These do not work on electric weed eaters. If someone says they do, don't believe them. I tried on black and decker and homelite brand and was disappointed. Save your money.
@@SilverCymbal The link in your discription and these comments is not for the universal version. It's for the version that only fits up to Echo trimmers. I ordered thinking it was universal and got the head only with no adapters.
I am a 80 yr old still doing my own yard work and loving it. Refilling trimmer line is a night mare, but your video explained it so well that off i go to Home Depot to get a speed feeder for my electric weed eatter. You are a doll for doing this video.
I agree with her - except he's "dude" ... 😃😃😎😎
I bought my first one at Home Depot or Lowe's years ago, maybe 15. I asked the repair shop about them and they suggested not getting one, a couple of years later they were selling them too. Saved the adapter kit and have used this head on Stihl, Echo, Tanaka, and others. The machine wears out but the head hasn't. Probably the best aftermarket product I have ever purchased. Thank you.
1 o ' clock in the morning in Australia and I am watching this ! Great stuff !
I am new first time home owner. Your Channel is a god send. I have used my dad and your videos for alot of help. My wife and friends are surprised by how much I know. Truth is...... I use your videos as a life guide and some day show my son the ancient way of the suburban man. Thanks for everything you do. You have helped alot of people out more than you know.
AMEN MY FRIEND !
The "SPEEDFEED" was originally sold by Shindaiwa !
Which has now merged with ECHO !
I have been a dealer for over Sixteen years !!!
Wish I had thought of this gem myself !
Extremely user friendly !
No need to ever take the head apart NEVER AGAIN !
You have the universal adapter version !
It as you have correctly advised, fits nearly every major brand !
THE SPEEDFEED IS EVERYTHING YOU SAID AND MORE !
does "nearly every major brand" include battery operated models. My B&D has a single cutter line. Can it run a dual line head like this?
@@EveryMan333
It will create greater resistance on your unit.
I don't think it would be an issue for it, but I would hate to tell you wrong.
Otherwise, the
Speed Feed Universal system will have all the necessary adapters for you to use it on your unit !
@@quadsman11 thanks, man. I wonder if it will deplete the battery in half the time. in the name of Science I have to try this don't I...
@@EveryMan333
Well,
wasn't going to say that,
but if you are willing . . .
I highly doubt you are going to deplete by half though.
"Curiosity killed the cat" and I am definitely curious !
If you do it, please let me know !
I could kiss you for making this video!!!!!!!!! Man the number of choice expletives I've let out over the years, the number of battles I've lost with many a strimmer. Just what I need. Thanks a ton!
Hope you are cute! Glad it helped!
I have this mechanism on my craftsman trimmer natively. It's the first one I ever bought and haven't needed a new one in 10 years. I always thought this was the standard on all trimmers and never gave it another thought.
Yeah all the decent high end/commercial grade trimmers have been using these heads for years. The cool innovation of recent times is the electric auto rewind heads, they make it absurdly easy
I found a head like this accidentally at a farm supply store when looking for a replacement head for my trimmer so I could loan it to my grandson to mow and trim lawns. I have it back now and love it.
Your style of sharing information is very fluid, easy to follow and comprehensive. Didn't realize trimmer had a cut off point.
And slow AF 😂
I have been working for a small professional lawn care CO.for 3 years now and all 6 of our trimmers have that head on them. The best IMO and also the best at flat trimming.I can match the hight of the mowers perfect as if the mowers had cut all the way to the homes and such
Right on
Is it still working good after a year?
@@waskele.wabbit717 yes sir only had to change the cap once so far
Speed Heads have been helping keep yards mowed and houses painted cheaply for decades.
Heart of a teacher right there! ... :)
This video has inspired me to begin edging once again. I have had the old type and it has been the MOST frustrating thing I have EVER had to deal with. I just purchased my head at Home Depot and will be giving it my first try tomorrow...I am hoping and praying my nightmare has come to an end!! Thank you so much for this video, it made me laugh at your comments and gives me hope to be able to trim the edges of my yard!!! Thank you so much!!
you must have voted for biden.
@@user-io4jl4jx9q Let’s go Brandon.
This seems like a really good idea, for people who do landscaping for a living, and have to reload relatively often(compared to normal maintenance, where you might reload every few months, for your average homeowner)
That's me - all the commercial grade string trimmers have had line heads like this for years, it's only the low end domestic trimmers that have the crappy ones you need to take apart.
The real innovation of the last few years is the auto wind heads on some electric commercial trimmers. You just push the line through the holes until equal amount on both ends, press the button, and the machine winds it all in for you.
This is great for commerical use, because while manual wind heads work well at first... after a year or two of heavy use, all the plant gunk makes them hard to turn. Spraying them with resin solvent helps though.
Great video! Bonus points for doing an edging job at the end that doesn't need done lol.
Ever since you showed me this 2 years ago I've never looked back. It changed the game
Judging by the comments, many know about this type of attachment but most of us didn't. Thanks for the tip and nice edging! I assume it's bump feed also? Nice vid and God bless! 😁
Thank you very much, yes it is a bump feed and has a nice design without the button so that means you can tap it anywhere on the bottom and it will feed nicely. Thanks for the watching,

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much. I was very frustrated today trying to replace the string on my trimmer and thought to myself that there has to be a better way. I had a feeling there was a solution out there, however, I went to the hardware this afternoon and asked if there was a solution to this messy process, but they had nothing. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I have to add to what a lot of people said. You made my life more enjoyable, with the way you explained in detail. I actually don't mind trimming the lawn now. Thank you.
Watched your video thanks so much. I am a 73 year old female and I am weedwacker challenged. Thanks so much I feel confident that I can replace the string on my weedwacker. Susan Lander, Mercer, Pa
Love the speed feed, when it’s on the trimmer, and I’m reloading, I put my left thumb and middle finger on the two holes and wind the backing plate with my right hand, it keeps a little tension on the string for the first three or four winds, if you do right you don’t get any tangles
Ya, I bet you put that left thumb and middle finger OTHER place too !!
oh please say that again..you know a picture speaks a thousand words.
I've been landscaping for 15 years and I love winding string on a head. My favorite are the Redmax heads, very easy to use.
It gives you a break from the work when you stop to wind it on :)
There you go again, making our lives a little easier. Thank you.
Great demonstration, you did this slow enough for me to follow what you are doing, thank you.
Usually these things are a blur. I always dread putting new string on . I am ordering now, I have the exact
Machine you are using and it is the best one I have owned in 30 years.
I just bought a brand new Makita string trimmer that came standard with a head that works just like this. Best head I've ever used.
I never used any Makita cordless products and have been thrilled far beyond my expectations with this one. I have added some other tools as my budget allows that you will see in future videos too. Very nice stuff they make.
Which model Makita trimmer did you buy? Don't they only have 1 head. Got one and install instructions are lacking and original head spins off when engaged . Will try your allen wrench but only see as useful to remove and not secure head.
Best head you ever got??
I sub'd just for this video alone. I cannot express how much agony I've gone through stringing trimmers over and over. Great advice!
Large majority are made this way today. But they are so handy and save time. The best ones are the weed eaters that can change the pole with different attachments . I have weed eater ,edger , blower , chain saw , snow blower and a small tiller that attaches right to the weed eater . I love it. The plastic brush cutter blades suck get the metal ones they last for years even cut small trees or saplings down .
My friend Cody, when we were kids, called it a "weed whipper", I liked that so I have been saying "weed whipper" for 25 years.
This is awesome. Totally going to get me one. Thank you sooo much for making life easier!!!! Thanks for being amazing!!
Thank you very much after you start using it you will be even happier, It's a really nice thing. Thanks for watching,
Try this method before you run out and buy this.
I have one of those and I've had it for about 3 years absolutely recommended
Oops
I pre-cut several lenghts of string to the correct size, roll up the strings individually & secure them with twisty ties, keep them in my truck door, every time I start my day of lawn cutting I grab one, put it in my pocket as an extra bc you know you'll be the farthest away from your truck when the head runs out of string!! I pull out the extra string from my pocket, reload & go!!
Thx for making this video. You did an Awesome job on your edging!
I picked up an Ego line trimmer and its the best thing ever. The chain saw rocks as well. The trimmer feed’s itself and sooo easy to refill new line just as you are showing here.
my ryobi that I bought 9 years ago re strings like that. It has been a heck of a trimmer and still runs great.
Yep. I was gonna say the same thing. Too bad I sold it when we moved :(
Same! Ryobi branded equipment is great!
Hey Brandon, Which Ryobi model is it? Thanks.
Romin Hawk I have the Expand-it weed eater by Ryobi. Does the same thing. Also have the blower attachment. Both work great!
Same but I got mine not too long ago, you even have the same name as me.
I bought an electric trimmer several years ago. This trimmer comes with this trimmer head. Best and easiest trimmer to reload trimmer line I have ever had.
I got the DeWalt version of this and absolutely love it!!! When tapped to feed the line it feed just a few inches a tap and no water line to cut off from over feeding. 3 taps is a full feed. I’ve never had to have it cut off any line yet. Well worth the cost and very fast to load 30’ of line.
I have 3 large string trimmers and 2 of them have this system, it appears mine were made by a different manufacturer than the one shown here, but work the exact same way, push the line through and wind up, this works extremely well for me, never binds up like the one I have with the ordinary string reloading method.
if it looks the same as the one shown in the vid but not the same brand its more than likely a shindaiwah which is a parent company of Echo
Bought the GroundsKeeper rake, and now this! Thanks
Both really great buys for the buck. Thanks
I was soooo sick of fighting the string. I just gave in and bought several factory ones. Spending way more but it stopped the headache. This thing is genius. Getting one today...
I have a Flymo contour 500 and I was doing my daughters garden, and I was stopping every few minutes to pull the cable out, the air was starting to turn blue, finding this I will be placing an order through Amazon.
Thank god for UA-cam and people like yourself informing us.
Your videos are always so informative and helpful. I have the same system and love it! Thank you!
You just showed up randomly and my recommendations. You did a great job of explaining. It was really easy to understand and I feel Fearless to attack my weed wacker!
Thank you very much for the nice comment and good luck with your weed wacking!
My ego lawn mower does it like this. Except i only push a button to wind it up electronically
Bought a Lowe’s Kobalt electric a few years back. It’s a Torque Monster. Eats small trees. Came with this system and I love it . Thanks for the flashlite trick .
Pro tip, all echos come with those, and echo is a great brand to use commercially given they are gas powered. Your suggestion is good for those who’d like to keep their electric whip
And for feeding those things, pull out 2 full arm lengths off the spool, cut it right there, whistle it through the head, pull both ends out so they are tight and same length, wrap er up!
Yeah, I hate trimmers because of the string. This adapter will make my life so much easier! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
It's really awesome, you will love it
It's STHIL ! A STRING ! TRIMMER !!
Great idea and great job in the presentation, you were very clear and easy to follow. Thank you. These string trimmers have been a nightmare for years!!!! 💖👍🙋♂️
Thank you very much. This is one of my favorites
I have the Toro electric trimmer that uses the same kind of line feeding system. Love it and will never go back to the old type. Great break down!
Slow hand clap for the guys who invented this! GENIUS. This is the most annoying thing with doing yardwork is stopping especially when the line doesn’t feed through after breaking off and you’ve got to take it apart and waste five minutes each time pulling the cord out and putting the head back on.
I haven't got time for a slow hand clap. So I just slapped my neighbours bald head. Will that do.
say no more!! 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽 I am dancing with joy!
this is the first time i've ever seen or heard of this.. cue the clouds to part and the angels to sing.
I couldn't agree more, I do plenty of DIY but stringing line the old way is just bad news. Glad you liked it.
@@SilverCymbal by the time I watch the clouds part and angles sing I could restring another weed trimmer the old school way. Bunch of sissy babies!!!!!!!!
Scott Chapman sounds like an ol' dog that refuse to learn a new trick. Speed feed heads are the bomb, they are professional & quick to load without issue. Mine auto feeds amazingly and rarely requires a bump for more line. Angels sing to the lawn God's - may the clouds part for all exception to Scott C.

These are the bomb. I saw a guy that had his apart trying to restring it.

He was so grateful.
Just came across your video. I replaced the head on one of my string trimmers with this type head a while ago. Love it! My other one came with a similar head from the factory.
Now for the real reason I’m commenting. Operating a string trimmer wearing shorts and sandals isn’t the best idea. I’ve seen several injuries from these units that would have been avoided if the operator had been wearing jeans and shoes. Yeah, it’s uncomfortable in the warm weather! But not nearly as uncomfortable as losing a toe or two or a nasty gouge in your leg. BE SAFE!
Love the Echo speed feed. Been using them for years. It’s the best head for a trimmer. Nothing close.
Absolutely these are so great! amzn.to/2XmgiJ9
Echo head, but not Echo trimmers haha.
Ryobi have had a spool like this for at least 12 years. Nothing new here in the uk, definitely a better system then the old way
Jonny Be good Ryobi is what I use
Exactly. I thought I was going to see a new revolutionary system. Back to my Ryobi.
I've been using weed eater feeds like that one for years for commercial properties. This is by far the best kind of weed eater attachment to have. I stretch out 3 fully stretched arm lenghths of string and it takes every bit of it. Hopefully it lasts. In a month I tend to put in about 10-20 hours weed eating so hopefully its good quality.
I have the EXACT same Makita trimmer as you and came across your video by chance when I wasn't even looking up such topic! Your EXCELLENT video demo of how the SpeedFeed works from start to finish was so awesome that I ended up ordering 2 for my 2 trimmers and man has it greatly improved my weed whacking experience!!! Was able to load and perform exactly as you demoed and I can't THANK YOU enough!!!!
same here. ive been googling and came across is as well. i need to upgrade my guard though too🤣
It's 2020 and you just made my summer. I hate weed trimmers and the tangled line messes. Thank you.
Milwaukee trimmer has this head from factory it came on my trimmer
My TroyBilt trimer has this head as standard equipment, it works great.
The Husqvarna bump feed head with the big blue button rocks! Easy to load and works like a charm. Try it out
I watched a recent video of yours and wondered how you changed out the string so fast. I thought you did a jump cut. Now I know what I need to get.
I've been using it for years now. One thing I love is that when you're running out of line or want new line to cut better, you just have to pull the trigger and tap the head on the grass and it automatically feeds out new line! No more stopping it to twist and pull.
What kind of weed whacker did you have before where you had to stop and pull? The weed wackers I've owned for decades did the tap and let out string without this attachment
@@peteradams7457 the one that you had to add two identical strings and feed it through. Sometimes one would fly out and I'd have to stop it and add new ones.
I have been using the speed feed heads for years ... they work great
I was hyped thinking they came out with something better...same here though I like them
Hey everyone, it's PPC!!!! Hi Paul!
Are these Bump Feed too?
Pattay's Performance yep
@@pattayperformance yes the only bad part is the covers seem to wear fast if you bump them on concrete...I can make them last two years my guys that work for me go through 1 or 2 a year. The whole thing is like 25 and the covers are like 12
Excellent. I finally learnt & found someone that explain it in a way that made it logical to me. Very grateful for your kind & simple explanation!
Stihl has those heads stock, works like a dream.
Are you kidding me? I have probably loaded my weed String trimmer 50 times in the last 5 years. I had no idea. Thank you so much!
You will love this thing - amzn.to/2XmgiJ9
I literally just bought a brand new Echo this week. It has this trimmer head. I have not used it yet. I plan to tomorrow. Thank you for the tutorial!
Very cool, you will love having that.
My ECCO weed eater already comes with a head like this and I love it! My old weed eater was awful to load string.
I have this and it’s fantastic. I “tie” two 2-ounce fishing sinkers to each end in order to keep the string straight and extended.
I needed that 10 years ago and.NOW, thanks did. 💋
Thats the one that came with my echo trimmer. Its awesome and so easy.
How does more string come out? It automatic?
I have never been able to restring my trimmers with much success. I have even gone out and got new trimmers to try and find a head like this one. Thanks for the heads up on this.
winding a head is easy but please make my life easier because I'm a big baby and need everything done for me !!
Thank you so much for showing me how to take off the head and add the attachment.

I just watched this and it may have just saved me lot's of headaches...lol thanks for the link I hope its still available 3 years later and mad in the usa.😊
For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
Oh my goodness you're a life saver with this video!! I was livid with replacing the string. I must get one of those!! Thank you
My trimmer came with a head like that. I’ve had it for about 6 years now. If buying a new trimmer check and see but I think a lot of the new ones have that type of head on them. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for all the information you put out there.
Thank you very much for the very nice comment and watching my stuff. I really appreciate that.
I'm happy to come across your channel. Didn't know about this design. I can see why you love it, and I can't wait to get one!

The replacement bump heads average around 7 bucks at any mower store too. This is the head of professionals everywhere.
OMG! One of the best ‘how-to’ videos I’ve ever seen. Thrilled that I got lucky and chose it because my life just got easier! Thank you, thank you, thank you
Pretty good line you're cutting on that bed. You've got some experience and a steady hand.
I appreciate that. I am always trying and practice helps but there are plenty of pros that put me to shame. Watch for some new videos on this topics coming soon soon.
I have had one of these for 5 years. Easy and fast and never fails.
That's very great, when I watch you using that Trimmer you are an expert, Here in the Philippines sir we will not use that Trimmer head because we will cut the grass very low,
Drives me crazy how short your string is but I can’t argue with good results. Nice job!
I think you know it wasn't left short... that was only during install.
when you wind your string you never get short/long sides??
I have the Ryobi speed winder, it's amazing and so easy
THANK You so much I have three new never used stringers because I couldn't get them on. You have solved my problem love you love you love you.
I just recently upgraded to an Echo SRM-225 trimmer and I can confirm that the Speed Feed head is the BEST, and quickest reloadable trimmer head I've ever used. Had I known these existed back when I first started my lawn business in 2014 I would have never went thru 3 tap feed heads with my old Husqvarna 128LD.
The next level up is the electric auto rewind ones, you push line through the holes until equal amount both ends, press the button, the machine winds it all in for you. Takes seconds.
I love these Fast Feed Trimmer Heads..I can never see myself going back to the old Stringer Heads Again. Thanks for the Video!
Right on time, my family just got a weed whacker for the back yard.time to grab this bad boy up.i hate dealing with the wire popping back up and unraveling.
Thank you, you will love this thing It completely eliminates that issue and wasting 10 minutes fumbling with a dirty trimmer head that doesn't want to come apart every time too
Silver Cymbal yup, it pays for itself.
Look at me mama I just discovered speedfeed head and I act like it's the best thing since sliced bread.....never mind the fact that is on the market for years
Nothing wrong with falling in love for a second time
It's almost like you can't understand how everyone doesn't already know everything there is to know...
most string trimmers ive had have had a hybrid between the two, you pull the head apart, run the line through near the ceant, put the lines through the guides, put the head together, and ratchet the head on to restring the trimmer
Thanks for this information. Now if I could just get my lawn and edging as beautiful as yours.
You can do it. Look at what I started with: ua-cam.com/video/c54WSOI-MMc/v-deo.html
How do you advance the line when it breaks ?
And if the line breaks just inside the one of the holes on the head how do you get the line back out side ?
Any answers yet after 2 yrs ?
exactly what I wonder

When I bought two of these I didn’t pay attention and then I remembered how to push the string through the too wholes turn the spindle and it’s so fast I love it I am old fashioned manual string guy now I changed
