allowed to own in Bali are assets in the form of 'lease rights'. They can only rent assets from local people for a certain period of time (many properties in Kuta and Seminyak are rented for up to 25 years)
The purpose of this rule is to protect the interests of Indonesia, especially local people (Balinese in this case) . Do not let Bali be owned and controlled by foreigners.
In fact, it is not so. Many foreigners own assets in Bali (especially villas and private vehicles).
Villas owned by foreigners, for example, are occupied by themselves, not a few are also rented out to other foreigners-both in the short term (a few days) or in the longer term (annually).
Of course their names (foreigners) are not listed in the documents related to asset ownership (certificates, building permits or car BPKB). The names listed there are the names of local people. This is done by cooperating with a notary where the property is located.
    For example:
When a 'foreigner' buys a villa, the name included in the deed of sale is the name of a local person (can be his acquaintance or business partner or staff or even his assistant), the term is “borrow name”. In return, the person who lends his name is given certain compensation, whether in the form of money or otherwise.
To protect himself (so that the assets are not taken over by the local people), the bule asks a notary to issue a deed of debt between himself and his local people, separately. Furthermore, by a notary a deed of “Confession of Debt” (sometimes called a “deed of nomination”) is drawn up in which the local person acknowledges that he has debts to the Caucasian.
If one day the local people are 'naughty' - intending to control the assets belonging to the Caucasians, then the Caucasians can easily collect the debts that have been stated in the deed.
That's how foreigners in Bali circumvent government regulations that prohibit foreigners from owning assets in Bali and Indonesia in general.
The question that arises, perhaps: can the ownership process be called legal, has it not been carried out in front of a notary who in fact is the official land certificate maker (PPAT) recognized by the state?
It's illegal. The reason? Next time will be discussed (by case) specifically. What is clear is that this method has been recommended by many property agents in Kuta and its surroundings, and has even been disclosed to the New York Times.

I agree with your sentiment. It is tragic that foreigners are "owning" lands that should belong to the natives. Well technically they don't really own it. I have seen foreigners that actually became an Indonesian citizen through naturalization(?) and bought an entire island. They would not allow this kind of process in Europe for immigrants (at least I am a bit certain they don't). I think Indonesia should focus on doing something about this "loop hole" you are talking about. Honestly, who is at fault here is also the native who "leased" the land. But in the first place is this something to be amended when technically the lands are not under the foreigner's name in the first place? I am assuming the amount of "debt" that was agreed is consensual for both parties, so is there a reason to amend the law?

    • @yo_wassupdude

Sorry to be a stick in the mud, but I live in Uluwatu and from my perspective, the whole of the Southern section of Bali, from Canggu to Kuta is disappearing up its own backside in traffic, and that situation will only worsen with the return of tourists and full size buses to the roads. I am moving to Tabanan to get away frm it all, but will still have to fight my way through the Canggu traffic to access the shopping malls and supermarkets. Hopefully, the new tollway, due to be finished at the end of 2024, will bypass Canggu and take you straight into Denpasar.

Great video! Always love seeing how Bali has changed throughout the years since I last lived there. Hey Christian, it would be great to hear the upkeep costs and fees of sustaining a villa (bills, electricity, upkeep, etc). If not in a video, a response in the comments would work. Keep it up my fellow Canadian! 😊✌🏽

Electricity is no monthly fees, you can use the top up system.. you can top up your electricity from your mobile.. so basically $0 if you dont use it at all..
Property tax is really cheap.. because in Indonesia the tax based land price is much lower than the market price... and the rate is 0.5%..
For a 450k usd house, I pay only 1k property tax per year..

As for living there, I suppose it is great if you are single, and don't plan on seeing your family and friends back home very often, as the travel would be too much. I bought a second home in Puerto Vallarta as well as primary residence in Toronto, and I get the same weather, restaurants, bars, lower cost of living, plus able to get all those little things you can't get in Bali, a great beach, plus easy commute to Canada or the States. There is no right or wrong here, just preference.

Hi Christian, nice promo video but unfortunately videos like this spoil it for the people who are in Bali now. People who don't want Bali be another Ibiza, people who like Bali to continue to be authentic as much as possible . I have lived in Indonesia for 24 years and I owned a villa in Seminyak, so I do think that I know what I am talking about. Thousands and thousands of people will be attracted to this video and will consider moving to Bali. Have you thought about the consequences? Prices will go up everywhere, the trash pollution (which is a huge problem already all over Bali) will increase enormously, the traffic will get worse and worse , the westerners will overflow Bali and make it harder and harder for the locals to keep their own beautiful traditions, this will attract a lot of young people who have no money and who will not be helping the local economy whatsoever. Living in Bali can be a great thing, but let not forget that there can be a lot of negative effects to this as well........if too many people will come to Bali

No one will tell u this but you do need a proper license from overseas that allows you to drive a specific motorbike and then an international drivers license if you wanna avoid a fine from a police officer. If you look like a foreigner sometimes a police officer will stop you just to make a little bit of cash. If you are unlucky. Also if you dont wear a helmet another fine. I highly recommend gojek
