Poor Prey always lived under the shadow of Fischer Dieskau and yet I find him to be a better , truer baritone than DFD with a much more beautiful voice and expressiveness. I like him much better, also in Opera.
Anyone who says Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau is the greatest Schubert-lieder singer, has never heard Hermann Prey. (Actually, Kurt Moll's Schubert singing is better than either Prey or DFD. Kurt Moll was not known for Schubert but his Schubert is the best singing he ever did.)
