I just bought the Scala on sale from SCG. The grind consistency really won me over. I noticed the difference in the extraction right away from my other lower end grinders I had been using. I only do pour over so I do not need the larger range of the Baratza, and the Scala on sale was $60 cheaper.
I also only do V60 pour over drip coffee but may also start Aeropress and I was just wondering if you're typically at the coarsest setting as the grinds in the video just seem to be really fine. Or do you still have a little bit of play?
@@Evo_Spec Can't help you directly, but for machine drip (Moccamaster) I've come to use settings 10 and 11 mostly, which are right in the middle. I'd think you have enough options for a coarser grind with a pour over.
@@TigerDirectVaughan I don't do manual pour-over myself, but I guess somewhere around 12-14, just a bit coarser than with the machine. In the end it's about your own taste and also depends on your filter type and coffee beans.
This is the best and convincing review I ever come across. She tested all the four settings to confirm this is the versatile machine over the rest. Thank you very much.
Hey great comparison there. I just got the Solis ale works like a champ with my gaggia baby. The thing about static... Just use glass small mug. It eliminates 99% of the statics. Mu personal tip
I have only had the Baratza Encore for a few months but I absolutely love it so far. It is easy to use, set the grind size and very consistent. I have only used it for my daily pour over so I can't speak for its performance with making espresso. I have also have a Ceado 5p that is dedicated to making espresso so I may do a comparison with the Encore at some point. My prior grinder which I had for many years was the Capresso Infinity, which did a decent job, but overall I prefer the usability and performance of the Encore.
@@arthurokim2323 you can open it and change the screw inside to grind in the espresso range. You still might struggle between one step and the other since it isn't stepless
Ive used the capresso infinity, and now the encore...the encore catch bin is slightly messier than the infinity was. Both have similar static issues , build quality is similar but I think the the capresso is slightly quieter .. I only do pour overs so I really dont need a wide range of grinds, I may give the scala a try because the encore daily counter clean up is annoying
I own the Virtuoso instead. So I would recommend replacing the blades with those on the Virtuoso. I don't store my beans in the grinder, so I went with the "dose" hopper Holds about 55-60 grams). Other than that, you're set with a great grinder!
Tests of coffee grinders are quite superficial. Tests are done in a few minutes, do not show how the machine works when it has been in use for a while. One machine that gets good reviews is the Baratza Encore. It grinds just fine, but surprisingly rotates with the coffee, both in front of and behind the machine. After let's say 8-10 times it is also full of coffee inside that has not come out. If you knock out the residual coffee, you should have plenty of space, because here the coffee bounces out everywhere. The plastic cup, which is claimed to be antistatic, is probably not completely anistatic after all. If you are considering this coffee grinder, be prepared for a lot of coffee grains on the kitchen counter
They have a vid up on the Solis where it actually grinds, even if it doenst show much more. Plus, since they sell the things, they might not wish to show off what mess the Baratza might make. My little Braun grinder does't even get halfway the range these machines provide, the finest still being bit too coarse for drip machine. But its bin does have a lid :) As for cleaning, I always have a vacuum cleaner at hand, which sucks out the last bits really well. Lastly, it would be very nice if they actually _made_ coffee with the fresh ground. Oh well, not everybody can be a Hoffman
Have had the Bararza Encore for years now and still love it. Does the job pretty well for very heavy use
Same here. It's an absolute workhorse.
Have been using my Encore for about eighteen months. Great build quality and consistent results.

what setting do you use for pour over on the Scala?

Noise level please 😭 was tuning here for that reason actually
Why does it always feel like these videos refuse to say a cheaper grinder can grind decent espresso? They step all around it.

ive been looking to upgrade my infinity and wasnt sure if the encore was enough of a step up but you might have sold me...
i have heared that encore is proper for brewing coffee. no proper for espresso. how do u set grinding level of encore for pour over?
@@arthurokim2323 you can open it and change the screw inside to grind in the espresso range. You still might struggle between one step and the other since it isn't stepless
If you open and change internally you can get fine for espresso

Two different types of coffee beans to compare grind results??? How gauche!
What do you think of modding the baratza encore for espresso? maybe could do a video?

Which one would you recommend for Chemex?
what is regular espresso??
Great video thank you

Doesn’t Solis make the encore for baratza
Is it good for Pour Over V60? Scala?
