      Silver Cymbal Hey I built something like similar that out of an old fridge metal shelf and an old rake handle. But I also built a trammel to sift the earth or the sand from the beach I sometime use for divers. Thanks for the video

      I like this idea better than renting a roller to level out the yard! It doesn't take up alot of time. It's not noisy either if you have a few spots to fill in on a work night. Plus it doesn't take up alot of storage space either.

    I mix 1/3 top soil 1/3 multch or peat moss and 1/3 aged alder sawdust. Works good on coastal climate that has high sand content. Of course trace minerals and lime to balance ph to absorb nutrients. In climate 100"-140" rain per year and costal micro climate. Local plants help. A local nursery of trees helps as well.

    Love the rake, I have a small yard 63x30 to level, just removed extra dirt with a crew and bobcat yesterday and today, half the yard was leveled but the bobcat left the ground uneven, the crew says they can level it but I like this tool and saved it in my amazon list just in case they do not do good job i would buy it and do it myself, we need to level the ground, treat for weed, put some weed protection sheets along then instead of sod i would get those green rugs from Loves to cover the majority of it, the idea is to create a level space enough to build a shed in one side then we have an above ground pool of 32x16 to set up; the half that was leveled previously we had a 16x16 round pool before when the kids were younger; now they are teens but want the pool back; kudos to your helper there; she is adorable, enjoy her because they grow fast and one day you wonder where the time went! Cheers from Las Vegas!

    Great vid. I am up to a 40.000 sqft yard at the moment using this tool. One tip … you better sift the soil first. I just bought a 1/8 1/2 and a 1/4 screen for my bobcat sifter to do that.

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  5 років тому

      That is a great tip, and that's a lot of sq ft to do. You must have been very busy! It's harder and harder to get goo quality top soil here too.

    normally when you rake, everything (rocks, sharp sticks, etc.) get sunk into the dirt. This isn't the case with a tine rake, in fact they do a great job at pulling debris to the top so it can be picked out. I have a soil spreader and I love it, but I would reach for the tine rake all day to do this.

    Fighting myself like heck Not to buy this crazy expensive tool but....your success is very persuasive. Oh, I would have no problem spending that money on fishing gear! Priorities.
    Been looking at topsoil and it is disappointing to see that all bagged topsoil is shipped as “mud”, that is, 100% wet! That’s why a bag weighs 40 lbs. not cool.
    Love to see a Happy kid “working” with Dad.

      I hear you. Its a set of angle irons and if you can weld you will be able to make short work of one. No matter what you do, getting or making one of these is the best idea around!

      take a section of chain link fencing and drag it across the area to be leveled. that’s how we leveled our baseball field in high school.

    If I’m reviving an old dead lean should I level before or after I’ve brought it back to life

    This may be a dumb question, but do you put new seed on top of the dirt? Or just let the grass grow through it?

    I'd like to do this but in combination with scalping high areas.

    So, did you throw seed on top of the dirt? Do you have an updated shot of how it looks now? Thanks!

    In the Poconoes of N. E. PA when clearing my 100% wooded building lot by a not verry non professional, professional excavator that did my site work on my current home buried all the sumps ALL OVER MY FRONT LAWN for his convienance and profits. Now 15+ years later green pot holes always developing and continually enlarging as the stumps slowly continue to decay under the lawn a little bit more each year. So learning about this tool will both greatly speed up my yearly chore of adding more soil to all my green pot holes and Do A Better Job................ Again, Big Thank You and Your Lovely Team for your efforts........

    I noticed you didn’t add a mix of sand and soil. I have a very deep divot probably caused by voles. Also I have many divots throughout my lawn. What kind of sand would you recommend? Ie: playground sand, paver base sand, etc. thanks for your help.
