- As a new project i want to cnc machine a old Zundapp engine block which no longer be made. To complete the engine block there will be a total of 35kg of aluminium.
The video is made from small clips recorded with my phone. in this video you can hear the actual cutting on my epoxy granite cnc mill with actual machining speeds. -
You have build Such a beautiful machine!!!
Congratulation for it!
Every time it is a highlight to see it cutting through the material.
greetings, Sebastian
Stef you did a great job.
You must happy to see an end result after all the work of designing the part.
You have really made a piece of art
Stef, nice to see the maschine working in real time.. :) Sounds pretty nice - I like it! Dig in, Jannik
Thanks for the new video!!!
That sounds so nice, no ringing what so ever! our haas rings more than this machine lol
Exactly. That epoxy granite is working like a charm.
This man is legend.
Yes indeed.
Hey super Maschine!! Kannst du auch stahl fräsen?
Vakwerk... erg mooi om te zien.
Now I see why there was no any new uploads recently... This is getting serious!!
Truly Stef, you did such an incredible job with this machine!!
Definitely one of my favourite subscriptions for which I always check if there is a red dot 🔴 on it, eventho I got a “bell” on it 😅 I know how time consuming all that video work is & especially pushing all the work through as well but still, I wish for more uploads 😁 Tell us Stef, can we expect cutting any steel soon?? Maybe just one tiny sample piece? 😁 Congrats once again & best regards from Slovenia! 🙋🏻♂️
Why don´t you upload the full video ? It´s great !
Good job
Nice job , what kind of Pneumatic counter weight are you using ? can you share a link or make a video about it ?
thanks
very nice
Hi Stef,
can you share your thought about machining steel part on your epoxy granite CNC. Will you later show cutting steel with it?
It makes chips just like a bought one! :)
Oh, great man, how much precision the machined parts can get to?
CLEAN
look at those chips fly! 😁
The body construction epoxy granite are so thick. Is it possible to save some material by using some inserting steel rods inside?
i know zundapp those are old!! very old.. how do you managed to get the 3d files of the engine? if you have draw them i am curious to know how long took it to draw this engine half? its crazyy in my eyes but maybe its not? love to hear your answer..
Goed bezig!! Always nice to see the progress on this. It looks fantastic and seems to do the job very well! Is there a reason you decided to use a Windows solution for the controller and not LinuxCNC?
I know edgingcnc from my previous machine. Im very familiar with it so that's why i choose it. Never had any issue with it.
@@Svanitterzon but how did you get the part in solidworks or fusion360??
3d scaning does not get you an accurate part right??
I want one 😍
Great! I wish I can take on something similar for my old engine as well, sometime in the future.
What grade aluminium do you use?
I have good access to 7075, but not totally convinced that is the best for engine casings. Most probably do the job excellent though. But... 🤔
andli461 why wouldn’t 7075 work well? It has higher strength than say 5056 and is not as corrosion sensitive as 2024. For fatigue critical applications 2024 can make sense but for general use a 7000 series alloy works great. 7050 should behave similarly to 7075 but is available in thicker billets.
Steven Doesburg That was kind of the reasoning I was looking for. 👍 And as I said, it would most probably be fine. But “the best” (read: most suited) for a case I just don’t know.
One thing that came to mind regarding 70xx was stress corrosion cracking. The things I design normally have a very short lifespan and extreme environment...so this is something different and new to me.
Furthermore I know that for example head inserts for 2t engines made out of 7000-alu is very pron to crack. Much higher temp etc, but that was a total eye opener.
Looking forward to learn something new here. 👍
Hi, could I know if the project of your cnc milling machine is for sale? I'd like to build it for myself, I'm not going to sell and speculate. Thanks and good job.
Hi how long does it takes to mill those gigantinc piece of aluminum?
👍👍👍super!!!
Nice, followed here from the build thread. What cooling / misting are you using when machining Alu?
www.sorotec.de/shop/MIKROMAX-Minimalmengenschmierung-MDE-4994.html this mister systen with fenella 201n.
@@Svanitterzon Thanks. So like a fogbuster ..... (but not).
I made my own and been using bioethanol but its not reliable (and of course flamable). Something like the Datron machine setup but too crude to work well.
what is the working field of the machine?
Leuk project!
Hei cool project! Where did you get the drawings from??
Made myself
Very nice project, i am also interested in building my own cnc. Do you think its possible to mill steel with your epoxy CNC?
Iam was already familiar to this controller from previous machines. So what's why i wanted to use it again im very happy with how it works and never have trouble with it.
@@Svanitterzon so its no problem to mill steel?
@@Thomseplay ooops i replied the wrong question. I already cutted some steel but it was without good cooland. The machine survived next time i gone cut steel i really want my flood cooland to work.
@@Svanitterzon nice, very interesting to see the next steps
Nice! Spend time for machining?
All Gcode combined give me just under 3 hours of machining.
What cnc controller are you using ? Mach 3 ?
Edgingcnc
Woooo *-*
Zou ze even bellen of mailen heel behulpzaam bedrijf.
@@Svanitterzon Heel hartelijk dank !.
Groetjes! [micheldeman@hetnet.nl]
Would you be so kind and tell us for which Zündapp this is?
It will be a 4 speed block, for a 517 zundapp.
@@Svanitterzon you were at Zündapp100 2018 in Sigmaringen?
You are definitely making a mess there. 😯
haha yes, i still need to finish my enclosure Xd
Whats your feeds and speeds?
Most cuts where 3000mm/min 1.5mm woc and 12mm doc 5400rpm with a 10mm endmill. The cuts with the long 10mm endmill where a little slower because of rigidity.
Nice work!
Would it be possible to get the CAD of the engine-housing from you? :)
Haha no it took me days to put everything in a model.
@@Svanitterzon
You could sell the CAD file ?
If someone wants it bad enough it would be worth a reasonable fee.
why no cooling?
floodcoolant wasn't working back then. Im machining a new engine block as we speak i recording bigger parts of that for a new youtube video. That one is cutted with floodcoolant.
Lol, you need a higher enclosure :')
