Replacing a Toilet Wax Ring With an Incorrect Flange Height

- In this video, we're replacing the wax ring on a toilet with an incorrect flange height. Idealy the flange should be installed on top of the finished floor. Sadly, in almost all cases it's not. The plumbing contractor will install on the subfloor, while the flooring contractor will just tile around it. This creates a situation where there's a half-inch or more between the toilet and the flange. Let's fix that!

Maybe I am crazy but I think the way it was before the spacer would be better. The flange should be flush or a little below. I cracked one when I was kid and doing a wax ring replacement. I am not a fan of using chalk around a toilet not required here by code either.
Good video. I myself prefer the flange to be at or slightly below the finish floor so shimming is usually not an issue, and a jumbo wax ring makes the seal just fine. Bravo for the reminder to leave a small gap in the rear of the final caulking so there is an easy way to spot any leaks early!
Amazing video, thank you sir
what a super great video!! thanks so very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No one breaks down info quite like you.
