Roland MH:
The rebound is reduced through the 2 mesh layers, but it is still a bit bouncy. It triggers well and it causes a bit noise, so it is not as quiet as a one layered mesh head. It is only available in size 6,8,10,12 and 14 inches.
The Remo Silent Stroke:
1 ply mesh head with a white transparent surface. This mesh head is definitely one of the quietest heads on the market and triggers really well. Although it has a lot of rebound and the feel it provides is different from a real head. Remo silent strokes are available in sizes from 8 til 20 inches.
The drum-tec basic: is a 1 ply mesh head. It is really transparent, which makes it possible to see every part inside the drum. The price for this head is unbeatable. It triggers well and is really quiet. The rebound level is not as heavy as known from other 1 ply heads, but still more than noticeable. Black and white basic heads are available in every size from 6-24 inch.
The drum-tec pro:
Sturdy 1 ply head, which does not feel like a mesh head at all. The mesh itself is really thick and causes actual noise. It is even possible to use it as practice head without sound module. The trigger sensitivity has to be increased. The feel is amazing it is like playing a real drum head. There is almost no unwanted rebound. This head is available in all sizes from 8-22 inch.
The drum-tec design series:
Competitor to the Roland MH head. It is a 2 ply head which offers the most accurate trigger results. It is a tiny bit noisier than the Roland head and therefore it causes less rebound and feels more realistic. It is almost untransperant and available in all sizes from 8-22.
drum-Tec reel feel.
A heavy 3 ply mesh head. The rebound is almost 100% comparable with a real head and the head does not cause more noise than the 2ply version. The triggering is good, but a tiny bit less sensitive than it would be with the 2ply head. It is not possible to look through it and it is available in sizes 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20. The price is higher compared to other heads, therefore it is probably indestructible and lasts forever. Sadly, there is no 13 inch version.
In the end it is up to you which head you prefer. Some people like them to be quiet and less expensive, others like a realistic rebound and don’t want to recognize any difference to a real head.

I really like this kind of tests, thanks!
So what’s the best mesh head for the realest feel but lowest noise as well?
Great tests! Where can I get information on that trigger that was used here?
Great vídeo, thanks; the drum- tec pro look great.
This has been the best test video yet! Way better than these videos with long-winded hipsters with way too much of their own opinion getting in the way.
Why is the Drum tec Design series not shipping to America? It seems there are not alot of options for 2 ply mesh heads in the USA and for some reason the website says it will not ship to USA for this head only. Anyone?
+michael king There is a patent in the US which does not allow other sellers to sell mesh heads than the ones who have a licence. Go for Jobeky Mesh Heads or Billy Blast.
hello thanks for this nice review, i have the silent stroke and the bouncy feel annoys me - is there really a BIG difference if i upgrade to the Drum-tec real feel? they cost a lot, so maybe i will go for snare only for now. It's not for electronic just quiet practice on real drum kit. thanks
+pierre g There is deinetly a big difference, even the mesh material is different. They are expensive but last forever and feel great. Go for the 3 ply heads.
+Vdrum Tips ok thanks! also i have a 16" kick drum, do you think it would be better with these too? i know kick is very different than tom/snares
the kick needs additional damping. a 3ply mesh is not enough.
Excellent resource as I shop for mesh heads, Thank you!
+TheYear2942 Hope you find the right ones for your needs:)
Would you say the drum tec pro or drum tec real feel series has a more authentic feel? And which would be best for bass drum(authenticity feel wise)?
Thank you!
The drum-tec pro is the best, however, it is loud and not made for apartments.
Great video!!, I want to try this mesh heads on real drums looking for a more realistic feel, i don't care about the trigger capabilities, I have a Yamaha e-drum kit with the silicone pads I live in an apartment so I don't want to disturb the neighbours, would you be able to say if this heads are louder/quieter?
Thanks
+Juan Pablo Ramos If noise is the main priority, I'd go for a 2 or 1 ply head, they are less realistic but do not disturb anyone.
I think so, otherwise Jobeky heads might be a good solution. They are really quiet.
Billy Blast is good.
No idea:)
@@Vdrumtips1 hi. Thanks for all the great video you're sharing. I recently found this mesh head on ebay and reverb. It's cheap and with a 2 ply. UKS Audio mesh heads. Could you do a review with this heads if it's a great alternative for a pricey mesh head.
great video
Witch one was the quietest? Thank you
***** The Remo Silent Stroke
Hey guys, Im looking for new mesh heads that feel really great, natural and are very playable. The last thing I want is to feel like im playing on a cardboard box. I cant decide between 1 ply and 2ply. I would like some rebound and a softer dynamical feel to the head. Feel and triggering is most important to me. Any suggestions? Thank you
For you, a drum-tec series (2-ply)mesh head would be good. It has all you want.
Just to be sure. The noise produced by the impact of the stick into the mesh head also depends of the box, right? I mean I have a drum-tec diabolo 12" inch pad and two pdx-100 roland pads, and personally I feel the roland pads to be the noisier ones.
by the way the drum-tec pad has a design mesh head.
Hi ! Thanks for this video ;) I actually use the real feel mesh heads 18" but I found I get too much rebound with those. Will you say the Pro series have less rebound? Or is it the same? Thanks a lot ;)
+eltavares95 Actually, the real feel has the lowest rebound, because of the 3 layers. For 18" you need to consider damping the drum, there is no way to reduce the rebound at such a big size shell. What about using smaller shells?
+Vdrum Tips I already damped the bass drum :/ I would love to reduce the shell but it's not that easy ^^ Thanks a lot for your answer and keep doing your videos, love it ;)
Thank you, what about building a wood or metal disc and using some foam?
+Vdrum Tips Sounds a bit complicated to me as I'm not the best for manual works ^^ I'll try their patch, the pro version, who looks to cancel the little rebound I get all the time. I play with tight head (metal drummer ^^)
+eltavares95 hi - i have the same problem with a 16" kick -
one thing i did that work a little bit: add some gaffer tape outside the impact zone, it makes the head a bit more rigid. Secondly i bought a aquarian bass drum patch which will strengthen the head - but buy the blakc version that is a bit "felty" ( the white one is platic = same effect as putting any sort of sticker)
lastly but i havent tried yet, if you live in the US you should buy a Remo muffle ring, and see whether it works. I want to do that too but they are pricy in europe :(
Exxxxxxxxxxellent video!! Thanks
hi guys, nice video. i have just bought a new kick drum which i dont really like cause it makes a lot of noise and the rebound is shit, so i get double strokes without wanting them. so, which is the best option for me ? from what you said the best is remo silent stroke . quiet and not much rebound . am i right ?
+Rage ModeOn The Remo silent stroke is the most bounciest head on the market. Get an R-Drums kick beater to reduce the rebound.
Vdrum Tips what about the roland one ?
+Rage ModeOn The roland heads are made out of the same material than the Remo heads. They are 2 ply but still bouncy and I think they cost more than the drum-tec 2 ply heads.
can you give me an idea of the db level on a strike?
No sorry, I just can tell you which ones are loud and which ones are quiet.
Can I replace the mesh heads for my TD Roland Mesh heads? For example can I put in the Drum Tec heads on my PDX-100 snare?
Tim Joseph Yes, but in order to provide positional sensing for the snare, you should use a 2 or 3 ply mesh head.
+Vdrum Tips Why does a 1-ply head not work with position-sensing?
Because positional sensing is recognised by the trigger wave form. This wave form is different on 1 ply heads.
Hey guys. I own a 2box and I've broken 3 kick heads untill now.
Which one do you think would work better for this kit (2-3 ply)?
Thanks
I think you should use another beater to not break them. The different ply's only change the rebound. It is not about durability only.
I think so too, which material would be the best in your opinion?
Thanks a lot!
For a beater? Plastic or wood.
Thanks a lot! By the way very interesting videos
Thank you!
Hi I play a KD85 bass drum on my Roland kit, can you recommend a good head for this ? Thanks
At this pad, it does not matter, since it is dampened.
so any 8 inch mesh head will do ?
David Barbour yes, but take a 2 ply
Thanks it has a normal plastic batter on just now but wasnt sure which mesh would be best
Roland, Drum-tec or Jobeky. But I would replace it with an original.
For real feel and authentic rebound, which ones are better, Drum Tec 3 ply Real Feel or Jobeky 3 Ply?
Drum-tec 3 ply.
Vdrum Tips Thanks! Could you plz also suggest good triggers that can provide positional sensing.. I've been considering Roland RT triggers?
Roland RT triggers do not support positional sensing. For positional sensing, you need a trigger with a cone in the middle. I would definitely go for R-drums RTB-Triggers.
Thanks a lot Vdrum!!.. are those triggers easy to install?
Also, please share your opinion on Jobeky real feel Hi-Hats vs the Field Electronic Hi-Hats, in terms of reliability and feel... Thanks!
Which one do u recommend the most?
coldfacekiller 14 The drum-tec series 2 ply head.
which is the most real feeling? im guessing the real feel?
Cam Par the pro and the reel feel
what do I use when I want to change the heads on td11kv snare or toms
You can use anything. But I would go for original Roland heads.
Optical systems
I slam my kick and it ripped my Alesis 8" kick (dual layer) mesh head. Which would be best aas a replacment.
Where do you buy those rubber rim covers?
r-drums.com
wronka-drums
drum-tec
Vdrum Tips Thanks, but is there anywhere I can buy those with American dollars?
you can buy via paypal, it converts the currency automatically.
Vdrum Tips ok, thanks!
Is Cassandra from Dragon Age voicing this? Or maybe Cassandra and Leliana's lovechild.
Looks like Drumtec now make a 13-inch real feel head now.
Yes.
Roland mesh heads come in all sizes now
Yes, they do. But at the time when this video was made, they did not.
Drum-Tec real feel also comes in 22" BD size
+Dr. Nicholas Pratt Yes, I checked the site, it does indeed come as 22" version.
Coolhwip
ROLAND POWER PLYs are without a doubt the best of all mesh heads made. The worst are drum tec 3 plys total junk. TRUST ME IVE USED THEM ALL!!!
Drumtec don't ship these to the united states.
2:23 caused WHAT noise ?? Can we PLEASE have someone who can actually speak ENGLISH narrate this ?? 🤷♂️🙄
