I have watched tons of reaction videos and, sir, mad props to you for listening to the entire song without stopping it 10 times. You reacted with your eyes and your head (and probably your hands and feet as well) and that is how a civilized person should treat great music. Yes, this song is about the end of a romantic relationship, however, for myself and so many many others, who chose this as our "class song", it is the greatest graduation song ever.
The problem, is that there are only 2 live versions on youtube! Maybe, they made a better solo! But, in my opinion, with the 2 live versions available on youtube, the Knebworth's solo is better, but, the Oakland's version, is better because, of the energy coming out of the crowd! It's beautiful!
@@julienmarquet8612 there are wayyyy more than 2 live versions on video of Freebird from 70s. Check out Hamburg 1974 and Old Grey Whistle Test 1975. Winterland 1975, 1976 and Asbury Park 1977. There is also one from Charlie Daniels' Volunteer Jam in 1979 that is the first time they played together after the crash, and has no words in honor of Ronnie Van Zant. But with ALLL that being said, Knebworth is absolutely the best even though about 15 seconds of the solo is cut off from the recording. Oakland is great of course but they cut over 2 minutes of the solo off of the video version.
@@timmt1398 i was talking about good versions, with a good sound! But, anyway, youtube is still a shit us channel, deleting the best things because of money! Especially, Jimi Hendrix! I have all the albums, live, studio, bootlegs, crazy things, and you only find 2 or 3 videos! Sometimes, peoples like vélo fan, are puting good stuff, but, immediatly after, it's deleted!
If you're listening to Freebird the best thing to do is just settle in and get comfortable. This solo is one of the best I've ever heard. His name is Ronnie van Zandt. His brothers are members of other bands too. Donnie is in 38 Special and you really need to check them out. I love them and I've seen them in concert at least 6 times. Johnie has had limited success and I like some of his stuff. His song "Brickyard Road" is an amazing tear jerker about his brother Ronnie.
Lead singer and song writer of all Lynyrd Skynyrd songs- Ronnie Van Zant. Died in a plane crash age 29. Main Lead guitar- Allen Collins But there are 3 lead guitars playing the entire solo.
Great reaction vid, thanks for not stopping it in mid song. If you think this was amazing you have to watch them play this live at the Oakland Coliseum in 1977. It will blow you away.
And your reaction is perfect - EVERYONE reacts physically to this song and cannot believe what they just heard. BYW, they were early 20s (one waa still 19) when this song was recorded.
All seven were members - Ronnie Van Zant (singer, writer), Gary Rossington, Allen Collins (guitars), Ed King (bass although he was a GREAT guitarist and became one for LS after Leon Wilkison joined on bass), Billy Powell (piano), and Bob Burns (early drummer). If you want to see the breadth of this band's styles and ability, check out The Ballad of Curtis Loew, Call Me the Breeze, Simple Man, T for Texas, Sweet Home Alabama, I Know a Little, Every Mothers Son, Gimme Three Steps, On the Hunt... I could go on and on. They played HARD rock, blues, country , bluegrass, and even tinging into folk sometimes (Four Walls of Raiford). And a band of underrated talent in all directions. LS is up with the Allmans, CCR, Springsteen, and Dylan as the greatest American rock band ever.
I've seen 2nd generation (i was born in 1979, so it would be impossible for me to have see the original) Lynyrd Skynyrd 7 times. Most have since passed, but I'll never forget seeing this live. The feeling and energy in the air was 🔥! Feed Love! Starve hate. 🤘
Another great tune reaction. I have seen L.S. live twice in two different decades. Both amazing shows I’ll never forget. You are hitting some of the best classic Rock tunes ever created….. GOOD JOB. Waiting to see you do many more like….. Supertramp doing… “RUDY” Live, with the awesome Train Ride video through the English country side. It is spectacular.
I think out of the band lineup in that cover photo only 1 is still alive, two band members and the backing singers and manager were killed when their plane crashed in 1977, most of the band suffered serious injuries but recovered. Allen Collins, one of the lead guitarists on that track recovered but in 1990 was involved in a car crash and paralyzed, later died. Gary Rossington was the other guitarist, he's still alive and still in the band.
I wish you would have listened to the live version because it would have blown your f****** mind, they were so good they could give you live what they did in the studio !!
There was a plane crash with all the band aboard. Lead singer was killed and one of the back up singers. Some of them were mamed and never the same..so sad 😔
Great Choice.... Lynyrd Skynyrd.... In high school there was a gym teacher who hated the long haired rockers so the band used his name....Leonard Skinner dies at 77; gym teacher was namesake of rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Leonard Skinner, a Florida high school gym teacher and coach who was the inspiration for the name of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died.
You absolutely MUST watch their live version from 1977 in Oakland. Seeing these guys in action is another level. To continue your Skynyrd journey, definitely go with Simple Man next. It's perfection with a timeless message. For more southern rock, give Can't You See by the Marshall Tucker Band a listen, but make sure to react to their live performance from Macon in 1972. You will not hear anything else like Toy Caldwell (and his guitar playing is pretty golden too).
