Hi Gianni! We figured why go through the hassle of a colorwash wall with glaze when you can just use this technique :) We're happy this helped, and thank you for watching!
im a firefighter and im less scared of going into a burning building than i am of doing this. i bought two tones of paint two days ago and i cant make myself start painting because im afraid im going to screw it up somehow lol. im not going for the mandala thing, just the two tone thing. your video is very helpful, i appreciate it❤️
Hi Moe, Don't worry! It's only paint and you can always sand the wall and repaint it if you don't like it. A helpful tip is to have a spray bottle with water in it to lightly mist the areas where you are blending the 2 colors. Go for it!
Thank you so much! :) Would you like the stencil color to be white or the colorwash wall to be white? Colorwashing a wall white is a little difficult when there is no other colors involved. If you were to colorwash the wall in darker, moody tones and stencil an off-white mandala over it, it will really pop! What we always recommend is finding inspiration on Pinterest or Instagram that includes terracotta tiles and see what designers have done to their walls and recreate it! :)
I have medium colored brown walls in my bedroom. And i want my walls to look lighter. I just prefer light walls. Can i just use my already brown walls as the base color and do color washing over it with 2 different colors in the white family? Would this suggestion work?
Hi, Yes, this is a great way to lighten the walls and add a beautiful mottled effect! But I recommend using your light and dark colors wet on wet, at the same time like in our videos. And a spray bottle helps to blend the colors. Good luck!
Hi Wilmer! For a foggy look, go for a medium tone gray and color wash it with Navajo white! If you want more of a misty look, check out our video on how to stencil a misty mountain mural: ua-cam.com/video/oVvT5FOxbGQ/v-deo.html
Hi Lani! The paint should be in a flat sheen :) This will help the paint flow better when misting the water over it. If you decide to stencil over the colorwash, it was have better adhesion for the stencil paint to stick and reduce your chances of stencil seepage!
Hi Kathleen, great question! We have seen colorwash walls created with sponges and rags. We even used a sponge here & there for this wall. However, using those materials can cause quite a mess. When you use a staining brush, a sponge & just a little water, (like we did in this video) you will get the same results better, faster & easier :)
You can still use it but you may get some flashing. That's when you can see the brush strokes because the semi gloss reflects light. You should make a sample and see if you like it. It will probably be fine.
Hi, You would use the same technique. But it can be a pain in the neck lol. Some people actually put on a neck brace while colorwashing a ceiling to help support your neck. Good luck!
Has anyone tried this using a wall that wasn't white? I have an accent wall, I wanted to glaze, but the thought of priming just makes me not want to do anything! Could I use the same color paint, plus let's say white, for this kind of "wash"?

Hi! Could a medium to dark green work with this technique?
You definitely could! Those colors sound fabulous!! :)
Were the paints satin or eggshell finish or does it matter?

Hi thanks for the video. I was wondering , would this work with rags or sponge brushes? Thanks again

Would a dark grey and light grey combo work well for this?
Absolutely! But we always recommend making a sample first to make sure you like it.
Thanks!
@@CuttingEdgeStencils Did it with two greys and a green earthy grey mixed in, thank you!
When you say 'Flat Sheen' is that a flat matte paint or a 'Low Sheen' water based paint??
Hi, A flat sheen paint. No sheen or shine is best.
UGH I already bought my dark color in Semi-gloss paint, is there ANY way around this ??
You can still use it but you may get some flashing. That's when you can see the brush strokes because the semi gloss reflects light. You should make a sample and see if you like it. It will probably be fine.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do this technique on a ceiling? Thank you 🙏🏼

Maybe I missed it but what is the pink/salmon paint color you are using?!
Hi Shea, we used Ben Moore's Coral and added a little Navajo white to lighten it up a little before colorwashing the wall :)

You really should prime
