    The brand new backyard trails are back, despite the delay we have been working hard with some epic trail building, build lapses and mega updates to the dirt jumps which are now part of my home farm!! This has been a slow but super cool project to build MTB trails that are big enough for proper Slopestyle tricks but still feel exactly like how MTB or BMX trails are supposed to feel. Enjoy the building and riding. What should we create next?

      We've seen so many shark fins already! What about a stepdown or drop and immediately a berm, so you have to prepare for the turn in mid air. I call it the reversed shark fin.

    • @juanitoxin
      @juanitoxin 10 місяців тому +2

      You're correct, it's mostly clay, it would never drain especially with the rainy UK weather. I'd much rather they work on making this line look nice and have some side features (hips/berms) rather than to waste time on making a dirt bowl. There's a reason why there are so few of those out there.

  • @trailjockeytj6160
    @trailjockeytj6160 10 місяців тому +7

    You need less moisture when building, rammed earth buildings require 6% water for compaction. When the moisture leaves, it allows the clay to shrink thus giving you cracks less moisture less cracks. The big key is the compaction. You need to get a jumping jack compactor that will hammer it down so tight that your cracks will be a thing of the past. Although you do need to compact and lifts no more than 2 to 3 inches to make sure you have compaction all the way through. But it’s good to see you have another video. I just watched your brothers video and someone commented that we were missing yours. And I guess I was! Thanks for the great content. Hey, where is Ben?

    • @jammin_5619
      @jammin_5619 10 місяців тому

      I was wondering if using some of the new browner dirt , would adding a bit to the sides ( like 2 feet at the bottom to buttress ) , and planting grasses and let the roots do the job ? 🤔

    • @trailjockeytj6160
      @trailjockeytj6160 10 місяців тому

      @@jammin_5619 roots will hold it together, but will not harden! They will just soften by breaking up the soil with the roots! So truly, you want dirt that has no seeds, or it will start sprouting and ruin all your work. Parts of the great wall of China are made from rammed earth, And all soil that was used had to be sourced at least 4 inches beneath the surface. Just FYI.

    • @spainobmxer69
      @spainobmxer69 10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah they’re using way too much water building these, also they need abit of compaction whilst building, instead of piling and shaping, that’s why the landing collapsed as it was a compact slab on top of slop

    For the next part you should build a big whale tail but you have a hip aswel that's landing goes through the gap of the whale tail and then you can further carry on by jumping over the fence. Also after the whale tail do a shark fin at the end and then eventually link the two lines togeather.

    One thing that helps with cracks is sandbags, fill them with dirt, stacks them then build on them, clay sinks and shrinks which then cracks the sand bags help stop that and also hold the moisture in. Build a split line, so you can hip into the feild but also go straight on then join the 2 further along

    Good to see you posting again, apologies in advance for my boring comment (I’m a civil engineer). You need to make the sides of the jumps grade to the ground gradually, earth has a natural angle of repose which it will return to unless you support it, it can’t support itself vertically (which is why we use retaining walls). You need to make the sides of the jumps 1 in 2 ideally, so for every 1m you go up you need to come out 2m. So for a 2m high jump the base at the sides would extend 4m out.
    Someone below made a good comment about moisture content and also compacting. Compacting should be done in maximum 200mm layers.
    I know this sounds like a lot of extra soil and work, but vertical soil will only last so long before it collapses back to its natural angle.

  • @49designss

    That long and low looks prime for a over under. Put a berm to the right of the lip. Cross through the gap and then have a lip facing the fence to jump over the fence in a right hip. Then you could have a second line running parallel on the other side of the fence. Would be insane riding with multiple people.

    Hey Matt at 13.37 when you where stand with Ben talking over the fence after your graceful slide off the racer take off !!!! 🤣😂😅
    You need to build an epic viewing tower!!! Great spot for Ben to film , and if you actually put a handrail on it would be a cool sun deck for you and the family 😎👍
    Plus you could have a staircase up one side and a start ramp for a cool little pump track for fun 😉

    So good to have you back Matt. You should build a big roller after the racer that is cambered on the left but normal in the middle/right. the left line could then jump over the fence, and the straight line could continue

  • @phoenixGrassl
    @phoenixGrassl 10 місяців тому +1

    Hey Matt I think the next jump should be a big straight jump over the end fence that would lead into a huge slopestyle jump maybe like the hardline one with the metel lip

  • @duncanallison6121
    @duncanallison6121 10 місяців тому

    I’d like to see a roller into a dirt take off with a stepped up wooden platform that then steps down off (on and off) into a vertical berm left.
    You’d be able to make the dirt take off hip left into the field aswell as the step down from the wooden feature step down left into the field so two landings next to each other in the field on the left allowing 3 lines to chose from within that feature, you’d then have 3 lines left fairly parallel to each other allowing you to go nuts with transfer lines etc.

    i dont know so much about clay and the different kinds of it, but there is clay and certain treatment which makes the clay more or less waterproof. they use this in interior design. i would recommend just use water and claydust to make a kind of cement and when the kickers are wet you have to rub and polish and just get muddy as hell :D

  • @kainlangley6151
    @kainlangley6151 10 місяців тому

    I work in mud.. you should sweep postcrete into the cracks, then spray it down with the hose, it goes off really quick so would still be rideable the day you do it. It’s very fine so will get deep into all the cracks and take your wrist of when you do the knock test.

    Hear me out. You have 4 options after the racer. The roller, obviously the best choice the maximize the speed for the next feature.
    Going straight following the main line, you could go for a deep step-up. Great for those huge tricks with that massive speed.
    The field is definitely wide enough for 2 lines, so maybe a shark fin after the roller to "switch lanes".. Reminiscence of the first backyard trail with the alley-oop spine feature in the middle of the line.. :D
    With enough time, and man power.. and dirt... A steep left turn berm, with any kind of jump (considering all of the space available, it looks kinda tight though..) over the fence into the 2nd field...
    The options are literally endless after what you guys have all ready built, big props on that! 👏 That Nuga dirt looked like it would make great dust (after a day or two drying in the sun) to fill in the cracks on the other jumps...

    Matt so happy that you’re uploading again
    Next I think you should build a wooden wale tale to a fast berm through the corner at the bottom

    Gotta hip left over the fence and go straight. Send a line back up toward the roll in that loops back around and links back into the straight line.

    PARALLEL CROSSOVER LINES!!! Put a transfer over the fence as 4th like you suggested but make it so that its also a straight double to continue the mainline, then another transfer as the 5th on the mainline so that you can run 2x parallel lines in the next field. even cross them over!!!! Would have the speed for a transfer to wall ride on the 5th one too....

    Yo matt, sick video, great to see you all back. My first idea that popped into my head was a bit slopestyle but a on off box with dirt landing into a hip left over fence 🤙🤙🤙

    After the long and low make a fat 90 degree berm into somthing that can jump over the fence. Would look sick

    Should build a hip over the fence and then a gap over the quarry and keep it filled with water and add sprinkler under it to keep cool Wells hitting the jumps

    Ironically I was just thinking about the fact that I hadn't seen a Matt Jones vid in quite sometime and magically this pops up. Great work on the jumps.

    Keep it straight Matt! Looks so fun that way. Easier to trick and chill.
