I had my first sipping of this yesterday and came to YT to see what others are saying. Clearly shows why there's so many and tastes / palates vary. Plus this video is five years old. Today, March 2024, this is the best whiskey I've ever tasted. I can see others hating it for being overly sweet but it's got it all sweet, spice, okay, etc.
Fully agree. Underwealming and overpriced. Can get some cask strength or double oak for same price that will have an explosion of flavour and finish compared to this tame young stuff
100% agree. Spot on. I picked up some orange and honey on the nose. But it tasted very young, dry and spicy. Not much sweetness at all. Would not buy this again.
Hey Paul, thanks for sharing, I think it's important forcother viewers to see comments like this to help them with their decision on whether to buy or not. Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting! 🥃

MY BOURBON JOURNEY already subscribed 👍. I have a pretty busy schedule and mainly do my videos once the kids are asleep and the house is quiet lol. But it is something I want to do down the line.
There was a time, 2012-2-14 people chased after Jeff-18 and Jeff-21 being "the last distillate from Stitzel-Weller" and the price went crazy . . . Its prices are but vestiges of time bygone 10y ago !
Thanks for the review, I picked up a similar Jefferson “very old, very small batch” local liquor store pick and actually had a chance to sample it. It turned out to be a nice bourbon with a nice long lasting finish. Nothing too crazy but hitting every nice bourbon note. It was actually being sold at a price of $35.99 so I went for it. Think I might designate it as my warm up bottle to tastings.
I liked the review Scott! My first bottle of Jefferson's Reserve: "very old Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey very small batch" was gifted to me last week as a groomsmen gift. It's really my first experience enjoying a glass of whiskey. I liked your review and I look forward to trying some of your suggested bottles in the future! Keep up the great work!
Enjoyed the review. During the tasting at the distillery, unfortunately we didn't try that one, but we did try Jefferson's Very Small Batch (rather than the Very Old). The age was said to be between 6-8 years as I recall with a similar mash bill 60/30/10 I believe. I liked it. It had a nice mouth feel to it and wasn't too dry for me but does get a little rye heat with a non-aggressive peppery finish. First smell I almost thought I was smelling a sherry, but the taste isn't as sweet as that. Not sure what the difference between the two would be. But at $32 a bottle, the VSB might just end up being the better option. I still have a pretty inexperienced palate, but at this point, I enjoy this one.
Drew Hannush it's a ton of fun getting to do what you're doing now, getting to try all of these whiskies and establish what it is that you enjoy. Have fun with it all. Cheers
Great review Scott! Haven’t tried a Jefferson’s bourbon yet. I heard good things from a few live stream whiskey chats about Jefferson ocean voyage 10 cask strength, bought a bottle. When I uncork it I’ll get back to you on my thoughts about it. Cheers Scott! 🥃👍
Press Man I'd love to hear your thoughts, there are so many in the Jefferson's lineup. In fairness to this I'd like to try some others in the lineup, cheers and thanks for checking out the review.
SOWLEG Thanks man I appreciate that.i had the coasters made up by a local guy. They are made out of bourbon barrels, cheers and thanks for subscribing to my channel.
James Jang Thanks James, I try to provide info that may help or prevent others in making a decision on the flavor profile, appreciate the support and you checking out my review
Great review as always Scott! I've had a lot of good Bourbons but have yet to try anything from The Jeffersons ocean. Curious to know what's your favorite out of the Jefferson's ocean lineup if in fact you had any at all other than this one. Keep them coming
Robert Senn Thanks Robert, this was actually the first bourbon I've had from Jeffersons out side of the 2 chef's collaboration. I wasn't overly impressed with the bourbon. I'd like to try some of there other stuff though. Thanks for checking out the review
"Underwhelming" is the right word for Jefferson's Reserve. "Meh," is another and I think it's overpriced as well. This is one I hit once and forgot all about it.
The Malted Man Cave thanks Keith, no I haven't had any of those yet but I'm not in any hurry either. Kind of want to try some others just to see the profile of them. Charts man!
foodquig ththe thanks Quig, appreciate it, I too am looking forward to it as I want overly crazy about this one. Cheers and I'm about to watch your 40year video, looking forward to that.
Excellent review as always. From what I have read, the mashbill is 60/30/10 and it has Bourbon's up to 20 years in it. I have a feeling the 20 year Bourbon percentage is low. I have had a couple bottles of this one, easy to drink but nothing special. The price in Ontario when it is in stock is all over the place and atrociously high priced. Unfortunately any Bourbon perceived to be hard to get in Ontario will fly off the shelves in minutes no matter how stupid the price is. Used to be a 15 year age statement back in the day, but those days are gone.
peter white thanks Peter, yeah I agree it's not bad but this price point there would be several others I'd go to. Thanks for the mash bill info, yeah I'd agree if there is 20 year bourbon in there I'd guess it's a small amount also. Cheers

Enjoying some now. I'm new to whisky so I find this a very nice step up from Makers mark. Looking forward to tasting better but this reserve is tasty.
Awesome, hope you enjoy your bourbon journey! If you ever have any questions, please reach out to me! Cheers 🥃

Was a great party favor to bring to a friend's house, 20 yo Whiskey, goes great before or after some smoked salmon. Very rich
That mic picks up too much... hear every single movement in your mouth mouth/throat..😟
Things have changed!
Good review! I agree with you on being underwhelmed. when I pay 50 or more I expect it to blow me away and make me want to buy it again.

Gary's Whisky Reviews Hey Gary, thanksfor checking out my review. I'm glad you enjoyed it and it sounded like something you'd enjoy, cheers
Nice review Scott! I'm with you on Jeffersons being underwhelming. I think they are a bit overpriced generally too.
I bought my bottle from Total Wine. It was different from your bottle, it was very nice. I didn't get much rye, easy drinking.
Hey Dan thanks for checking out the review, yes it's an easy drinking bourbon, my bottle was a store pick by Total Wine. Cheers buddy!
@@mybourbonjourney My bottle was the regular one, not a store pick. $52 in New Jersey. Cheers
Great review Scott, I haven't tried this but will keep an eye out for some Small Batch Jeffersons when I visit the states later in the year.
Hey Jason, thank you. If you can find there Jefferson's Ocean line you may want to try that out. They have some other finished lines as well. Cheers!
