  • Caught a few tidbits of the ride back. Enjoyed the superb job our engineer did on this round trip. Very pleasant individual. FYI, the abandoned station you see after Wayne Junction heading to Chestnut Hill was Fishers. It was abandoned in 1992.

Thanks for the upload, I really miss seeing the old stations. In the late 70s and early 80s I use to get on and off the old stations like fishers, but my favorite stations were Tabor and Logan. I lived and grew up in Logan in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s. I really miss the Bethlehem branch, with all the freight action, like coal, iron ore, and tofc trains. OH Bethlehem branch in Logan, also had local way freights, and even some general merchandise freight trains.

Remember riding these trains back in the mid-80's as a teen, the scenery looks way different now! Lot of the old rundown industrial buildings are gone. I used to think they looked pretty cool. Thanks for taking us along!

Temple University - along with Penn and Villanova, one of the original Philadelphia Big Five. (Because they are the Owls, I associate them with Hedwig (of Harry Potter fame); it doesn't hurt that the Temple Owl mascot is white in color.) Like Penn, Temple's primary *thing* is medicine. (Full disclosure - my oncologist is a Temple alumnus.)

By the time you reach the northern terminus, you’ve gained enough elevation to be in a slightly different climate- about double the snowfall per winter on average than downtown. Will see what’s on the docket for this year tho, so far minimal or zero accumulation at the start of the end of Dec.

Sometimes I wonder if Septa benefit from Chestnut hit lines into light rail and deliver higher frequency. Though I problem with that is the Chestnut hill East line you end up at Wayne Junction so you still have a decent frequency in trains. For the Chestnut hill West line you end up at North Broad and connect with The Trenton or the BSL but that's some walking to connect.

The reason why the trains on this line - SEPTA's Chestnut Hill East Line - move slowly is not because the line is uphill or because of all the curves in the track - it's because the stations are so close together. (With less than half a mile between most of the stations.)
I have never traveled on any other commuter train line with stations that are so close together.
But over on the Chestnut Hill West line, the stations are spaced further apart - so those trains go faster.
