Really liked the Turtles back in the day. If you like folk rock, you should try Donovan. "Sunshine Superman" was his biggest hit in the US, followed by "Mellow Yellow." There are tons more solo artists and groups from that time that you'll enjoy discovering.
Hard to believe but, the" Turtles" ended up being recruited by Frank Zappa as the" Mothers of invention"like the Album said"We're only in it for the Money!"
The Florescent Leach and Eddie, Flo and Eddie. Zappa's Just Another Band From LA, live features Howard Kalan and Mark Volman. Flo and Eddie. The album is funny and very LA.
Another great group from the 60's. The Turtles are a great rock band formed in 1965. I had their greatest hits album. "Happy Together" was their biggest hit in 1967. But they had a lot of great songs such as "It Ain't Me Babe", "Let Me Be", "You Baby", "Grim Reaper Of Love", "Can I Get To Know You Better", "She'd Rather Be With Me", "You Know What I Mean", "She's My Girl", "Elenore", "You Showed Me" etc.
I saw The Turtles and The Doors both play one night at the Whiskey A Go Go. I was only in LA for a family funeral and my crazy Uncle, who was a studio jazz drummer for Columbia Records, took my brother and I there. We had heard of The Turtles, but The Doors hadn't released any records yet.
You wondered if there was a band named after a clock. There was a band called "The Strawberry Alarm Clock." Their best hit is called "Incense and Peppermints." It's a great song, check it out!! Happy Together is a favorite oldie of mine!
What a great reaction to this song, for me a 73 year old. Even I never knew how "Flo and Eddy" evolved. Even today I have this song in my playlist of Upbeat, summertime happy songs to rev me up for the day! I hear "Beach Boys" style in their backup vocals. Thank you for your deep dive anaysis!❤
I love The Turtles!!! Back then there was The Beatles, The Monkeys, The Hollies, and on and on.. I remember this from my childhood and it had lots of play on the radio! I love this song and I still do today. I also love the music video with the band having fun with this song! I love many genre's of music and also the oldies! Thanks MMBXMOB!!
Yes, many 60's bands were named after animals. Trying to copy the Beatles name theme? There's even a band called The Animals! Just like all the rappers put "Lil" in front of their names now. 😂 Loved the pop sound of the turtles. "Elenore", "She's My Girl" & "She'd Rather Be With Me." are good ones. Flo & Eddie were the opening act of my first concert! Maybe they didn't win the lawsuit you mentioned because they were not the writers of Happy Together, only performers. I am surprised you didn't play their Ed Sullivan show video. Good reaction! checkout all the movies this song is in. 😎
When The Turtles left White Whale records, they were the only thing keeping the company in business. White Whale sued them and claimed that they not only owned all their music and the "Turtles" name, but they even owned the guy's individual names. That was some of the legal issues. They also had problems with their management.
The Turtles, The Beatles, The Animals ... they didn't spend a lot of time thinking of names, I guess. A groovy song. Kinda reminds me of The Small Faces - "Itchycoo Park" (Steve Marriott) later covered by M People.
Amazing how in the 60s with so much turmoil over Civil Rights and Anti-Vietnam protest, Decade basically started with lost of JFK and Marilyn Monroe, The Doo Waap giving way to the new sounds of the Beach Boys and of course the Beatles and Motown Sound, Folk protest songs and still crooners from Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin from the 50s still with hits to the newer ones like Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck.... HAPPY HAPPY SONGS WERE still happening despite our issues vs today with issues. The decade had teen pop grow and bubblegum rock as this is kind of a start. That continued into the mid-60s with TV show bands etc. with that happy sound as this song. Then Funk and Disco came in with Classic Rock continuing and into the 80s Disco basically got cancelled. The new 80s sound also took over and the second British invasion of musicians and Big Hair bands took over.
My band name: Oswald Prison Transfer. Our album cover would be the picture of Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald, with my face superimposed on Oswald’s.
Please consider watching the Smothers Brothers show - even if it's not on a React channel. They were subversive. Musicians, comedians, but also cleverly commenting on politics. Smart guys and my heroes. You will get a better sense of the times if you watch them
Don't sell the Turtles short! They were a very good band and had quite a few hits in their day. Besides, Turtles and Butterflies were very popular back then. Check out "You Baby" and "Elenore."
The Turtles were great!
the Strawberry Alarm Clock "Incense and Peppermint" was a big hit....
@MrChaes, I immediately thought of the Strawberry Alarm Clock!!! I'm a child of the '60s
YES!! Please listen to this song. Really captures the vibe back then

I remember this as a kid. Always liked them.
This is an awesome song! Love The Turtles. Love your reaction!
Nice to see the joy on your face. It's what us seniors grew up with, and miss. Glad to see it all again through young eyes!
1967 was a fantastic year for pop music. I was 12
😊
I TOTALLY AGREE! It CERTAINLY was! I turned 10 in June of 67! FANTASTIC music!
The Strawberry Alarm Clock.
Yes! 😄
There's a naming pattern for some of the most successful bands of the period: The Beatles. The Animals. The Byrds. The Monkees. The Eagles.
There was actually a band called Strawberry Alarm Clock in the 60s. There song incense and peppermint’s is worth a listen.
You beat me to the post! Incense and Peppermints is definitely another must listen.
Bill Bartlett & Ed King,(RamJamm & LynardSkynard respectively) got burned by their manager for publishing/copyright royalties
You have no idea how much joy you brought me listening to and ... appreciating ... this song from my youth. Thank you!!
Hard to believe but, the" Turtles" ended up being recruited by Frank Zappa as the" Mothers of invention"like the Album said"We're only in it for the Money!"

Aztec Camera - great unsung 80's new wave band
My Gen X self is singing along! Yes, it's a song on my playlist! 😁✌

Happy Together is a favorite oldie of mine!
The Smothers Brothers show was really funny it's also where Goldie Hawn got her start

This is the first song I heard by them. I loved it. Eleanor, is another one I liked.
The Chocolate Watchband “ I’m Not Like Everybody Else” , & The Strawberry Alarm clock as others have mentioned.

That was the sound from those days. Many bands stirred up this type of sound.
My son's high school rock band was called Hearing Impaired.
The Turtles, The Beatles, The Animals ... they didn't spend a lot of time thinking of names, I guess.
A groovy song.

The Turtles were great. Definitely check out some of their other music. You will not be disappointed.
Music of my teens!
I liked the song. Peace, Love!!
Aztec Camera were a 1980s pop music band from Scotland.
🌸 you've got to do " elenor" because it's a huge backstory to this song you're doing today with the label contract , and it's hilarious!
My band name: Oswald Prison Transfer. Our album cover would be the picture of Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald, with my face superimposed on Oswald’s.
🌸 there was a band in the 60s called the strawberry alarm clock
We took this music for granted dud you can hold a note cool
You've never heard of them, or the record labels bcuz you weren't born yet!😂 Love the Turtles!!❤❤❤
If you think The Turtles is an odd name, Flo and Eddie is the short version of their subsequent band's name...the Fluorescent Leech and Eddie.
It's a really solid and timeless (even though it sounds like the 60's).
You had Buddy Holley and the Crickets which inspired the name Beatles. Then you had the Monkees, the Turtles, etc.
This song just sceams the 60s
There’s a lot of humor in the lyrics. If I should call you up invest a dime, great line..

The lead singer was only 19 on this record
God bless you, Grasshopper. Please check out "Kung Fu", TV series,1972 for reference and complete enjoyment.
What about Plurality. Has that name been taken? I like that word. Lol
Don't sell the Turtles short! They were a very good band and had quite a few hits in their day. Besides, Turtles and Butterflies were very popular back then. Check out "You Baby" and "Elenore."
I think this song is on some prescription drug company commercial, cuz it's so fun buying drugs. 😬
Yikes. That can sure harsh your mellow.
